  • Very excited by the Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery prompt for the month of June which is to create a slow stitch vessel or bowl. #Roxysjournslofstitchery
    In this video I’m going to share with you a new idea for a flower shaped hexagon bowl or vessel featuring thread painted scenes from the famous Australia children’s book Snuggle Pot and Cuddlepie.
    I’ve come up with my own idea for a shaoe that features a square shape and the base and then flares out from there using English paper pieces style hexagons. But the method I create my hexies is very easy and features a felt shape centre that makes it very easy to glue baste the hexagons.
    It’s a joy thread painting the little gum it and settle clothed gumnut babies. I even try - for the first time - to read you some of the children’s book while I slow stitch.
    Let me know how you think I went!
    With thanks to Rachel ‪@roxycreations679‬ and Sarah ‪@roxycreationsbysarah‬ for hosting this fabulous community and project.
    I hope you enjoy following along with this idea and tutorial to make an easy slow stitch bowl, container or vessel.
    Here’s a link to another slow stitch fabric container - this time a bowl made from pentagons:

    Wonderfully inspiring as always Christine. This story is one I remember reading as a child. I can remember a rainy winter morning before anyone else was awake, sitting up my cosy bed and delighting in the gumnut babies adventures. Thank you for the very poignant memory.❤❤

      What a beautiful memory Sheryl. I remember as a child how much I loved loosing myself in books and I think it’s something I miss a little bit these days as I tend to stitch rather than read in my spare time. I’ll be sure to share another instalment to finish the story and finish the bowl 🤗

    So so cute! Confession time - I never read Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Listening to the start, I think I realise why! 😬 😂 I do remember laughing out loud as a little kid reading Ruth Park’s Muddle-headed Wombat, so now I am curious to reread that to find out what was so funny , or if it was something that just worked for kids. On the subject of childhood reading, I was actually completely obsessed with the Faraway Tree. Enid Blyton set my little mind racing with incredible ideas and faraway places. I visited May Gibbs’ home last year and loved seeing where she lived and worked. They used it as Magda’s home in Ladies in Black if anyone wants to see it. 😊

    • @createandcraftwithchristine
      @createandcraftwithchristine  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh yes, the Magic Faraway Tree was a favourite too. I dressed as Saucepan Man for one of my book weeks at school and Snugglepot got another one (I remember mum made a little gumnut hat out of crepe paper and I wore a tulle ballet skirt). How lovely that our stitching can being the memories back 💙
