Assassin's Creed Odyssey takes the series even further back in time, to ancient Greece! And yet new RPG features make this new Assassin's Creed game more akin to a series set in the far-flung future -- namely Mass Effect. In this Assassin's Creed Odyssey gameplay, Ellen tells you what's new to the series. Enjoy!
I would like to see an Assassins Creed game. I'm sorry to any other Assassins Creed fans but this is not an Assassins Creed game, and neither was Origins. Before I get comments saying that I'm just salty about this new game hear me out: I'M NOT SAYING ORIGINS OR ODYSSEY IS A BAD GAME, I'M SAYING IT'S NOT AN ASSASSINS CREED GAME. Assassins Creed is a game that takes place in the present day inside a machine that lets us see history, we are not influencing it or changing it, we are seeing how it happened. That's what every game before origins did good with, we the player were not the deciding factor, the main character is, with this new game we have choice, we can choose our character and what they will say, that completely breaks the whole "we are witnessing the past" because we are not watching it unfold like we did in previous games we are choosing it. While some people are like "yeah we want an element of choice" it's not going to work, it completely breaks the story and history. The element of choice would work if we ever got an AC game in the present or the future, not the past. The romance thing should also be saved for the present or future as well because if you romance with one of many characters then it breaks how history is foretold, and if you make your character gay then how can there be descendants of the playable character? They haven't even stuck to their own story either, it feels like it went from one writing team that worked on the story for everything before Origins (1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, Liberation, 4, Freedom Cry, Unity, Rogue, Syndicate, and the Chronicles trilogy). It's been said in previous games that the assassins went even further back than in Origins, like right at the start of humanity with the Templars, maybe even further back during Precursor times. It feels like after Syndicate it went to a new writing team that completely ignored the story of the first and just grabbed a few things here and there to tie it in with the series; the hidden blade, the Apple of Eden and the hoods. With this game it just looks like they're not even going to have the brotherhood of assassins, and the title is ASSASSINS Creed not Mercenary's Creed, so they've even thrown out their own writing with this game. To the new fiction they've created there is no assassin brotherhood yet and the entire series is about the fight between Assassins and Templars. Will they even have the Templars? Before Origins the series had a thing for realistic history. We had the occasional Easter Egg of monsters but that was it, an Easter Egg that the developers put in for some fun. Even then most of them were about folk lore from the time period. Example: in 4 with the giant squid, sailors believed in such a creature and told tales of it, but did we fight it or have some giant story with it? No, we saw it once and it was never mentioned again: Easter Egg. In 3 and Rogue we had the headless horseman, during those times they believed in the ghost of a headless man that terrorized people. In 3 we saw a small glimpse of him in a side mission and that was it. In Rogue we could have a fight with him but it had no story behind it, it was literally just there as an Easter Egg. In Origins however we had a whole DLC devoted to going into the afterlife and dealing with zombie/ghost pharaohs that came back from the dead to terrorize people. It wasn't just some fold lore like they actually came and killed in the game and there was a story behind it. Now with the E3 reveal we see a Minotaur, and we'll probably fight it too. Personally I liked playing Origins, but that was it, I liked playing it. The story it told broke the rest of the fiction of the series and really it shouldn't have the AC name on it. If they made Origins and Odyssey its own standalone game away from the AC series it would be good, the thing that it shouldn't have is the Assassins Creed part. Let Assassins Creed and Origins/Odyssey be their own separate games away from each other. Andy, you're a history buff here so you have to see how this would be breaking history since the whole AC thing is showing us how history unfolded not deciding how it will play out. Ellen, please as another Assassins Creed fan you have to agree that Origins and Odyssey is turning away from what Assassins Creed is. I'm not saying that either of them are bad, I'm just saying that they should not be Assassins Creed.
Barnabus is my new fav character "Posedion wasn't trying to drown you, he was getting you where you needed to go...Aggresively " Ahhh yes, like zeus wasn't trying to smite me when that lightning just missed me, he was just critiquing my views on Zeno of Elea
Not going to lie, i just imagined a full on debate with Hades from Disney's Hercules, and as soon as the phrase "False economy" is uttered he goes full blown inferno. XD
Dionysus sits in the background, wine glass in hand gesticulating wildly about the failings of mental health services and the focus on sugar taxes rather than big business tax dodgers
I like to think that Leonidas´ last act was to teach his people how to kick people really really hard. It is probably gonna get me caught so often but I am going to kick a fool off of a ledge every opportunity I get.
It really does feel to me like Ubisoft Montreal just desperately wants to stop making Assassin's Creed games at this point. They made Black Flag which was basically 'oh alright I guess we can throw some Assassin/Templar stuff into this fun pirate game we're making' and now Origins and Odyssey, where it's 'hey, the assassins and templars aren't even around yet and none of the story has properly started, look, we can make games that aren't constrained by the restrictions of this one series, please for the love of god let us be creative again!'
Chris Preece Man honestly I have no problem with this, sometimes people feel the need to evolve, did assassins creed need to do that.. May Be not or maybe so, either I'm excited to see how this plays out
I'm interested because this game has so little to do with actual assassins and Templars. Like, what the hell is the point of making a game that's supposed to be connected to a series when it has nothing to do with the series? So obviously there must be something. And there's also all the first civilization stuff that is connected to all the Roman/Greek gods so the setting could make for interesting stuff
Well, Alexious/ Kassandra used the broken Spear of Leonidas in place of the Hidden Blade. So basically, you'll be wielding a First Civ artifact throughout the game which probably mean that the spear will be the focus for the modern day story. Just have to wait and see.
ThunderstormHD - His variety of lovers and offspring seem to be a leading catalyst for many of the Greek myths and legends. I didn't realsie, for example, that Helen of Troy was one of his children (according to Wikipedia).
Banquet42 i know but i just wanted to make a bad joke but true most of zeus's romances end up bad most of the time for his offspring cause his wife gets rly angry rly fast and he doesn't give a fu** so she uses his children as vent
THIS IS EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED. Assassin’s Creed but with more player choice including an option to always play as a woman, dialogue options and maybe romance? EXCUSE ME WHILE I FLAIL UNCONTROLLABLY
Beth Bloomer except it's not assassin's creed it's a game about a mercenary WARRIOR who goes Around Greece and has NOTHING to do with ASSASSINS or CREEDS
blackvial So far seems itll be like origins, as in there being little to no meaningful insight on the creed or its origin until the last few missions. And then its briefly adressed with a lackluster cutscene to justify making the game part of a saga that it doesn't belong in.
There were a few Greek people that were gay. But in this case I hope either characters have multiple romance options on both sides. Also to each his own, but I'll stick to a straight male character for my play through
Dont know why they even put in other dialogue options when its physically impossible not to pick an option with a heart next to it.. they wrote so much that no one will ever see, what a waste..
Sean Phillips they might come up with a reason like it's so long ago the Animus doesn't load everything properly and maybe Layla and William are having problems with it
that works... like, the animus registers the interaction but it can't completely load all the details by itself and the host has to fill in the blanks. That would be a decent hook to get players more invested in the character and the personality and learn about them from snippets of lore to perhaps predict how the character might act and role-play that way. Oooor just be the most sarcastic Spartan Princess in history!
Sean Phillips But that's the thing: You are the ancestor! It's like, in previous games: You can decide if your ancestor used the hidden blade, or a sword, or poison, or whatever else, for their assassination. You can basically decide when they ran away from guards or when you fought them off. Your ancestors may live in historical times, but they, themself, are not historical figures. What they did in life, it's something the player can decide. To put it another way: A video game with open dialogues like that, it's a story where you, as the player, are part of the writing team!
Someone clearly thought Assassins creed had too many assassins and too much creed but bloody hell, this looks fantastic. Between this, DS3 and bloodborne i need to go next gen
OH. MY. GOD. YES. also finally Ubisoft have mastered the 'too hard to animate' female characters! This looks amazing, the first AC title I've been truly excited about since Brotherhood 😍
Bye Felicia I'm hoping for a good story as well but you gotta admit the negative impact on the story that bad acting could have. Part of the reason why Origins' story was so great was Abubakr Salim's great voice acting performance. The facial animations looked great as well.
I have been an Assassin’s Creed fan for years, and this has always been my dream. I feel like last year and this year, Ubisoft has taken two giant steps in the right direction for the AC franchise.
Dude, please if you're an AC fan, understand more player choice like choosable protagonists and dialogue choices makes no sense for genetic memory. What the hell is going to be canon now? Don't hype this up, please. This isn't AC. It should have been its own IP..
the only giant step they should've taken is more development time between each games. doesn't have to be too long, two years like Origins got wouldn't be too much of a problem. I agree with LYRADdl. the lore is probably going to be messed up now that choice of protagonist is a thing. not that it's a bad thing, of course. and no Assassin and Templar conflict? a precursor to Assassins and Templars? anything remotely related to the name would've been nice. don't get me wrong, I absolutely love RPGs. but this isn't Assassin's Creed... it's something else. they just had to sell it under the name of one of their best-selling franchises...
The Harsh Truth: Yeah, but the Cannon became hard to follow with multiple comics, books, the movie, mobile games, and the side-scrolling games, the modern day is so muddied it's super hard to follow. Plus, just because we don't understand how some things work or will be, doesn't mean there isn't an answer/explanation for it. My Prediction: I see it as a test game where one year it's like an RPG dialogue set way back that history isn't super detailed allowing more wiggle room with the story and then the next year its a game like Bayek's story (still believing in the rumors of a trilogy) allowing them more time to work on their games while still releasing it yearly. Essentially being the next Call of Duty. One year its Treyarch, the next Infinity Ward. Its set so far back that if it does flop they can ignore it easily but if it works they can build off it or make it its own thing, like how AC became its own thing from Prince of Persia. Like Duncan Donuts, said they could just be using AC title to help sell this game. The Reality: Yes, I know you can say just release one game at a time and don't be another COD franchise. Fact is, this is Ubisoft and they have been releasing yearly since AC2 and only took a break because they lost a lot of their fanbase after Unity and Syndicate. Ubisoft release games yearly and would rather be another Call of Duty franchise who profits small/moderately yearly than risk going 4-5 years at a time relying on it to be a big success or flop and the title go under. Ubisoft is a company that cares about steady yearly profits rather than releasing 1 title every 5 or so years and hopes that it profits a long shelf life and not be forgotten. Ubisoft and EA focus on yearly release, whereas NaughtyDog, RockStar, and Bethesda are the take their time company. That's just my reasoning and perspective, I could be completely wrong. We've strayed so far from AC1 that you have to let it evolve into this or let it die out and if it makes even a small profit, they will make another game. Look at Madden NFL.
Well i'd rather voice my opinions and be heard than saying nothing at all. The reality is if i'm heard and it seems many share my opinion, Ubi will listen like they did after Syndicate., otherwise this will be another syndicate or unity and flop.
The only reason Unity flopped was because the game was buggy as all hell because Ubisoft didn't allow the devs enough time to fine tune everything, as for the story and everything else about it, I thought it was great personally.
Bioware: we won't be making single player games anymore Literally all big publishers out there: hold my beer Glad to see rpg mechanics come back into big games like this. I did enjoy AC Origins and I am really looking forward to this one!
Remember when Assassin's Creed was a parkour assassin game reminiscent of Prince of Persia with the promise of a future day assassin story-line against Templars in a never-ending shadow war?
George Wright That's because they threw away the idea and killed off Desmond. We never got that sweet pay off and I don't even know why the srory is continuing or who's even in the animus anymore
Yes, and it got boring rather quickly. Played AC 1 and liked it. Never made it to the end of AC 2. Left the series and wasn't planning on returning, then saw Odyssey. Will play it like mad. Should have LOTS of replay value.

Mike A He doesn't need to have the game to be correct about it.
I see Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect in the same title. This isn't fair! I don't have a choice, I HAVE TO LIKE!!! Aren't Assassin's supposed to fight for Freedom!!!!!
Your comment is made of win, but the pedantic OCD part of me needs to chuckle at the wording. "Lesbian from Sparta" XD. That's like saying "Texan from California". Lesbians were called as such because one of the earliest and most famous gay women was Sapho from the island of Lesbos in greece. It was later adopted as a blanket term for all gay women, regardless of where they come from, but technically speaking, anyone who lives in Lesbos is a lesbian :P Thus "lesbian from sparta" is a pretty funny line. :P
Loved the person narrating this video. Great enthusiasm describing the game, and specially the bit of swooning at the badass Spartan Kick. I guess I know what skill I'm getting first and spamming every chance I get when the game releases.
So you’re playing before the origins of assassins, or Templars with gameplay options that only make the context that you’re playing through a characters memories in the past only that more confusing. It’s hard to tell myself this is an assassins creed game.
Yup same here. One run going full THIS IS SPARTA!!!!! and one stealth/ranged run at least

Glass Cannon Then play an RPG! There is no reason people like you had to complain that AC wasn't like other games. If you wanted an RPG, then play RPGs. You didn't need to ruin a franchise.
This looks good, I like the idea of choosing your own character and all the different dialogue options. It should add replayability. My one complaint about syndicate was that once fully upgraded, Jacob and evie played the same and they weren't meant to. Just having one character solves that. And ship combat is back? Good. I'm taking it there's no multiplayer again? What about the historical mode? Is that returning?
Why is Assa actually ME? Because it too has basic rpg staples like character creation, being a soldier, being part of a greater conflict, having a quest hub, having a leveling system to customize your character and dialogue options. Genius content! Genius!
The joy for me with this game is you’re basically one of the agents from the Total War series but close up. I’ve always wanted to get closer to their experience.
Everybody's talking about the Spartan Kick, meanwhile I'm in love with the other special move: SHIELD BREAKER! Why do I keep imagining some very loud announcer shouting "Shield...BREAKER!" every time you use it??
But wasn't the whole deal with the Animus was about experiancing the past as it happened. Giving dialogue options, romance options, doesn't that defeat the purpose of it?
Considering you can remember your ancestor dying multiple times before they actually die, and you can do things that your ancestor didn't do, I think that's already happened.
It wasn't that they died multiple times, it was that you are controling the character in order sync with the memory better. When they die, it show "Desyncronizing". The ancestors did fought like the way they did, in-game that is. Desmond learned how to fight through his ancestors and the Bleeding Effect.
Why yes, the fact that on two separate playthoughs of Assassin's Creed 2 I killed a given boss with two separate weapons means that every playthrough of Assassin's Creed 2 is a separate universe where Desmond's ancestor did a different thing. As you will only be able to choose a specific dialogue option in every playthrough for a given conversation, every playthrough is in fact a separate parallel universe.
not really: when you speak to someone you have a multitudes of choices but you choice one (for example someone in the street ask you for direction, you can help him/her, ignore him/her, giving false directions, saying that you don't know...) This process in your mind is done very quickly according a lot of different things. The multi choice dialogue can be seen as that: all the ideas that cross your ancestor mind before he choose one and you in the animus you (technicaly) didn't choice but just see what your ancestors was thinking and decided.
If you played the games, you would realize that yes the Animus in the first 3 games were strictly you reliving what happened with your own ancestor, but then Abstergo developed the Helix where anyone could relive history, and now it has been even more advanced. The game will explain it, like always. Plus, it’s not like we the player will change who ends up winning the war or becoming some God-like figure in Greece...history will still play out the same.
I love the fact that they are pushing Kassandra to the be the character we select to play with, but I'd also like to hear some dialogue from Alexios. I haven't heard a word.
I'm interested on how will they manage and address the LGTB content in this game. Historically speaking both the Greeks and Romans did not frown upon same sex relationships so I wonder how many liberties is Ubisoft willing to take based on cultural background. Also, since the Athens had a very different point of view on that regard to the militia like Sparta and such, while accepted it was seen through different approaches and this intrigues me quite a lot as this can be a major step from your normal/average game where the character so happens to be able of be intimate with one or two guys during the gameplay. #historicalgeek
George Wagner Belzer Miranda correct me if I am wrong. While relationships between men were accepted. (In some Greek armies even encouraged) Weren’t lesbian ones were frowned upon?
Yes and no, as there are little to no information about that topic. It's up to debate whether or not it was widely accepted. In the few instances that still exist as up today, they were accepted but only by the elite, specially in the militia as normally just like with same age men relationships in the polis of athens it was considered controversial for the laws of the polis. That's why the relationship between Alexander the great and his childhood friend and hephaestion was not widely accepted as it was not a relationship of pederasty between a teen and a old man but a relationship of equals. The same goes for women, in the polis as long as it was pederasty, it was accepted but in the armies the story changed and as you said, it was even encouraged but since there are not as much of material for scholars to study from as with male homosexuality in ancient Greece, only the basic notions might be applied to them.
Relationships between men were not accepted in ancient greece, it is a common urban myth. As for the armies, ancient greek authors make it pretty clear that the Theban sacred band had nothing sexual going on...and the reason they state it, is because a lot of butthurt non Theban greeks were bashing them as gay...to invalidate them since they were the best fighting group for a period of time.
I think you have confused a few things. Homosexuality was borderline banned by law in Athens and Sparta. Athens had laws against it (from Solon and other sources) . As for Sparta, every source including Xenophon who wrote about their state, says the same. Plato and many others also speak against homosexuality frequentely. We do not know if some small cities tolerated it since our sources are mostly for Athens and Sparta, but it seems that this was the case everywhere. The relationships between men in ancient Greece were relationships between teachers and students or mentors and younger men. Ancient Greeks thought that a young man needed the guidance of an older man since the youth was supposed to learn and respect their ancestors.
Well, I may have misunderstood some things when studying it but that can be said about several things since neither of us lived in those eras. I do agree with you as it was as you said "banned by law" and the pederasty was also as we both said a relationship between what essentially is an old man and a teen regardless of social status; however there have been several studies that go against that idea for example when talking about militia the "sacred band of thebes" comes to mind where a philosopher of those ages, I don't recall who exactly was (Pamenes or plutarco) criticised the way that army was managed as the general should have organised them by tribes instead of groups of lovers which was one of the reasons of it's disgraceful downfall according to that philosopher. In other instances as well there has been studied the differences between elites and common folks as the low classes were against that while the elite in most cases not. Moreover it has been widely accepted in old literature that in some areas it was more accepted as for example the writer Sappho wrote an incredible sheer amount of poetry dedicated to other women in which she had some interest far beyond the normal and not sexual desire.
Honestly, you video has convinced me I'll get Odyssey. Loved Origins and thought it was a breath of fresh air for the franchise, so seeing this at Ubisoft's conference I was pleased to see they were going the Origins route though was worried it'd lose something in leaning even more into RPG but after seeing this and seeing what sort of RPG elements they were adding, I'm keen to get the game. The customisation of move sets, being able to recruit for big battles, and the romance element, and your choices mattering and affecting the storyline, seems they've picked the right RPG staples to add.
It's not. It's just an excuse to re-use the same engine as the last game, without putting as much dev time into the game, to milk as much money out of their new rebooted RPG-augmented franchise until buyer fatigue sets in again and they have to reboot once more. This is a clear case of buyer beware for me.
+Mike Jacobs Which is why I said "buyer beware" and "look forward to being proven wrong". But triple-AAyyyyy has burned me enough in the past that I'm pretty sure I can tell in advance which games I won't enjoy and steer well clear.
So you play as a Spartan merc who is fighting against the oppressive Athenians. Disregarding the fact that some of the higher estimates put the slave counts for the Spartans at somewhere around 7 slaves per Spartan...
From modern eyes, there is indeed a certain irony there (though it must be said the Athenians were quite slave-happy as well), but nearly two-and-a-half millenia ago, people's frames of reference looked completely differently. You'd be hard-pressed to find anybody in ancient Greece who considered the institution of slavery to be a particularly bad thing, nor would you have found a great amount of support for this democracy thing that Athens was experimenting with. As such, it is entirely understandable how a Spartan might feel genuinely threatened by the dominance of Athens, and characterise that as a form of oppression worse than slavery, even if we'd view it the exact opposite way today.
Except that people in AC have always been 100% identical mentality-wise to those of today. All women are snarky and sexually liberated, all sorts of discrimination get the exact same treatment in Ancient Egypt as they would at a Democratic rally... so no, I don't think you can use the "they looked at these things differently" argument in regard to this particular franchise.
And the fact that they may or may not have dabbled quite a bit in eugenics and infanticide. But only men could vote in Athens, so they were the proto-Nazis, clearly. (and yes, I realize both city-states did bad shit.)
Just like every AC game, you don’t have a side...yes you are born in Sparta, but you are not an actual Spartan. You can choose to side with either or choose to be your own merc
Clearly you never understood this franchise...AC is not about the same 2 factions fighting over and over, it is an ideal that was born when humans rebelled against the Isu and has carried throughout history.
Was skeptical at first but this could be an interesting game. We got the birth of the Brotherhood in Origins so maybe this time we get the birth of The Order, since: 1) They apparently existed for a while long before the Brotherhood was founded 2) The fact that you have a precursor spear thing can't be coincidence and can explain how the order knows such items exist in the world 3) Why they wouldn't be against using such items since they saw what the spear did and how it affected the war, think of it like an extended intro from AC3 when you play as Haytham who was a Templar
"How many people are you going to try and romance?" All of them. Every time a little heart icon appears I'm clicking it, consequences be damned. I don't give a damn about pre-established relationships when one or both members is romanceable to my person, see my Sims game as evidence.
aaronroach Representation matters. Having the option to play as a character that identifies the same as you do is massive, so a lot of people DO care. Anyways, feel free to go back to being a prick. Have a nice life.
Hell, I'm not even gay, and I LOVE that not only there's romance in this game, but romance available to everyone. It even fits the time period. This is ancient greece :P home of Alexander the Great, one of the most famous gay men in history.
Ancient Greece and Rome had gay sex that was 100% carnal and that was it, there was nothing romantic or platonic about it, just sheer fucking. Also it was essential you were not on the receiving end if you had any reputation to uphold. Alexander fucked his soldiers left and right but he was the one putting his dick inside their assholes, not the other way around-otherwise he would have been branded as a sissy. Many totally straight guys did this without even enjoying it, just to show everybody how tough they were that they not only smashed chicks but even other dudes. It all looked _nothing_ like the soyboys at Ubisoft present it. It's actually infuriating: libtards can't be satisfied with just ruining people's present and future, they can't even keep their dirty hands on our historical legacy. Like, we get it, you're desperate for attention and validation, "oh, look at us, we're so progressive", well fine, here it is! *Now fuck off our games already!*
One of my favorite game series taking a couple of the best pages out of one of my other favorite series' book all set to the backdrop of one of my favorite times in history (this coming from a history major nearing the end of her education). I have never been this hyped for an Assassin's Creed title. I cannot wait.
What's the point of calling it assassins creed like it looks like a great game but not an great assassins creed game personally I was hoping they'd get the story back on track gameplay wise they made it better but it's they abandoned the story behind it.
Alright, this looks amazing, wish they'd make a full game of it... And I'm pretty impressed that in-game characters pronounced stuff in the "correct" Greek way.
I was thinking it's odd that there aren't assassins or templars but then I remembered that I really enjoyed the story of black flag and that barely mentioned assassins. I'm actually kind of excited for this one
T’CHALLA THE GREATEST Well stated. Please state your arguments in a way I can understand, I enjoyed Syndicate, and found the characters more entertaining than, say Edward Kenway. (I never played the original AC). More importantly, the game was more fun and held my interest better than an other full AC game! Why’d you like the original one better?
460mas where's the AC story in odyssey. Anyway wasn't origins a change? Look how well that did whilst containing a story relevent to the name assassins creed.
All I want is to Play Aya in Rome. She is the first person to head the Order and there are loads of hints in Bayak's dlc to suggest she is being kept very very busy.
PSspecialist If you play it with a different language then of course it would make sense for whatever the word for blue is in that language also, it would be kinda stupid for them to speak a whole sentence in English/any and then say a random ancient word that no gamer would know means blue.
If the Animus is used to get you into this story then THERE is your link to classic Assassin's Creed. I spose its a stretch lol, but I'm perfectly willing to be well entertained playing this. My entertainment budget has no stipulation that a game series has to stay the same over a decade. I just want to enjoy the 100+ hours I spend in a fabulously reimagined world. Great review, Outside Xtra! Subscribed.
I'm happy to see the return of the ship based combat. That is the major selling point for me. I still play AC:BF just to blow stuff up with cannons. It would have been really cool if they added in Greek Fire to the ship combat
I feel like AC has peaked now, I'm not sure how they can top this. I mean hasn't everyone always wanted to play as a brutal, Ancient Greek Lesbian Warrior that can Spartan kick 300lbs guys 10 feet and bang everybody involved in the Peloponnesian War? I know I have.
So you're NOT an assassin OR Templar… in a game called "Assassin's Creed" which is supposed to be all about the shadow war between the Assassins and Templars… Hmmm… Seems to me this could (and maybe SHOULD) have had a different name, as in NOT part of the AC series since it's entirely disconnected in theme, style, and most importantly, story.
What if its the founding of the group that would become Templar like how origins was the formation of the hidden ones who eventually became the brotherhood or the first "mortal"contact with the first civilization since every member of the first civ we've meet have had the name of a Greek god
Well that's backwards, Athens was the most forward city of its time. Intact its where a little known the called democracy was started. Do effectively you're the bass guys as sparta. Not saying Athens was prefect but it was better then the rest.
Chilldude 101 Plus they were never a significantly superior military force than any other at the time, they just happened to lose a battle in a fashion that got them a lot of positive press and went "OK we're this thing now"
Actually it doesn't matter. Both are the bad guys.Athens may have been the"cradle of democracy" but that was if you were a free man(no women or slaves were allowed a say in governance).Plus they did forcefully allied with other city states, used all the money from the supposed common alliance fees, and quelled rebellions in bloodbath.Sparta while flawed, had a society that treated women with more respect(no way they could be mercenaries thought, that is fiction)and was a mighty power even if it didn't have the resources that Athens had(Sparta won the Peloponnesian war, even though it was at a high cost for all of Greece with all the killing and such).Still not the best people when it comes to slaves.
_no women or slaves were allowed a say in governance_ Considering how Lucasfilm has been doing under KK, I'm not sure if I can see that much villainy in not giving women a say in things in life anymore.
first assassin's creed I've been interested in since Assassin's creed 2. I loooove the setting. And ubisoft implementing rpg mechanics from the witcher and mass effect is definitely a plus in my book
Alexios: Kassandra Kassandra: Alexios Alexios: Did you learn the kick? Kassandra: The one that sends people flying 10feet away? Of course I did. Alexios: Good, you'll be doing it alot.
I wish you could possess people with hats in Assassin's Creed, that'd be almost as cool as playing as a Vega type character and leaping around with a claw.
Enjoy!
Okay...Okay....I see what your saying.....
But how "good" are Cassandra/Alexious's Dance Moves?
-.-
so Ellen, does this mean you have an Assassin's Creed character to cosplay as now?
Outside Xtra Taking back the areas and a big fight at the end that is just like syndicate
I can't wait for the dragon slayer, DLC. You know that's coming, at least it should be coming.
Origins and Black Flag have had a beautiful love child. She shall be known as Odyssey.
Barnabus is my new fav character "Posedion wasn't trying to drown you, he was getting you where you needed to go...Aggresively " Ahhh yes, like zeus wasn't trying to smite me when that lightning just missed me, he was just critiquing my views on Zeno of Elea
Violet Moon hades wasn’t trying to cause you an eternity of torment, just a valuable lesson on the economy
I imagine that Hades is a pretty chill guy so long as you don't start debating whether or not we're experiencing a false economy
Violet Moon true... true
So wait, BioWare makes a game without romance, and we get an Assassin's Creed with romance? Alright, who messed with the timeline?
:D … God damn it, Barry!
Don't forget the COD without singleplayer and the BF with singleplayer
I crashed my Delorian into a blue police box... maybe...?
Just curious which BioWare game you are referring to? Can't keep up with E3 for a while because of Irl stuff TT
Anthem
If they didnt hire Andy as the eagle's voice then I dont wanna play it XD
Fingers crossed the game starts with Senu in the animus reliving the memories of her ancestors.
KeybladeMaster Katsu SENUS HERE
HEY BAYEK, I SEE PEOPLE!!
Dom Locke TWIST!
KASSANDRA I CAN SEE AMPHORAS
The game was announced not 5 minutes ago! Damn you guys are fast
they are professionals.
Dhruv Narayan Arora Press get early access to the games, so many of the E3 videos will have been in production for the last few weeks :)
I like to think that Leonidas´ last act was to teach his people how to kick people really really hard.
It is probably gonna get me caught so often but I am going to kick a fool off of a ledge every opportunity I get.
John O ́neil They'll probably have a trophy unlock for that
This is Persia!
Achievement Unlocked: Spartan Kick 300,000 enemies (Easy)
Just like Skyrim Fush Ro Dah npc's of the cliffs i will do the same here but the spartan way!
YAAAAAASSSS
Play as a buff woman? Dialog options? Romances? A ship with sea shanties? SIGN ME UP!
Odd that assassins creed picked up the things that Anthem left out. Sweet.
Only reason that matters: That heart dialogue option means ROMANCES
"Yas Spartan kick-Yas!" *In the background* THIS IS SPARTA!!
All I could think about when I saw it...
I'm a Greek that loves Mass effect. This has better be good!
musicaddictor_anniepapaz φαίνεται τέλειο! Ειδικα η προφορά!
And beautiful
May Be not or maybe so, either I'm excited to see how this plays out
Odyssey is made by Ubisoft Quebec, not Montreal.
Chris Preece fuck you ac iv was way better than ac3 ac1 and ac2-revelations
Do the romance options include Zeus? All the problems in Greek mythology seem to originate around Zeus romance optioning everyone...
Banquet42 you mean all the ( electric-)tensions are caused by him
E Lectrik - Language.
Nothing wrong with making bad jokes, my youtube comments are full of them :)
THIS IS EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED. Assassin’s Creed but with more player choice including an option to always play as a woman, dialogue options and maybe romance? EXCUSE ME WHILE I FLAIL UNCONTROLLABLY
Beth Bloomer except it's not assassin's creed it's a game about a mercenary WARRIOR who goes Around Greece and has NOTHING to do with ASSASSINS or CREEDS
ziv israeli well that is how your character starts, who knows where they will end up
blackvial So far seems itll be like origins, as in there being little to no meaningful insight on the creed or its origin until the last few missions. And then its briefly adressed with a lackluster cutscene to justify making the game part of a saga that it doesn't belong in.
Enzo Rubius true. The game itself was still amazing tho. Maybe a spin-off series?
It is not really original AC series but as a new game it is fantastic
Kyra: This is Kassandra. The one I told you about ;)
Kassandra: [totally keeping it cool but screaming on the inside because OMG SHE TALKS ABOUT ME??]
It's like Assassin's Creed but super gay, which is 10000% better
Ioannis Stefanakis lol sure dude, cool story bro
We’re gonna get _suuuuuuuper_ gay
There were a few Greek people that were gay. But in this case I hope either characters have multiple romance options on both sides. Also to each his own, but I'll stick to a straight male character for my play through
Bye Felicia I’m so with you on the “super gay AC with a female lead” hype train 🚂
Dont know why they even put in other dialogue options when its physically impossible not to pick an option with a heart next to it.. they wrote so much that no one will ever see, what a waste..
Kevo Walker Not to mention you can't choose what your ancestors have said in the past.
Sean Phillips they might come up with a reason like it's so long ago the Animus doesn't load everything properly and maybe Layla and William are having problems with it
Cj Cutsforth That would be pretty cool.
that works... like, the animus registers the interaction but it can't completely load all the details by itself and the host has to fill in the blanks.
“Okay they might be oppressing everyone here but that owl is pretty darn cute” so THAT’S how Jane tempted Ellen to the dark side - with cute animals!
Beth Bloomer the easiest route would have been to allow her to put more Kingdoms of Amalur content up
Someone clearly thought Assassins creed had too many assassins and too much creed
but bloody hell, this looks fantastic. Between this, DS3 and bloodborne i need to go next gen
Plot Twist, (He/She)'s Shepard's ancestor
ShapedSquare Super duper plot twist, they’re Senu’s.
That far back? Probably would be
That far back they're pretty much everyone's ancestors
OH. MY. GOD. YES.
also finally Ubisoft have mastered the 'too hard to animate' female characters!
This looks amazing, the first AC title I've been truly excited about since Brotherhood 😍
I mean, the animations look like shit...
Aziz Nikbin if the story is good, I genuinely don't care 👍
Bye Felicia I'm hoping for a good story as well but you gotta admit the negative impact on the story that bad acting could have. Part of the reason why Origins' story was so great was Abubakr Salim's great voice acting performance. The facial animations looked great as well.
Aziz Nikbin absolutely, but here on the hype train we hope only for the best ;)
Fingers crossed eh?
Bye Felicia Yup!
I see "______ is Mass Effect..." and I click.
Wasn't even looking at this game till now
I have been an Assassin’s Creed fan for years, and this has always been my dream.
The Harsh Truth:
Yeah, but the Cannon became hard to follow with multiple comics, books, the movie, mobile games, and the side-scrolling games, the modern day is so muddied it's super hard to follow. Plus, just because we don't understand how some things work or will be, doesn't mean there isn't an answer/explanation for it.
My Prediction:
I see it as a test game where one year it's like an RPG dialogue set way back that history isn't super detailed allowing more wiggle room with the story and then the next year its a game like Bayek's story (still believing in the rumors of a trilogy) allowing them more time to work on their games while still releasing it yearly.
The Reality:
Yes, I know you can say just release one game at a time and don't be another COD franchise.
The main character should have been named Bigus Dickus
Well, there's two of them, soooo... Bigus Dickus and Bigus Titus?
You are thinking Rome not Greece.
Also, not sure if many here know the origin of that joke.
Kassandra's Roman all over Greece, by the looks of it.
Titania Ovaria?
There should be a Monty Python version of this game! Only way I’d play this.
Bioware: we won't be making single player games anymore
Literally all big publishers out there: hold my beer
Glad to see rpg mechanics come back into big games like this. I did enjoy AC Origins and I am really looking forward to this one!
Bioware will soon be nonexistent. EA never could keep their fingers on the pulse of gamers.
Sara Bardi If you want RPG elements then play an RPG. This is honestly ridiculous how much they are bastardizing AC.
Remember when Assassin's Creed was a parkour assassin game reminiscent of Prince of Persia with the promise of a future day assassin story-line against Templars in a never-ending shadow war?
Rodrigo yeah I remember them they made another but ton games and it got boring
George Wright That's because they threw away the idea and killed off Desmond. We never got that sweet pay off and I don't even know why the srory is continuing or who's even in the animus anymore
Oh hey, didn't know you had the game already. Dumbass lol.
I'm expecting this comparison to mean I can bang all of Ancient Greece
[Edit] I am content
[Bangs in greek]
Fully romanceable minotaurs.
Samuel Lightwing why stop at minotaurs? Give me lamia, gorgons, and centaur while we're at it
chase teel Geeet out the stunning snakeeeesss
Zeus Simulator.
I see Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect in the same title.
This isn't fair!
I don't have a choice, I HAVE TO LIKE!!! Aren't Assassin's supposed to fight for Freedom!!!!!
Me: I can’t stand Ass Creed, it’s boring, you hardly get any choices.
Ubisoft: You can be a badass lesbian from Sparta.
Me, sweating: Goddamnit.
It was later adopted as a blanket term for all gay women, regardless of where they come from, but technically speaking, anyone who lives in Lesbos is a lesbian :P
Thus "lesbian from sparta" is a pretty funny line. :P
Fallout: New Vegas was better 😂😂
Loved the person narrating this video. Great enthusiasm describing the game, and specially the bit of swooning at the badass Spartan Kick. I guess I know what skill I'm getting first and spamming every chance I get when the game releases.
Man, AC has been nailing it with the time periods.
So you’re playing before the origins of assassins, or Templars with gameplay options that only make the context that you’re playing through a characters memories in the past only that more confusing. It’s hard to tell myself this is an assassins creed game.
I'm glad SOMEONE realized we want RPG games & delivered! I'm making multiple saves so I can play as both
Yup same here.
It also has a mild God of War vibe to it, though that's hard to avoid any time you're doing brutal melee combat in Greece
How is this an assassin's creed game, when there are no assassins?!
That...is a good question actually.
Maybe you’re forming the creed
Didn't that happen in Origins already?
I heard it is about the origins of the templar/ancient order
might go deeper into lore about first civilization
"How many people do you plan to romance?" If it's even a little like Mass Effect, the correct answer is " all of them."
All of them +1
+ however are added in the dlc. + 1.
8:50 looking forward to hearing Andy sing these sea shanties 😉
anybody feel like saying "THIS IS SPARTA" after seeing the Spartan kick move? lol just pops into my head
/clicks fingers in a z formation
HERE FOR IT
This looks good, I like the idea of choosing your own character and all the different dialogue options. It should add replayability. My one complaint about syndicate was that once fully upgraded, Jacob and evie played the same and they weren't meant to. Just having one character solves that. And ship combat is back? Good. I'm taking it there's no multiplayer again? What about the historical mode? Is that returning?
I’m no a fan of assassins creed BUT I might get this one.
I know one thing: this is on PC, right? Kassandra looks better than what I remember
Jeez that was fast.. they only just announced this
Why is Assa actually ME? Because it too has basic rpg staples like character creation, being a soldier, being part of a greater conflict, having a quest hub, having a leveling system to customize your character and dialogue options. Genius content! Genius!
Cassandra is absolutely Shepherd reincarnated (pre-incarnated?) and I love it 😍
Beth Bloomer wouldn't Shepherd be Kassandra reincarnated?
...what? Kassandra was before Shepard lol...
The joy for me with this game is you’re basically one of the agents from the Total War series but close up. I’ve always wanted to get closer to their experience.
Soon a new meme will be all over the inernet - Tha chtypisoume, entaxei! (Greek for: We'll bang, okay)!
Report to the ship
I had no desire to play this game until watching this video. Nice job shining a new light on this abundant franchise
I'm about it! Assassin's Creed always had the bones of an RPG in it.
It very much did not to start with, they were slowly introduced I reckon.
You have a very important decision of choosing between two characters, but "with gameplay being exactly the same whoever you choose."
Why is it called assassins creed?
I mean, there are no assassins
Yeah, so weird.
Well, the name sells. It's easier to sell the new game in a established franchise, or at least that seems logical to me.
Because its easier to print than Possible Ancestors Of People Who Will Become Assassins One Day Creed
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Abstergo chasing magic artifacts in that time period seems reasonable. "Senu One: A Templar Story".
Playing an ancient warrior lesbian is all I ever wanted in a game! 🌈😍
Did they ever make a Zena: Warrior Princess game?
K Collier yes but it sucked
Yes just now! ;)
K Collier
The name's Xena. With an X. Don't mess with it, it's a very special letter.
2:52 - okay... you got me right there... -shells out 120 dollars- this scene alone - that voice acting - the staging... I HAVE to have this game lol
Ummm how exactly is this related to the “creed”?
It's not. It's just an excuse to re-use the same engine as the last game, without putting as much dev time into the game, to milk as much money out of their new rebooted RPG-augmented franchise until buyer fatigue sets in again and they have to reboot once more.
This is a clear case of buyer beware for me.
You're assuming that this is gonna be crap. It might not be.
I look forward to being proven wrong, then.
So the game hasn't even came out and u are already saying this game is trash really how about u wait till the game comes out then make u opinion on it
+Mike Jacobs Which is why I said "buyer beware" and "look forward to being proven wrong". But triple-AAyyyyy has burned me enough in the past that I'm pretty sure I can tell in advance which games I won't enjoy and steer well clear.
I haven't played a Assassin's Creed game in a long time but I'm back in for this game
Oh, my God, YES!!! Can't wait!!❤❤❤
This looks sooo awesome, who would have thought Assassins Creed, of all franchises, would fill the emptiness left in my heart after Mass Effect!
So you play as a Spartan merc who is fighting against the oppressive Athenians. Disregarding the fact that some of the higher estimates put the slave counts for the Spartans at somewhere around 7 slaves per Spartan...
Gotta love irony...
0:55 Kudos on timing the steps and music so well
So why call it assassins creed at all, besides the first civilization spear, I hope theres more in game
Ok well failing any real presence of Assassin's Creed themes, we'll just call this Odyssey. Simples.
Clearly you never understood this franchise...AC is not about the same 2 factions fighting over and over, it is an ideal that was born when humans rebelled against the Isu and has carried throughout history.
Was skeptical at first but this could be an interesting game. We got the birth of the Brotherhood in Origins so maybe this time we get the birth of The Order, since:
1) They apparently existed for a while long before the Brotherhood was founded
2) The fact that you have a precursor spear thing can't be coincidence and can explain how the order knows such items exist in the world
3) Why they wouldn't be against using such items since they saw what the spear did and how it affected the war, think of it like an extended intro from AC3 when you play as Haytham who was a Templar
THIS IS SPARTA!!!
In all seriousness this is awesome
I'm excited.
Bringing back naval exploration and battles plus it's set in Greece makes it so more appealing.
I want to be excited for this game, it really does look good. But the more I think about it the more problems I have with it.
I'm basically discarding this game as a "true" Assassin's Creed game in my head but I really fucking like how this looks.
"How many people are you going to try and romance?" All of them. Every time a little heart icon appears I'm clicking it, consequences be damned. I don't give a damn about pre-established relationships when one or both members is romanceable to my person, see my Sims game as evidence.
My lesbian heart is extremely happy and excited omg 💜
Áine MD nobody gives a fuck about your sexuality.
aaronroach Representation matters.
This is ancient greece :P home of Alexander the Great, one of the most famous gay men in history.
fuck you and your lesbian heart
That stealth assassination is missing something. Oh right! Stealth!
*facepalm* you can still use stealth even if all the play throughs don’t show it, JUST LIKE EVERY AC GAME!
I was thinking it's odd that there aren't assassins or templars but then I remembered that I really enjoyed the story of black flag and that barely mentioned assassins. I'm actually kind of excited for this one
Where are my assassins and templars!!!!!!! How can it be called an assassins creed game without the brotherhood / order.
nuclearspark 365
Totally agree! Bring back Jacob and Evie!
With the Creed part obviously. Though I doubt about its presence in any form.
T’CHALLA THE GREATEST
Well stated. Please state your arguments in a way I can understand, I enjoyed Syndicate, and found the characters more entertaining than, say Edward Kenway. (I never played the original AC). More importantly, the game was more fun and held my interest better than an other full AC game! Why’d you like the original one better?
nuclearspark 365 because if the game is going to last the game needs to change and it still has the assassin’s creed story to it.
The game is not even assassins creed anymore lol I LOVE IT!!
Am I the only one picturing Ellen delivering spartan kicks, dark tights and purple shorts and all? It's somehow terrifyingly adorable.
Blue? That's historically inaccurate.... Where's Luke and Andy??? Tell them blue didn't exist until more recently...
You have never been in an ancient Egyptian tomb have you? Earliest blue dyes were created by grinding Lapis to dust for example.
He meant it in a sense that ancient people didn't have a word for "blue" If I'm not mistaken what we call "blue" was seen as another hue of green.
PSspecialist yeah but the game is in english so of course it makes total sense to use the english word for blue imo.
PSspecialist If you play it with a different language then of course it would make sense for whatever the word for blue is in that language also, it would be kinda stupid for them to speak a whole sentence in English/any and then say a random ancient word that no gamer would know means blue.
Vegito H I don't care either way, I was only meaning to explain where the idea that blue didn't exist comes from.
Subscribed.
Is this game can pick side? I don’t like spartan
I'm happy to see the return of the ship based combat. That is the major selling point for me. I still play AC:BF just to blow stuff up with cannons. It would have been really cool if they added in Greek Fire to the ship combat
I am not hating... but why call it Assasins Creed anymore at this point?
It has so little to do with Assasins and takes place before the Creed exists.
LiverSpottedHunk takes place in the same setting, hel the main character uses a first civilization weapon
The Brotherhood and the Creed may not be there, but the war against tyrants began in the Garden and has never ended
I am normally never an Assasin's Creed fan, however, I have and always will love the Mass Effect trilogy. This has definitely peaked my instrest!
Assassins Creed will never be a proper RPG.
*Sees women kissing
Never mind.
Two words; Feudal Japan
Soyboi
I love how the music syncs with the footsteps
So you're NOT an assassin OR Templar… in a game called "Assassin's Creed" which is supposed to be all about the shadow war between the Assassins and Templars… Hmmm… Seems to me this could (and maybe SHOULD) have had a different name, as in NOT part of the AC series since it's entirely disconnected in theme, style, and most importantly, story.
It could be about the first civilization instead but yeah the name doesn't really fit
What if its the founding of the group that would become Templar like how origins was the formation of the hidden ones who eventually became the brotherhood or the first "mortal"contact with the first civilization since every member of the first civ we've meet have had the name of a Greek god
Well you do use a first civilization weapon
Yeah I'd say that's a huge clue right there.
Matthew Bartlett no it isn’t actually its suppose to be about what the developers want it to be.
Never really ever looked forward to an Assassin's game but I am super keen on this one.
_no women or slaves were allowed a say in governance_
Considering how Lucasfilm has been doing under KK, I'm not sure if I can see that much villainy in not giving women a say in things in life anymore.
the only thing that bugs me is that the basic armor looks wayyyyy to good and i won
*high pitched screaming*
Caitlin RC all aboard that motherchuggin' hype train CHOO CHOOOOOOOOO
ahhhh i'm so hyped for this game now - i've felt for so long that assassins creed would suit an rpg style
No its just a reskin of Origins.
first assassin's creed I've been interested in since Assassin's creed 2. I loooove the setting. And ubisoft implementing rpg mechanics from the witcher and mass effect is definitely a plus in my book
Alexios: Kassandra
Kassandra: Alexios
Alexios: Did you learn the kick?
Kassandra: The one that sends people flying 10feet away? Of course I did.
Alexios: Good, you'll be doing it alot.
Finally a Assassin Creed game I’m excited for again! Thank for the info! I didn’t even know this was coming out.
I wish you could possess people with hats in Assassin's Creed, that'd be almost as cool as playing as a Vega type character and leaping around with a claw.
I need this game! It has an RPG style with ancient Greek (. I am obsessed with mythology and anything Greek) and a romance option . It's perfect
