@philipmurray9796 ah gotcha, well it’s due to the looped downpipe, which the new raptors have, and SPD makes a trombone pipe for the older raptors and regular 3.5 eco guys. I have a 3.5 eco now too
I didn't make mention of it the other day but my main concern about the placement of the loop is that it seems like it would have to put more heat on the control module on the side of the transmission. It does sound fantastic, pretty much just like the trombone 3.5s. That is why I want to do it when I can.
@BoostKingMatt Ya that is in my plans too. I actually considered that before the turbos but the fact that my turbos are surely nearing thier end with the high miles, if I am going to the change, might as well do it right. Its insane hot here, going to hit 104-105 this week and thats without heat index. Sitting in traffic, long periods of idling I have seen charge air temps reach 180s. No intercooler can overcome that. Water meth would help that but if I did do it I would not be running it continuously, I would have it set up to kick in at a certain boost. I drive alot as you know, that would probably get costly using at all times. In a case such as your truck, makes perfect sense especially on track days. Some people don't understand how differently heat effects a turbo vehicle vs naturally aspirated. A naturally aspirated vehicle sucks already hot air through a short tube rapidly, if the tube and intake is super hot, the charge air doesn't have nearly as much time to be heated up even more. Our trucks have probably 10 or 12 feet of tubing under the hood and that tubing is hot, plus traveling through hot turbos. That is astronomically more time for the air to be heated up before it goes into the combustion chamber. The only way to combat that is either a complete, long cool down before making a pass or a long drive keeping continuous air flowing through the tubing keeping the tubing from becoming so hot. Neither is feasible and one is impossible on track day. Water meth is basically the only solution for our trucks.
@@lil2.74 yeah. I will run it like you’re saying, having it kick in at a certain boost level. But not tune for it (in other words, increase timing, I would want to leave timing normal that way if it fails, the engine doesn’t grenade)
The same principle can be accomplished with the trombone mid pipe and removing the y pipe from the downpipe which has been in my plans but not in the near future. I really like how it sounds on the 3.5 trucks. Makes it sound more like the Ford GT.
I'm sorry but it doesn't sound like a truuck at all. If you close your eyes, people are going to see a beautiful truck driving down the road that sounds like a freaking Honda Civic. Mind you, not knocking the V6 engine as I have one in my Ram Rebel, but just put an excellent quality intake on it and you'll get your V8 sounds without the exhaust
Sounds like my neighbors Ridgeline when the exhaust broke at the mid-pipe. Looks like you spent more money on clamps then a cheap inverter welder off Amazon.
It’s never going to sound like a v8. So there’s no point in trying to make it sound like one. Gotta just embrace it, and acquire the taste for the Ecoboost sound. However this exhaust sounds like an Infiniti as opposed to a grand national or something.
😢 the rasp🤮….. I recommend putting the longest 3” resonator mbrp makes to kills the rasp as much as possible and it will deepen the tone as well, The muffler isn’t needed. I’ve got the 3.5 with the mbrp res. and straight piped out back, under bridge full throttle is always a thrill. Props on the install. Idle sounds great.
@@BoostKingMatt this makes no sense. If you bought a Coyote, and put the same amount of money in it, it would blow the 2.7 away… I agree it’s a good engine, but you don’t buy it strictly for performance; there are better options.
@MistrZIGZAG I do not agree. 4000$ on turbos and a few other mods that yields 500 wheel horsepower would not do the same on a 5.0. You need a supercharger to make 500+ wheel. That’s about 10k. Plus, if I wanted a coyote I would have bought one. I didn’t want one. I like my twin turbo v6. Per liter, it makes more horsepower than a stock coyote engine could make per liter without blowing up.
@@BoostKingMatt here’s a forum post disproving your theory. “So my local speed shop has agreed to sponsor a single turbo build. He says it would be the only one in Florida or the states (which I seem hard to believe). I always thought that you install superchargers on domestics and turbos on imports. Well after doing some researching, my latter statement is as cliché as they come. From what others are telling me, Turbos are cleaner, safer, and able to provide much more power. The shop thinks a turbo setup on a 2011 5.0 would produce as much as 800hp. Whether that is single or dual setup I don't know, because I didn't give their statements much validity after the ridiculous 800 number. However, after reading more on Mustangs and Turbos, I think the number may be obtainable (in some way). The shop said my out of pocket expense would be less than $4000 out the door. This would include turbo, intercooler, headers, full exhaust, and labor. They think the best spot for the single turbo would be where the cool air induction is.”
That loop looks terrible. Your 208 guy should have made that loop using multiple pie cuts to create a smooth radius. The loop you got has a sharp point to it. And bro, it sounds like a clapped out V6 Mustang with a glasspack muffler. And soooooooo many clamps. Wow.
While pie cuts would look smoother, it takes 10x longer to do. The pinch in the middle there is because I had to cut it and move it a second time. I would like to have a set of stock downpipes to make a jig and get it just right, but Matt is 12 hours south of me and this was all done from measurements over the internet.
really???? i dont think there is anything that can be done with any of the ford 6 cylinders to make them sound good. buy a real truck with a real engine like the 5.0 coyote
That’s your opinion, and you’re entitled to your opinion. But a lot of other people would disagree. A “real” truck? Is mine fake or something? And what’s funny about the 5.0 is my truck is much much faster than a 5.0.
Yea I’m an ecoboost owner but damn do I hate one with exhaust. Welcome to the tuner scene
That actually sounds nice
Sounds great! Now I gotta come hear it in person again.
Yes you do! We had a blast last time!
here? lmaooooo wtf - hearrrr
I’m glad your happy with the sound, I wish someone would make an exhaust for the 2.7 that sounded like a V8, I’m old and just a V8 guy with a 2.7.
I hear you. Pretty hard to do that. V6 will always sound like a v6.
@@ril850 that’s your opinion. Most everyone else disagrees
Another pissed off chainsaw.
@user-rp3ev5kz2o maybe, but it is faster than most anything in its class on the road.

Yeah. I should wrap it with exhaust wrap.
@@BoostKingMatt I was thinking the same thing, that should keep the heat down.

All of these "muh V8" guys forget that one of Fords most popupar engines was an inline 6 🤣
