    something I enjoy in DDL interviews is that he realizes that the (very sincere) things he says can sound very pretentious so he cautiously says them with some shyness, but still gets it out

      Would also have liked a little more focus on Grant. Liberals need to revive his reputation. He failed as a President basically because of his lack of political skills, but he remained one of the greatest figures in the world between 1865 and 1885. His funeral parade in NYC remains the greatest in American history. As immense as Churchill
      ’s in London in 1965/

  • @Cyberlucy
    @Cyberlucy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    What most people don't realize is that not only does DDL in costume bear a remarkable resemblance to Lincoln, but David Strathairn is amazingly like the character he plays, Seward. He brings to live the figure Kerns wrote about. It would be interesting to see him do a bio pic of Seward.

    • @danthomas8428
      @danthomas8428 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +cyberlucy William H. Seward is probably one of the most underrated American political figures in history. At the 1860 Republican National Convention, Seward was actually the front runner for the Nomination. Despite losing the nomination Seward went on the serve as Lincoln's Secretary of State as well as his successor's Andrew Johnson. Today I doubt many people will know who he is.

    • @XxowendanxX
      @XxowendanxX 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i was distracted with him in that role...he kept reminding me of Pierce Patchett, the eccentric heroin-sniffing millionaire from L.A. Confidential. I felt like Secretary of State Seward had a part time job running whores that were cut to look like movie stars.

    DDL is in a far more superior league to Bale, Gosling or Cooper. They would need to seriously up their game if they were to going to act opposite him. I can tell you for a fact that Cooper would kiss DDL's ass throughout production. In interviews he goes on about how he thinks DDL is the best actor etc. From an actors standpoint, he's infatuated with DDL

    It's a little exaggerated imo, but I'll still say I agree for the sake of argument. Although you might not've meant to imply I said this, still I wanna point out I never meant to say Bale was as good as DDL is. All I was saying is that I'd really like for them to work together on something. Regardless of how lonely the peak DDL is at might be, Bale is still a brilliant actor in his own right as far as I'm concerned.

      Hardly anyone in the audience knew anything about Seward the man. A much overlooked political figure. Down played because he took Johnson’s side, Nearly died from the assassination attempt that night. Hd he been untouched he probably would have saved Johnson from many mistakes in the summer and fall of 1865.

  • @Silrian777

    1 Bale has an oscar.
    2 He should've has two already.
    3 Gary fucking Oldman DOESN'T have an Oscar (Oscars say little).
    4 You're obviously not familiar with Bale's body of work.
    5 Many actors he's worked with including some of the greatest have praised him exceptionally, as have done director's.
    Bale is one of the best actor's of his generation, and if you disagree you're probably going to end up in the vast minority on that one. Do with that what you will.

  • @Silrian777
    @Silrian777 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Or do yourself a favor and go watch The Machinist, The Prestige, The Fighter, Rescue Dawn, American Psycho and even Empire of the Sun.
    Actually, his portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman was a great level of acting itself. But of course, you might be one of those narrow minded people who can't look past an unconventional outfit.
    Bale's making his second film with both Terrence Malick and David O. Russell - but of course, their judgement of actors is probably terrible... Silly me.

    So haven't ALL other actors who work opposite DDL. I guess that means DDL can never act opposite anybody anymore.
    I never said Bale was as good as DDL is. But to call Bale an average actor, that's a statement you're gonna find opposition to with many, many great filmmakers and actors. Bale's Oscar is the final proof of that.
    Have your opinion, I don't care. I'm gonna care about the opinion of professionals, and most of all what I myself see, which is one of the best actors of his generation.

    His portrayal of batman could have been played the same by an 8 year old with a dumb voice. In fact, Heath Ledger made Bale look like an amateur in the Dark Knight. You could really see the difference between average and great acting. No matter how you spin it, he's not on Lewis' level. Bale has never played ANY role as challenging and controversial as Daniel's portrayal of Brown in my left foot. Bale has never played an iconic role like Lincoln.
