An idea to consider: every year, before the end of year, anything that hasn't made its way to "sold" in a garage sale that is in the garage sale pile gets donated. A one year limit is relatively broad, and sets a healthy boundary for what can/should realistically be kept for the intention of selling.
Has anyone seen "peelingawaytheclutter" looks like she just started her journey a couple weeks ago. Reminds of the start of your channel in alot of ways. I posted this channel on her page. I love watching the progress. Thank you ladies for opening up to us and sharing 🥰🥰🥰
Ms. Heart- I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I wanted to say thank you. It is empowering to see your progress in your home, but there’s more to it than that. I found some comfort in watching your channel- and I apologize for the following comments because it’ll be a bit long. A good friend of mine recently died. Her funeral was this month. (September 2023). She had survived cancer, a traumatic brain injury, non-epileptic seizures, and severe heart problems. But then, she was in and out of the hospital for heart surgery. And…her heart finally stopped. She was only 38. I met her through a non-epileptic support group on zoom (in the middle of the pandemic). She was a part of my life through my first pregnancy and my second, but she never got to meet my children. Having unpredictable seizures meant that neither of us were safe to drive, and we were dependent on our husbands to take us wherever we needed to go. She lived too far away from my little family for a casual visit. What hurts so much is that my husband just started school near the city she lived in- we were just about to make it there to see her and introduce her to our children. We never got the chance. I know it’s a “see you later” moment not a goodbye, but I’ve been really hurting, and today (September 27), is my birthday, and I couldn’t care less. I miss my friend. The point of all this is to say, that at first, I couldn’t find closure in her death. The grief was seemingly insurmountable. Then I watched your most recent video, and I found some comfort, and I realized why that is. Your facial features, voice tone, and beautiful personality are so much like hers. Because of your channel, I can, in a way, have her back for a while, and gain some closure. Thank you for being brave enough to share who you are. Thank you for being a beautiful soul. Thank you for simply being you, and helping heal my heart when hers couldn’t be. I hope you find many happy moments in your every day.💖
Melanie I’m soooo proud of you! When I first started watching you, just one of those boxes would have taken you the whole video, but you are flying through them now. You’ve come such a long way and are doing great!
I am in a decluttering slump right now 😞 but I try to do a little every now and then and I don’t bring in as much. I also remember what you say at the end of every video: get rid of something today! Slowly but surely! Also I never heard about decluttering the way you approached it with Tony Robbins. Thank you!
I really hope that after the re-scheduled yard sale, you can donate whatever is leftover, instead of bringing it back in. I know you really enjoy the sales. But emptying 20 bins out of your basement would be amazing!!! And then you could absolutely do your craft table. The quality of your life would be better! ❤
Yes, that is what I have done in past yard sales: I normally post on my Facebook Giving Page first that people can pick up anything for free, then drop off the leftovers at Goodwill!
I put up a shelf above my desk and have my 80s Rainbow Brite doll, 5 my little ponies, and MC Hammer Ken doll on display. It’s nice having the really special pieces on display. It would be so cool if your craft space had an Elder Millenial memorabilia display area too!
Maybe that shadow box shelf could go over the catchall shelf in your laundry room and you could put your ponies on it so you can see them all the time. I have a tiny niknak shelf with mini things I love in my itty bitty laundry room. I love seeing it every time I wash clothes
When your craft space is finished, maybe do a kon mari on your sentimentals and then create a huge and beautiful display of what is left and a blanket or teddy for down here for all the sentimental fabrics
When you plan the basement reveal video, consider showing us and yourself what it looked like at the beginning of the year! You have made alot of progress!
Yes! You could turn it towards the play area, or maybe a TV, and have the craft storage against the wall behind you, and you can turn around to get it!
Yes, you are doing great! Don't worry about the churned pile, it's awesome that you have been able to empty the storage locker. Now you know what you have and can easily reach and declutter more from it. Looking forward to see your yard sale and the crafting area! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I am really proud of you and hope you are too. You are such a loving person and I think ur purpose in life, or maybe ONE purpose is to make someones life a litter bit better - with this chanel. Even tho i am not a hoarder I enjoy very much ur progress and to learn more about it.
August 2024. We all have memories. Certain songs are special. A picture is special. I'm mentally ill and will always need meds. But I need to feel I've made a contribution to my community every day. I volunteer at many places. You do good for your family and community. Be well. Tina, Al's wife
That pile is unbelievable. Delighted you are still bringing stuff and sorting through stuff from the storage unit, well done 👏 Mother Nature has a different plan to you. Hope you are all safe and well. Yes I’d love an update on the basement even if you haven’t had the yard sale yet. Miss Pepper is such a wonderful companion. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏💪👍🤞🙏💐🐈🦄
I feel a lot of people think that hording is being lazy or dirty, but I agree with you it is someone's mind set and sadly in the programmes I watch the people have had some kind of trauma to adjust their way of thinking. Helpers can come in and clear out their homes but until the person can come to terms with their illness the horde is just going to return. You must have to be very strong to conquer it. You are doing so well.
Past couple Saturday afternoons I have been helping my mom out finding toys her grandkids had out grown to bring them to my brother or donate/trash. Also, helping with tossing out trash etc. My dad doesn't move so good anymore. I was going to help him clean out a shed but he changed his mind. He also has a storage unit he wants to get rid of but still can't let go. Let me thank you for your son's future you are taking steps now.
The tap shoes made me smile. I don't know which of the many house moves mine got lost in, but I loved to tap dance as a kid. Ballet was never for me, but tap was fast and noisy and fun!
I keep laughing, with love, at the desk pieces piled on top of each other in the thumbnail. My husband had that L-desk set for years until it started to warp under the weight of his computer. When he upgraded I took one of the desk pieces for my office. Kept that piece for years until I upgraded my office to an actual desk (not just a piece). I had to fight the urge to try and see if i could continue to save and repurpose that old L desk piece. Edit: Oh, that L-desk would make a great craft table! Enjoy it!
You’re doing wonderfully! You mentioned how you’re churning into this area from others. It may be helpful to see the progress in your storage units as well to get an accurate picture of just how much overall progress you’re making.
Looking forward to seeing you set up the craft centre! 🥳🎨🦄So sorry your yard sale got rained out - but now you can add more decluttered items to the sale when you have it in a week or two! Hope the storm is over quickly and you and your loved ones stay safe.
You are doing such a great job! I hope that you are able to see the progress that this is making in your shed, garage, and storage areas as well since you seem to be decluttering those via the basement. You've now decluttered quite a bit that wasn't actually being stored in the basement for very long. I'm looking forward to seeing your craft area whenever you are able to put it together.
Is there space in the garage for yard sale bits? I’m thinking that then it’s upstairs ready to go, and it might be a good way to clear out the basement until the next yard sale is possible. It would mean every time you cleared out a box for yard sale you took it straight up to the garage rather than it getting lost in the basement?
I’m wondering if in the future, after your sale, instead of saving stuff up for another sale, that in the future take it to the donation site when you have a full bag or box. Maybe once you see your basement free of all the yard sale tubs, you might want to keep it clear of them.
You are doing so well - I think I remember you saying that you planned to completely finish the basement this year - are you still on track to do that?? Huge congratulations on all that you have achieved so far 😊 xx
Perhaps you could start a bin for occasional dishes, since the China your Mother gave you is in the blue boxes and the champagne glasses are a wedding gift. Consider using the dishes and the champagne glasses at a special diner, i.e. Mother's Day. that way you use them but they are not taking up limited space in the kitchen. Best wishes. You might also consider bins for alternate home decor, non-seasonal where you switch out lamps, etc, similar to shopping, but in your basement. Just a thought.
Ms Heart, I want to say you are doing amazingly well with your decluttering this year. I am so proud of you that you are truly beginning to rethink the emotional emphasis you have placed on the items contained in your basement from years past, and also that you are starting to free yourself from constantly churning your hoard. I love how you are embracing clean and empty spaces in your home too. However, I personally believe, that only when you are at the point of allowing yourself to disconnect from the over-emotion you place on your items, and also the need to remain so connected to your childhood trauma; will you finally be able to detach from keeping as many things as you do; and that part of the process is perhaps far harder for you than the actual decluttering process itself.
Congratulations on the big "tossy toss" pile. Maybe the storm is good, you'll find more things for the yard sale. Glad you are going to use your wedding gift champagne glasses!
Just keep going! I can't wait to see that office table set up as a craft/ office space for yourself down in the basement! Can you set up an area for yourself at this time like you did the play area for your kids? 💜
you did a great job in this video and had great commentary as usual! can't wait to see your next video and eventual progress video, hope the weather gets better soon enough to host it.
Great job, and a huge high 5 for emptying your storage unit! That's such a big deal! I'm so excited for you to start pulling together your craft area after you have your yard sale. I love that you realized you could repurpose that desk to use in it.
Oh my God. I had that same Megara plate all through my childhood lol I don't know when it finally disappeared, but it was used far longer than it should have been! 😂😂😂
So much progress today. Great job. Love to see and hear your story and how you are able to make a mind shift that enables you to work your plan for the basement.
I was actually feeling anxiety seeing the huge tossy, tossy pile you have than your area that you were working on. After decluttering for awhile, clutter makes me uneasy. Keep up the good work. I have cleaned two medicine cabinets as I can. It has taken me two weeks due to lufe just happening. It's okay though it's progress. Better than it was.
I’m so happy you added more boxes to clean up the area. But I’m even more excited you kept that lamp. It’s sooo adorable I could’ve sworn I wanted one back in the 90’s lol!!

Oof! Y'all are gonna hate me 😂 I have all of my sentimentals in two I guess medium sized bags that housed sheet sets. Everything that's in there, I love. One is filled with cat beanie babies and small teddy bears. The other one is filled with cards and pictures and such. If I had a fire or had to up and leave (emergency move, done that before), I'm set. I don't want anything more than what I have!
It’s crazy how small of an area you do but leaves a big difference
I can't wait to see the garage sale video of all the things laid out and the video of the space afterwards, that's going to be amazing.

You just need to forget about the yard sales and just donate the items; you will never get the basement done if you keep holding off for good weather.
She’s already done quite a few! It helps her let go of more things and she commits to holding them so it’s not stopping her decluttering
@@emmcguire94 I have been watching this basement decluttering for over a year; it should be completed already.
Instead of having a yard sale, why don't you just donate everything and help somebody in need that can't afford to buy it
