my 6 year old daughter broke down in tears when she first watched this performance about 15 years after we lost Stevie Ray. I had explained to her Stevie’s personal comeback, the tragic circumstances surrounding his passing and what a great Texas legend he is. Peace Love and Merry Christmas 🎁 from Texas. May Stevie RIP
The Stratocaster is a difficult instrument to master and to say that Stevie made it look easy would be an understatement. He touched countless lives with this song when it was recorded just as he still does today. No exaggeration here. The man had a gift that could be seen, heard and felt in the soul and he shared it with everyone. I've read stories about some very well respected musicians who appeared humble and kind until a story eventually emerged that showed their true colors and busted their perfect image wide open, but not SRV. He battled his demons like many great artists but never, not a single time, did I ever read or hear anything about him being a jerk or anything less than the humble, kind and giving person we saw on stage. He was genuine. You don't have to like his music but if you listen to this song and don't get where I'm coming from then I feel sorry for you because you're missing one of life's greatest gifts.
He played with telephone cables as strings - anywhere from .012 to .017 depending on his finger strength at the time. The old guitar playing adage that the heavier the strings, the bigger the sound was certainly true in his case
The only thing i disagree with is the stratocaster claim you made at the start. Give SRV a cigar box guitar and a slide and hell still rock better than most. Its about mastering the guitar in general, nothing to do with the model.
Guilherme Gonçalves interesting analogy. I started out with 10s on a strat while most people would start out on 9s and that made a lot of difference regarding my playing. I remember how painful bending was on those strings when I was starting to build callouses.
I still remember the very first time I saw this, stoned af looking for something to watch on tv & I come across this guy playing the fuck outta his guitar on PBS, I fell in love instantly!
There has been hundreds of ACL episodes at this point, and I haven't seen them all, so I can't say that for sure, but I can't really imagine many, if any, being better.
I send to this to my genius, handsome, scientist son, Mike who was so cool I’m flattered forever. I’ll never be as cool as him. You are incredibly missed. Tears I love you Mike up there in heaven hugging God! Mwah! Love, Mom love to Meg, Mikey, and Oliver!!
Every time I hear this song I think of the nights my wife and I spent laying out on our boat staring up at the night sky with Riviera Paradise playing in the background. We were experiencing absolute peace. Sadly she passed away in 2010, and this still brings me back to those days.
I was introduced to SRV by my son. I've been a fan of Jazz my entire life, but this man's talents just blew me away. This is perhaps, no definitely, the most beautiful song that I've ever heard. It encompasses every human emotion , love, heartbreak, hope. I hope that everyone can agree.
Word. I listen to Jazz more than anything and this is by far my favorite work of SRV. The feeling that is conveyed by the melodic composition is truly heavenly. He is a musical genius
Every...Single...Note... perfect... not one out of place, missed, muffed, or mis-struck... the same is true with every piece of music I've heard of his. Immeasurable Talent...
Even if he played a note that was "off" or unintended, it would be bent it to his will and it would sound as if it belonged, mortals would struggle to find flaws in his music. You can tell the heavy strings he uses in this footage and if you play get an idea of the intensity of playing ultra-bright 13's and shredding your fingers for art. I used 11's and complain after teaching lessons....

I was 6 years old and camping with my dad the first time I heard this song. It was a terrible storm that night and we were forced to spend the night in the car on an overlook. SRV Rivera Paradise then became my favorite song. I made him play it for ...2 hours straight, on a cassette tape mind you. I was sitting in a bar in Atlanta about 20 years ago and I heard this music and I was flabbergasted and I asked the bartender who this is? And he said this is Stevie Ray Vaughan into this day. This is the best eight minutes of music I’ve ever heard.
And I very seriously doubt that anyone will ever get remotely close to playing like he did. He felt everything he played. He played with such fervor, passion, soulfulness and effortless brute strength and never, ever seemed lost as to what he would play next. He was coming from someplace so deep and beautiful that there’s no one you can compare him to. God, I still miss him so very much. I will never get over his passing 😔

Been there. All this is is momentary and will pass. Don't give up.
hell yes, well said.
Jesus loves you... this much, I know
That man on keys has soul too.
He plays with Joe Bonamassa now, i watched him play just before a month here in Zürich. Outstanding!
I love that solo so much i feel like im cheating on stevie
@@aleksandarangelov6572 i got to see him with joe back in February
Reese Winans
He sure does but unfortunately he ain't got the feel like stevie does
my 6 year old daughter broke down in tears when she first watched this performance about 15 years after we lost Stevie Ray.
You need Rory Gallagher in your life...Jimi called him the best in the world for a reason. Master of the Stratocaster
@@netrioter Rorey was phenomenal. Another one gone too soon.
The playing and mix on this masterpiece is beyond flawless, it is other worldly.
The greatest Austin City Limits episode ever shown.
Michael Price. I agree. At least the best I have seen.
The one with Eric Johnson was close.....just close.
I love this from PBS --- Austin City Limits!!! Hope they don't take away PBS!!!! I TRULY MISS MR. STEVIE RAY💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 RIP
srv definitely pioneered a new way of playing
I send to this to my genius, handsome, scientist son, Mike who was so cool I’m flattered forever. I’ll never be as cool as him. You are incredibly missed. Tears I love you Mike up there in heaven hugging God! Mwah! Love, Mom love to Meg, Mikey, and Oliver!!
Isn't it great to know that we can come back and listen to this any time we are suffering in any way.
And i have time and again. Masterpiece
The dynamics and restraint kills me. He’s so moving in his playing.
I tend to agree. Jazz, blues.
It is the best yup
So sorry he had to die in a plame crash.
Word. I listen to Jazz more than anything and this is by far my favorite work of SRV. The feeling that is conveyed by the melodic composition is truly heavenly. He is a musical genius
We do!
Im 61 yrs old and hearing this for the 1st time, WOW!😮
Never too late. SRV will find a permanent place in your soul!💙💙
what rock have you been hiding under? 60 here..been a fan since 1983 Texas Flood "Lenny" is my favorite tune. RIP Stevie
Better late than never.
Welcome aboard, you will never be the same♥️
I was lucky enough to see him play his last concert before his accident, 7/21/90 at the Gorge Amphitheater
God bless Stevie Ray Vaughan
SRV's first words in this video define who he was...a humble, beautiful soul.
💕 💞 💓 💗 💖
Every...Single...Note... perfect... not one out of place, missed, muffed, or mis-struck... the same is true with every piece of music I've heard of his. Immeasurable Talent...
Even if he played a note that was "off" or unintended, it would be bent it to his will and it would sound as if it belonged, mortals would struggle to find flaws in his music. You can tell the heavy strings he uses in this footage and if you play get an idea of the intensity of playing ultra-bright 13's and shredding your fingers for art. I used 11's and complain after teaching lessons....
@@joshuaryanrichards man you can not really play clean even ur are a good player like srv or whatever
He does fudge a note at around 00:47 but recovers like a pro.
2:00
@@musicilham I get it, but this is filmed in Austin after he had 'cleaned up '! Amazing but true my friend. This is at Zilker Park "Autitorium Shores ' right on Town Lake!
Stevie was the best.!! Swaweeetness, Happy Birthday SRV!
Heard this dozens of times and still knocks me out . Never enough.

That intro goes str8 thru my mind, body & soul....Dayum!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Perfect music...every note.
I know what you mean...

One of the best piano solos I’ve ever heard, just beautiful.
Reese Wynans chewed that piano up and spit it out.
Reese is still playing.
Lately was with Joe Bonamassa at red rocks.🎵👍
@@tuleralph6031 and he is STILL KILLING IT. Just love what he brings to both bands.
@@tuleralph6031 He's been playing fairly regularly with JB. The concert at the Greek is unbelievable! Hard to believe it's the same guy until he hits the keys!
Listen to “Crush” by bob Reynolds, it has a amazing piano solo 👍🏻 I love piano solos and I’m always looking for a good one ✌🏼
This one going out to everyone who’s still suffering in any way 💕
We Ukrainians appreciate your kind thought!
Searching for the comments because I couldn't remember the exact way he told it. Thanks
This is the song that the angels request constantly in heaven......
nice one Linda, first time listen to it..a paris feel ..he's chaming ever angel up there..
Some songs shouldn’t have a limit on “likes”, this is definitely one of them!!!
I was 6 years old and camping with my dad the first time I heard this song. It was a terrible storm that night and we were forced to spend the night in the car on an overlook. SRV Rivera Paradise then became my favorite song. I made him play it for ...2 hours straight, on a cassette tape mind you. We would play it and rewind it over and over, while the rain poured and lightning struck all around. I attribute this moment in life to be the main reason I play blues guitar now. This is a beautiful composition!
34 North Marketing Company I had a similar experience, only I was a little older, was stuck on I95 due to a huge accident ahead of us, and the song was “Cliffs of Dover” by Eric Johnson. My dad wasn’t into the guitar players I was all about at the time, but he LOVED that song, so we played it, rewound, played...for over an hour.
Here’s to otherworldly talent, circumstance, and great dads everywhere!
I used to do that to a cassette tape of tracks and lines by Eric Clapton ❤️
That’s a beautiful story
Do you think that Stevie's delicate plucks of the cords caused the lightning, makes you think!
Bro. thats a great story, thanks to share
Truth is suffering. What a beautiful song.
SAD BUT TRUE : IN TURKEY, WHICH IS MY COUNTRY, THIS WONDERFUL PIECE IS COMMONLY USED IN MANY TV SHOWS, ESPECIALLY IN LOTTERY PROGRAMS & AS WELL AS GAME SHOWS, ( LIKE JEOPARDY ) WHILE WAITING FOR THE CONTESTANTS TO GIVE THEIR FINAL ANSWERS....SAD BUT TRUE...
If ever there was an artist that bore their soul by way of instrument, it was Stevie. He told stories and spoke to your heart and soul with his playing. R.I.P. Brother😎🙏☝️
I was sitting in a bar in Atlanta about 20 years ago and I heard this music and I was flabbergasted and I asked the bartender who this is? And he said this is Stevie Ray Vaughan into this day. This is the best eight minutes of music I’ve ever heard.
At 5:40 I love how he just flows like water...I miss him. No one has ever come close to SRV.
He flows like a RIVER.... no?
Truth, he was unique
Just keeps going. At a furious pace!
Like a Texas Flood!
6:32 the sound of him hitting the bridge right before picking up the whammy bar and doing that note is so spine chilling it's ridiculous
That's picking above the nut. The bridge is at the bottom of the strings. But yes it's great.
@@KaiserBlade no, im talking about RIGHT before that. I mean the little echo right before the first note of him hitting the nut and whammying the note.
Jesus, 30 something years later from having watched that episode of Austin City Limits, the shear artistry and musical virtuosity if Stevie Ray Vaughan playing this song still brings tears to my eyes. This performance of this piece of music by one of the best guitar players who ever lived, still is something transcendent.
Stevie Is Playing This Now In Heaven.....
Plenty of tears here. 💕🥲💕 I miss SRV, lord knows I do.
I cry every time my friend! Gone way to soon!
"This one goes out to everybody who is still suffering in any way." Thirty-two years later, I still suffer your loss every time I hear you play, my friend.
Best jazz ever
One more time I will rise u w.my pray ers 🙏
That was beyond beautiful.
6:12-6:25. We get to SEE the fingers create the poetry!!!!! Thank you Stevie. I'm so happy I got to see you play twice in my life.
I just finished saying goodbye to my Siberian dog buddy, Jett who had to be put down (cancer). Sitting in my car afterward, Riveria Paradise was on the stereo and I cannot say how it soothed my aching soul. Thanks Stevie. I needed that badly.
I feel you, man! We lost two dear cats earlier this year.
The one time he slows it down, it's a masterclass for anyone.
Reeses piano is so mellow that it sounds like drops of water.
Look at the way he fingers the maple wood on the neck ..
caressing between the frets .,
Paying respect to the forest and the trees.. 🌲
What about Reese Wynans' keyboard's sublime magic? What a trio..!!❤
There are three musicians? Count them. There are Four Musicians on stage. Magical Performance.
This song never fails to take you to a different place. A place of calming and relaxation. I always loved the smile Stevie flashed at Reese after he slayed that keyboard solo. And Stevie's smile at the very end is so bittersweet. To think he was gone less than a year after this performance
Timothy Howard : It was so SRV to have said that!
Timothy Howard This masterpiece does that! Some of Johnny Cash’s do that for me also.
You just close your eyes and forget about things for awhile.
R.I.P. Stevie We all love ya!
Taavi1337 Disagree. The context and mood of the song was perfect for a keyboard solo of that quality.
@@Taavi1337 If you don't like this keyboard solo, check out the one from the CD called "Sacred Sources". It's another live performance, but I don't know from which show, or from when.
Yes it does- I put this one in my will for my kids to play at my memorial. This song always made feel grounded and peaceful
The camera angles and lighting in this recording really show how high his string action was. A true master of his craft.
Camera work is great!!!
First thing i notice was how ungodly high his action is
@@ros3m4ries is there a reason why he would have it so high? I've always been taught that having it high is not good.
Now I'm here wondering if someone on this level of guitarmanship like SRV has it so high, is it indeed a bad thing?
And 13-56 gauge strings, too!
@@patroski-mavoski no idea man, the only reason i can think of is that to avoid rattling with 13s
Had no idea he set his action so high.
How have we gotten away from this kind of music? RIP Stevie Ray.
too much sinth
Dave Allman Looks like you answered your own question.
world's getting dumber!!
Money
You're right, I never looked at it that.way...
Dear Lord, please bless everyone with health, happiness, and peace. May they always feel your love and guidance.
S.R.V. re-invented electric blues. He played every song from his heart and nailed every note! You will never hear the same version of a song twice from Stevie Ray. He is absolutely amazing!
Я полностью согласен
true dat
We never knew watching this in 1989 that we would lose him in the next year. It is one of my biggest regrets that I never saw him live.
As I sit here in nowhere Alabama by a fire sipping whiskey looking at the stars this song is perfect man
