This video is proof that I have issues with letting go. So much stuff I wouldn’t throw away and she is doing it; amazing, she really has come a long way. 👏 🎉❤
I'm sorry to hear about the comment. It shows a lack of knowledge that many people have. I love how you stay positive and keep educating people. You came so far allready! You can be really proud. 😊
My housemate and I are struggling a bit wiTXth this and, now that her baby has arrived, we need to get a handle on it fast. Finding your channel and hearing your explanation was exactly what I needed. Thank you do much for sharing this with us!
My kids are now 31 and 33 and I am just now going through their school work from Elementary and High School and tossing some of it, but I am sure I will need to go through it again and let more go because I know they don't want it, but it makes me happy so I am keeping it for now. We are planning on moving in about 5 years (when I retire) so we will definitely not want to take everything I currently have with us, that will be "not so fun" days of packing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, experiences, and struggles, and journey!!!
Dear Mrs. Heart, I feel sorry for you over this comment. Let me assure you, I couldn’t get the job done any faster, and I am not a hoarder - the sheer amount of stuff requires time! Also, trying to declutter in a sustainable manner as you do, takes much more time than just throwing everything into the trash. But I admire you a lot for this, I appreciate how much you consider the environment and also think about people who may benefit from the items. This is not a sprint, it is an ultra marathon and you do it at the perfect speed. We cheer you on!
You took on the hardest task which was to organize a massive volume of things instead of throwing everything away and facing worse trauma. You are not only fighting a difficult battle but you are recording it all for everyone to go on the journey with you. I've followed you for years. You help me stay motivated. You help a lot of people and you've been making videos for quite a while. The sheer amount of time you have put in should be celebrated not shamed. I'm so glad you stepped back and realized that that woman didn't really know the depth of what she was saying. She is ignorant and that's okay. Not everyone understands or ever experiences hoarding disorder. They can't appreciate your journey or how incredible it is that you've helped yourself heal so much. To me you are a hero. Idk why but I really want to see you finish that middle section! Haha
Above everything else I admire you for your consistency. I cannot imagine myself taking an emotional challenge like you are doing decluttering the basement again and again and again, every week. You are doing such a good job!❤
What a wonderful analogy comparing depression to hoarding disorder! I love how you try to help everyone understand this as a mental disorder, and not a personality trait.
Omg if this woman had a clue of all your achievements on this journey she would be eating her words. She has no idea of your generosity, kindness, encouragement and motivation for me and so many others. You have opened your house, your heart and shown your vulnerabilities to us all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being you. Have a great weekend. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏💪👍💐🙏🐈🦄❤️
I know not everyone understands hoarding disorder but it’s like asking why someone doesn’t look like Schwarzenegger after going to the gym every week for a year. They will most likely have made excellent progress but muscles have to be strengthened- just like decluttering muscles

The women’s comment to you about how long it was taking was very insensitive. But you are working through the hurt very well. People will say things, but that doesn’t change your fantastic healing. An experience like that just provides more growth opportunity for you! Well done Melanie!
I get that with my depression and anxiety because I look 'normal' people think that I am but as it's a mental order people can't see and can't understand how you're feeling on the inside
I hope you will take the comment and turn it around to be a reminder that are providing a very much-needed voice for those who deal with hoarding disorder.
So true! You have taught me about hoarding disorder in a way that I did not previously understand and I love learning and witnessing your awesome and compassionate journey! You rock!
OMG, people that comment about other people's houses and conditions always infuriate me!!! Take as much time as you want and those comments are way behind you. I am glad that you are stepping back from these obnoxious comments ( these people may lack empathy as well)
Miss Heart, I admire you for being more open-minded with the comment that you have received. I can truly understand that the comment was completely upsetting but you took it as how you see where the person is coming at. We're here to cheer you on in in your journey and progress, and I want you to be proud we're you're at right now, compared when I first saw you on YT few years ago, you already doing an awesome job! 💖💐🦄
Funny the comparison with depression. It actually happened to me. I talked to some one about being depressed. A few weeks later I spoke to him again and he asked " Are you still depressed? Are you still not over that?"😏smh
Hi, maybe you already planned to do this, and even mentioned it in other videos, but it would be great to build shelves around the basement? Garage? like the one you already have so all the bins can be off the floor. Later on in the future as you delcutter and see you no longer see that many bins, you can turn the space into a functional craft room.
I’m a hoarder. I do work through stuff but it comes back. Should I do as you have and make videos? I think your fantastic success is based on having a loving audience. Love from Australia xxx
One of my best friends asks questions like. "You are working in your bedroom again, what kind of stuff is still in there?!" Those comments/questions are shaming. It isn't that they do not care or are trying to be rude, hurtful or dense. They just do not understand. She also has no kids.
I am the keeper of my Grandson's memories. I kept each and every paper and project ...He is 14. During the month of July I am going through each and every bin of papers. I will take pictures of some of his samples of handwriting, math work, science work etc. for each grade level making them into a collage for his scrapbook album. When the pictures come back I then toss those papers. I have been taking pictures of him holding his art work so a few can be framed and others tossed.
Thank you for being you! I didn't think I was a hoarder, but I really needed to declutter because I'm bipolar and don't have that much energy after work most of the time. Watching you I realised I have a lot of emotional hoarded stuff. Thank you for inspiring me to tackle it bit by bit. Started following you at Easter, getting stuff done. My flat is 700 square feet so it's getting easier to breathe.
You are the most kind hearted, empathetic person I have met on you tube. Miss Heart your wonderful explanations and hard work in showing us all the steps you need to overcome a disorder that was years in the making is my inspiration to overcome my “bad days”. I hold on to things in my craft room as everything is a possibility. I needed to declutter and it was hard, but your gentle kind voice was in my head and before I knew it I made progress! I do understand your struggles and I am heartened and encouraged every time I view your videos. ❤❤❤❤
That is so true. Whenever I'm struggling declutering or with an overwhelming task. I tell myself the kind words that Ms Heart shares with us. I have learned to encourage myself and it is effective.
Yep, a hoard takes years to amass, so of course it's gonna take more time to reduce it! You can't just snap your fingers and it's done like Mary Poppins.
That woman might be able to rip through decluttering over a week, just tossing everything without a care. Many, many people take YEARS to declutter, if they can do it at all. You are in fact doing it, which is success. So what if it takes longer. You are getting quicker as you heal, and getting to where you recognize tossies, putting like with like, and getting organization going which will serve you well in the future. Your sharing your thought process is helpful to others, and gives hope to those who share the same struggles or do not know where to start. Thank you!
Maybe something to get the excited about decluttering some of their stuff is to have a goal to get their spaces (play area/bedroom) put back together by a certain day then throw a little family party! I love buying party supplies and something that has helped me is to buy some relatively affordable consumables. For just your family you could get a few themed cupcakes or something and you wouldn't actually be bringing in anything new that would stay. You would still get a reward and the boys would get a great summer memory. I'm planning my 22nd birthday and I'm going to use things I have and really just buy a cake and cheese board stuff🥰
Ooh cannot wait to see the kids school stuff and art declutter. My mom saved all my artwork from when I was a kid by throwing it in xerox boxes in the attic. At my job we buy lots of cotton balls in bulk and have 11x14 flat-ish plastic bags leftover. They were amazing for storing what I wanted to keep in a tidy way and they got filed into a bin vertically. Soooo much school artwork went into the trash. So many work sheets and so on. Lots of cute things that I drew in my free time as a small child stayed; drawing of my family and animals etc. Basement is looking great! Nice job
Thanks for the motivation. Also for letting us know it is alright to feel hurt when someone inadvertently says thing about something they do not understand. Everyone has some area of their life they struggle with, we need to keep kindness and compassions in mind when reacting to any comment that seems rude or mean. Thanks for all that you do and for keeping me encouraged to keep on going.
You just keep being you. You are the person you need to impress give a pat on the back along with all who have been there. You are an inspiration! Many thanks and much love.💖
I love to see how not only do you give yourself grace, but you also gave that woman grace that made the comment. Such a great message to give to the world. ❤ you are inspiring.
Honestly you are so nice to be making excuses for that woman. Whether or not she understands hoarding disorder, it is never called for to be judgemental or passive aggressive with your acquaintances or neighbours. She was clearly using it as an opportunity to feel superior. Even if she thought those things she should have just smiled and nodded and moved on, as one does in polite society. That’s such a trashy comment for her to have made.
I'm sure she didn't mean it in a bad way, but I can see why it hurts. You just keep chugging along like you are doing with the help of Peppy and you will get there!
You are a great encouragement to many, not only with hoarding disorder, but with any addiction because baby steps are a way to improve in any area. Your kind heart shows in how you were very understanding of the person who was unkind to you. I pray they and others will learn more understanding of their fellow humans.
PTSD due to domestic abuse is similar. But its a feeling of being overwhelmed and fighting fear of something triggering past abuse. Also depression and physical health problems make decluttering take a long time months years. Try to do a little every day except on bad days.
What a great example of turning a hurtful comment into a time of reflection and creating a teachable moment for so many other people. You are doing amazing things!!
I’m glad you shared your experience. Reframing it in the context of mental health was really helpful. I have other struggles where things are just taking a long time and it helped me to understand that it’s not because I’m not working hard enough, it’s just a bigger, more complicated challenge for me.
I’ve had depression for years and many people do think the same. « You’re still depressed, but why ? Why are the meds not working ? Is your psychiatrist bad at his job ? » it’s discouraging and we feel ashamed and might not want to share anymore
You are doing amazingly. You also have to battle against things.coming into the house. Things you organise to give to others. And you generously give your time to help others which gives you even more to organise..
I've been subscribed since you first started, but I took a long break from YT. I watched ONE of your videos last week, and it motivated me to start cleaning in each container in my basement. I've done 3 of my big tubs so far. Thank you for posting!
Oh that lady is not a friend, there’s a reason you didn’t see her in a year and I do think she knew better. My outside perspective. And your family wouldn’t question you like that and the people out here that you help aren’t either. ❤ when my feelings have been hurt, and not just because I’m sensitive, I just think “whew I’m so grateful I don’t go home to someone like this”
I know you want to wait on your kids to declutter the play area, maybe you can move like with like together to give them a head start. Throw out trash, but organize the toys so it’s not as overwhelming to declutter in a clean space. You’re doing so wonderfully! I’m so proud of how far you’ve come!!
I’ve been going through my things recently and decluttering little by little, and it is so hard! Especially if I feel confident letting go of something one day, but change my mind because of the emotional attachment the next. Thank you for your videos, I look forward to them every week! 💜
Wonderful job--every time! Hopefully, you were able to educate the person on how far you've come and how you still struggle. I'm encouraged with every video to just pick a section and start. Thanks!
I wonder if she was like me where as a stay at home I have more time on my hands for projects and also a year actually seems much longer when youre not working, raising children, and being miss heart. Try to keep in mind, its not necessarily that anyones rushing you, we're all just excited as we watch overcome your hoarding and love seeing you reclaim your home.
Great job on your outlook on the situation. So true!! Most people seem to find it hard to relate to anything someone is going through until they have actually experienced it themselves. In one way, you can’t blame them that’s the way people are….unfortunately not everyone is empathetic to what others are feeling. The good thing you realize is that what someone else’s thoughts about you and how you deal with things….has no reflection on you. It’s their thing to deal with. You are doing amazing! So proud of you and your accomplishments! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥰🫶🏻
I know that feeling!!!! It's been 3 years of me trying to face my thesis and to finally write and finish it. I have paid people to look after me to finish it but I'm a top notch procrastinator and I can give you a 100% logical excuse to not work on it each day. Last year I started the year making some progress and I was asked to share it with a professor. No real pressure, I just knew I had to sent it to him. Anyway, it must have past three months until I really told myself: hey, you have to send it but I was ashamed of doing it because I had made little progress. Take into account that the professor told me that it didn't matter if it was an incomplete draft version, he just wanted to have an idea of what I was writting. I told my friend about my inner conflicts and she replied: You have not finished? That was several months ago. I was broken inside. I think I cried several days a week during several weeks after that. Of course. that brought more wilt and shame to my procrastination and it took me even longer to send the draft, still incomplete. I have grown stronger and this year I started taking baby steps with another friend who is also writing her thesis. I love your videos because you encourage me to be persistent. A task might take us ten times longer that it would take others but we want to achieve it. Because we know that we could stay in the shame and do nothing for 10 years, but we have now chosen to change our life little and little. And you know what? Is happening. Things are changing, we have grown, we are stronger and we are working faster and are happier because we now actually believe that we can and will achieve our objectives. Thank you for putting yourself out there and inspiring so many of us.
You are not alone. I also struggle to start working on my thesis with procrastination and bad mental and physical health and other stuff. I’m ashamed at my lack of progress and then comes the anxiety and depression paralysis. Rinse and repeat. We need to break the cycle. I never do this but do you want an accountability buddy ?
@@kiki5671 Getting an accountability partner was a game changer for me. We both have the same struggles and I have made so much progress this year. I truly believe that I will finish this week. Once I opened up about my struggles, all of them, I started finding people who had similar issues and I learned to communicate the type of help I needed to my family, friends and colleagues. Hope you get an accountability partner soon, is very encouraging.
I’ve been on a journey to minimalism since 2020. I have a full time job, life, and a hubby that likes his stuff. These videos help me because the process to a more minimal life, has been a journey. As much as I appreciate the declutter your life in a weekend videos, that’s just not a reality for us. I’ve decluttered right along with you. I’ve taken a lot of breaks, lived my life, and enjoyed family time. I do what I can and continue to move forward. I’m so thankful you decided shared your journey with us! These videos are true motivation for me to keep on going…and to buy less! I love seeing your progress! You have done so much!! ❤❤❤ best wishes from Indiana!
I had a similar situation with candy. I went through all of my possessions in the basement of my apartment complex during COVID in 2020. I found probably two whole grocery bags of old candy and food that I never unpacked when I first moved in 2018. I felt so guilty throwing out so much food. However, I had to forgive myself because I couldn't change the past. Instead, I now try really hard to never pack away consumables; they get eaten and enjoyed!
I'm with you on the comment. I've been cleaning out my house after having a collectibles business for 22 years. I started in 2021 and I'm just now starting to see progress. I made it a practice never to buy anything I didn't love in case I couldn't sell it - well, you probably can guess the rest!
Sometimes, I am thankful we don't have recycling available to us where I live. I do try to recycle my plastic bags and aluminum cans, but if I had to decide between trash and recycle, it would jam me up so bad... that sounds crazy, but it would happen.
The really sad thing is, she (the women at the pool) doesn’t watch The Hoarder’s Heart. If she did she would have known how far you have come! Keep up that GREAT job.😊
You are doing a good job decluttering...continued on trucking down the good road. Thanks for the weekly declutter inspiration for us all. Love seeing Pepper inspecting everything.
I just wanted to show support and wish you the best. I have been decluttering for the past three years slowly in different phases. The fist thing is to look at what you have, sort through it and eventually let it go if you don’t immediately. I sometimes get frustrated and make drastic cuts and let go of stuff fast. I rarely miss the stuff because I forget about it. I am in the process of tacking tools and clothes but more focused on organizing and finding a permanent place for everything. I feel overwhelmed when i think about the stuff around me but I tackle it on slowly in sections. I end up freeing myself and mentally able to pursue new goals when I can see I’ve made an impact. However, I have been through sorting that takes a long time and doesn’t seem to show progress. My advice to any one is to not let it get you down and to celebrate your effort, you will get there slowly but surely.
You’ve been helping me so much over the last year. I’ve made so much progress in my own basement. I love that you go through each thing with thought and care. It’s time consuming but I’m sure it feels so good!
I love how you make it into a game and talk yourself through the process with such a calmed voice. I am so happy to have found your channel. Big fan here 😁 Your videos are gold! 🎉
Given the size of your task, you're making good time on your journey. I say this as someone who took about a decade to declutter a house that had only an ordinary level of clutter in it. A lot of us struggle with why we're decluttering, and find it hard to justify adding another huge task to work on every week. So most of us stick a "donate box" in a corner and toss things in now and then, making very little progress at all. It's only when we realize we have an urgent need to declutter, that we can get it done quickly. Faced with a task the same size as yours, many of us would have made much less progress than you have. Your ability to work on this so consistently, and keep yourself on task, is highly inspirational. Have you reached a point yet where every bit of progress feels rewarding? May I suggest that starting to set up your craft area will help you get to that point? In the meantime, my best advice is to celebrate every little step you take. I used to first do a little dance to celebrate, and then I'd drag my husband over to admire the newly decluttered drawer. I'm sure there were plenty of times he couldn't tell the difference (he's not terribly observant) but he always made sure to admire my progress.
November 2024. Near Chicago, there's our first snowstorm today. I went through my scrapbook papers and found a stack for the local seniors' craft group. There's a stack of magazines for the library and a few for my daughter in law. My daughter has ADHD, she sorts differently from me, but she did get rid of stuff. Tina, Al's wife
BTW, I'm on antidepressants and have been for years. People who have never been clinically depressed don't "get it". Luckily, I take my meds, journal, and know enough to tell my psychiatrist when my meds need adjustment. Some people don't have insight. Tina, Al's wife
This video is proof that I have issues with letting go. So much stuff I wouldn’t throw away and she is doing it; amazing, she really has come a long way. 👏 🎉❤

Some people just don’t get it. You have and are doing a fantastic job, keep it up ! ❤️🤗♥️🌹We love you 😊
I'm sure she didn't mean it in a bad way, but I can see why it hurts.
So much truth in your message my friend, thank you for sharing this us ❤️🙏🏼❤️
Your validating comments are applicable for more than just hoarding. Thanks for sharing and helping so many!
You are doing great! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for spending time decluttering with me. I put plastic eggs in the tossy tossy pile and hung up some seasonal clothing on the rack!
Way to go!
@eavening4149 thanks! I figure I took all that stuff downstairs one bag at a time, so I'm going to get it out obe bag at a time.
I've been subscribed since you first started, but I took a long break from YT. I watched ONE of your videos last week, and it motivated me to start cleaning in each container in my basement. I've done 3 of my big tubs so far. Thank you for posting!
U sound so much stronger. Good job. God Bless
Keep it up! You are almost there!
As long as there is progress, it does not matter how long it takes. Once you stoop or start loosing the progress, there is a problem.
I love your explanation and teaching about hoarding disorder. It helps me have compassion and understanding of my self and others
This was amazing 🎉❤
Oh that lady is not a friend, there’s a reason you didn’t see her in a year and I do think she knew better. My outside perspective. And your family wouldn’t question you like that and the people out here that you help aren’t either. ❤ when my feelings have been hurt, and not just because I’m sensitive, I just think “whew I’m so grateful I don’t go home to someone like this”
Fantastic 🎉job congratulations so inspiring 💜🦄
I know you want to wait on your kids to declutter the play area, maybe you can move like with like together to give them a head start. Throw out trash, but organize the toys so it’s not as overwhelming to declutter in a clean space. You’re doing so wonderfully! I’m so proud of how far you’ve come!!
you did an awesome job.
I’ve been going through my things recently and decluttering little by little, and it is so hard! Especially if I feel confident letting go of something one day, but change my mind because of the emotional attachment the next. Thank you for your videos, I look forward to them every week! 💜
Good progress🙂
You are doing fantastic cleaning out your basement ❤
Wonderful job--every time! Hopefully, you were able to educate the person on how far you've come and how you still struggle. I'm encouraged with every video to just pick a section and start. Thanks!
That lady needs to remember that she. Is. Not. You. You have done amazing, it takes the time that it takes. 💖💖
❤❤❤ You are always an inspiration! Keep up the amazing work!
Commenting before watching to help the algorithm. Always love your Friday videos. Hope you have an awesome weekend. 💖
You are so sweet 😍😍 Thank you for that ✨✨✨
Yes you did get rid of a lot of stuff. You just keep on improving. Great job!!
Great job on the decluttering
What a fantastic video👏👏👏
Thank you for sharing, teaching and inspiring us to be the best that we can be🥰. ❤️😀
Keep up that GREAT job.😊
i hope that you are getting what you want this year. And yes it takes a while but that is okay you are doing it. i am so proud on you. big hug Ellen
You are doing a good job decluttering...continued on trucking down the good road. Thanks for the weekly declutter inspiration for us all. Love seeing Pepper inspecting everything.
you are doing amazing! ❤
As always motovating and heart warming. ❤
I always look forward to watching your video every Friday. Keep up with the good work.
You are doing great!! Keep up the amazing progress!! 👏🎉👍👍
Great video! Starting on my basement this summer and hoping to purge 80%.
You’ve been helping me so much over the last year. I’ve made so much progress in my own basement. I love that you go through each thing with thought and care. It’s time consuming but I’m sure it feels so good!
Wow!! That is a huge tossy tossy pile!! ❤️ keep up the great work!
I love how you make it into a game and talk yourself through the process with such a calmed voice. I am so happy to have found your channel. Big fan here 😁 Your videos are gold! 🎉
Your doing such an amazing job 👏 very inspiring to watch ❤
I have been decluttering for a while also. Thank you so much for inspiring me to keep on going! Paper and crafts left.

BTW, I'm on antidepressants and have been for years. People who have never been clinically depressed don't "get it". Luckily, I take my meds, journal, and know enough to tell my psychiatrist when my meds need adjustment. Some people don't have insight. Tina, Al's wife
😉👍❤
I will ask my kids to go through all the school projects instead of me so they can keep what is really important to them
