On one hand seeing this game without any fog is really cool. It puts in perspective how small this map really is but on the other it massively breaks the illusion of this huge open world.
Yeah, a far drawing distance is good, but this is definitely the other extreme. The ideal is a little bit of fog that is little enough to not obstruct your view, yet still gives off the illusion there's more to the world than you can see. Like how they did it in GTA 5, where you can see the edges of the map yet it doesn't feel like you're looking at the edges of the map.
The map is still huge but because of they broke the fog it looks smaller. It’s still the second largest in the series behind GTA 5. If there was no fog I’m GTA 5 it would also look kinda small. They should have a better draw distance no doubt but also add in fog like GTA 5.
Well also because IRL, especially in urban areas....air haze increases with distance, even in perfect weather. Even if the world map in GTASA is only about 12 square miles, there would still be significant distance haze as you look out towards the far reaches of the map. The guys at Grove Street who did this port clearly thought that the fog in the original SA was solely for hardware constraints. Very little artistic instropection in their thought processes
The thing is that you're NOT SUPPOSED to see such areas like Las Venturas from there. Thankfully there's a PC mod that implements fog making it look as it should.
If they didn't want fog in the city, fine, whatever. But not having fog at least on the edges of the map just make the map look like an island in the middle of the ocean.
I get it, Rockstar could've handled this all way better. But honestly? The definitive editions have made me just appreciate the original game design that much more.

The game is not, unfortunately, made by R* Games. The studio which made this Definitive Edition is called Grove Street Games. And it's the same studio that made mobile versions. And maybe, that's way the game looks not 'definitive'. 🙄🧡

(Handling is also horrible) GTA 3 Claude is missing a lot of of his subtle animations reacting to the environment. Also, GTA 3 is missing the the wind and seagull sound effects at the docks. Bring back PS2 Controls for all Minigames. (New controls for most minigames from lifting weights to pool is a downgrade) Restore reflective paint jobs to GTA 3 vehicles. Removing all the fog does more than just destroy the illusion....it eliminates all sense of distance , making the map look like a big miniature. Theres more distance haze in GTAV than there is here. You can tell this was done by ppl who didnt understand what they were doing. You dont improve visuals unilaterally by decreasing draw fog and increasing resolution. Theres more to it than that. Ill never understand how RS greenlit this for release
I bought yesterday the gta package, GTA 3 is horrible, vice city is better and nice :) but gta sa brings me back to 2004 amazing good game. Its brings me back front of the tv to play it otherwise i would never
I've never seen those view on PlayStation 4 Version and it's so great! If I knew about GTA Definitive Edition! PlayStation 4 was a great console. I thought GTA Definitive Edition on PlayStation 4 would be perfectly and it's good though, I should try it on PlayStation 4 Version.
Playing the new versions kind of disappointed me as there are graphics and features that aren't there. Like water droplets or blood on your screen in vice city. The blur when driving fast in San andreas. I'm starting to still prefer the shitty graphics
@@Denyy6 In the original game, there was a motion-blur effect once you started to go really fast and it was intense when you jumped off Chiliad. But it looks like they got rid of it for this version.
Visibility aside, this game does live up to the hype. The visuals are awesome, and RS stuck to the original, clunky physics of the original game. Loving it so far; can't wait to land the Hydra on top of the casinos again.

It doesn't look like it's that high up, looks good in some ways but like others have said it looks really small like everything is just a minute away.
