Thank you so much for this video. The information on Tascam web instructions is not clear.... they never showed where to put that file, and also never mentioned that need to be UNZIPPED. So THANK YOU! So after downloading, unzip the file and copy the file to the UTILITY FOLDER... which they never mention. Thanks again! >
My understanding is that only song information is recorded on the SD card. Firmware would be stored on the system components themselves. Just like a BIOS on a computer. So a SD card wouldn't be required for the update. But I haven't tried it, so I can say with 100% certainty. If an SD card needed to be there for the update, then the system would give you an error message that the SD card is missing. So it doesn't hurt to try. You won't break anything.
You can always take the SD card out of the Model 12 and copy it over to the mac. I routinely do this with single channel recordings. But I you can do the same with multi-track recordings as well. The files will be labeled sequentially (xxx_TR01.wav, xxx_TR02.wav, etc.) Just pull them all into a DAW and you can play with them there. Alternatively, you can record the stereo track on 11/12 and move that over instead. But there should be a direct way to connect the Model 12 with your Mac. I'm Windows only, so I can't help you with that. Maybe some that reads your comment can?
So what does this do exactly??? I'm new to digital recording. Until now I've been 100% analog except for when I would burn music to a CD or upload to Bandcamp or something...
In a nutshell, it allows you to record several things at once or at different times. Your intro video on your TH-cam channel would be a good example. You have your guitar, but with this (or any other multitrack recorder or software) you could have followed up with bass, drums, etc. playing along with your guitar and adjust the sound levels accordingly. There's a ton of videos about these - just do a search on digital recording/recorders, DAW, etc. But since you recorded a TH-cam video, that's also a digital recording 🙂 I'm guessing you've been using a Tascam cassette tape type of system? Those are excellent as well!
You might try a different card. Sometimes they just don't work. It could be the card doesn't have the capacity (in GB) or is the wrong type? Here's what the manual says (Page 10): "This unit uses SD cards for recording and playback. This unit can use SD cards that are Class 10 or higher and compatible with SD, SDHC or SDXC standards. A list of SD cards that have been confirmed for use with this unit can be found on our web site. Please access to a product page of this product from the TEAC Global Site (teac-global.com) to find the list or contact the TASCAM customer support service."
Well it ain't working for me...as usual. I followed the manual procedure step by step and this video. An open box claiming it's not connected, yet i hear the connecting sound and the Tascam F: drive pop up happens yet i get this box device not connected. I extract the file and it flies up on the top right screen in downloads instead of opening up a setup wizard. I have a 32 Ram 1TB 3.4 Gz 64 bit system and have midi keyboards, interface, i'm use to recording in Cakewalk and studio one, but i just can't update the firmware or install sound drivers on it. I just got my Model 12 this morning and just can't seem to get my windows 10 to do the same as yours does when i do the same thing. Very frustrating day. I wanted the Model 12 to get away from PC madness and just had the worst day of frustration. lol I just wish i could set it up like all interfaces i had in the past , update firmware and install drivers, but instead of a setup box opening, my screen blinks and stays there.
Stupid computers😡 Did you try to run the file that was downloaded? I always have to do the double click on those files before they do anything... you may have already tried that. There's another thing that might help with file transfers down the road is - connect the Model 12 USB cable directly into the PC, not a hub. I think it's supposed to help the PC and Model 12 communicate One thing to consider is It's not the end of the world if you don't get the firmware update done right away. Let us know how/if this gets resolved.
@@fishpotpete I got it!!! But i have no clue what i did lol. I tried everything and nothing seemed to work. So i powered off and went back a few minutes ago and started exploring the menu and came accross the information screen and the firmware that was 3.0 is now 4.1! I guess the only thing missing was just to restart the unit.
tHANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU'VE HELPED ME NUMEROUS TIMES SO I SUBBED!
Thank you!
Thank you kind Sir. Pleasure stumbling upon you in the darkness out here on The Path. Very illuminating stuff.
Thank You worked perfectly

Thank you you made it go very smooth
Great video. I will add it to my playlist.
Thanks you so much! pretty easy to follow along with Mac as well.
That's good to hear! I don't use a Mac, so I'm never sure how that translates from my PC perspective.
Thanks for the help brother
Happy to help

Thanks for the video it clears all up except do you have to have SD card inserted when doing the update?

Hey man, i get errors when i put in my SD card into the Model 12. It says: 'Invalid card/Change card'
What type of SD card do I need?

@@joelpoitras6226 Awesome!!! Congratulations 🙂
The intro music is too loud!!!
Ha! I always struggle with the intro music volume - it's either too quiet or too lound 😁 Maybe I need more compression to smooth it out a little.
Thank you ❤❤
