Had a lot of weird issues like this using SCT on the EcoBoost. I am a believer HP Tuners is the way to go for these trucks.
So I was wondering what HP now with all the mods you mentioned in this video ?
Well currently the truck is making about 68 lb/min of airflow which on e85 would equate to 700 hp. But we are on 91 octane so I’m guessing it’s about 550hp at the crank, or like 460 wheel.
Does anyone know the specs for this build?

You can!! Talk to Adam at ZFG Racing. You can do an ECU swap like I did in one of my recent videos.
Wanted to get some help on deciding on what stage of turbo to run, but I’m not 100 % into it yet, but i got all the bolt on stuff, next step is turbos. Is it safe to run a stage 4 turbo on 93, and without a HPFP ? Or would i need both to even do that. This is speaking on the 2.7s
I ran the stage 4s on my old 2.7 on 91 octane with no issues. Fueling upgrades aren’t necessary until you start increasing the octane of the fuel in the case of ethanol like e30, e50 and e85.
I’ve got both SCT and HP Tuners MPVI3 with TDN. I keep the SCT X4 since Gearhead doesn’t tune on the HP Tuners platform. But all my other stuff from ZFG, MPT, and 5 Star is through HP Tuners. I keep the X4 on the dash at all times for constant data logging. But if I want the best data logging, I’ll drag the laptop outside and use the MPVI3. Hope that HPT can do live constant data logging and gauges through TDN soon though.

Technically any tune voids warranty… if ford can prove that you tuned it.

@RoOoGr only workarounds I know of are the JB4 stuff, but that’s so dumb, you might as well get a tune. As long as you flash your truck back to stock before you take it to the dealership you’ll be fine. My truck has a warranty and I’ve voided it haha, it has upgraded turbos and tune etc. but since I do all the work on my truck and never take it to a dealer, I don’t really care.
only great way is to become good friends with the shop. like my local shop closes there eyes to all my mods but say if the motor chucks a rod they will look into the computer. even if you take the tune off i think its some cycle counter they can see was just started over.
@nickwuebben2500 that’s true. Your local shop as in ford dealership or what? Depends on the dealership I guess. My truck had aftermarket downpipes and I had a TSB warranty thing done on it and they didn’t even bat an eye. Also my truck had been tuned too.
You can also data log with the TDN app! The drive mode power level is explorer only for now... for now 😉 Agree though, the lack of live data monitoring is a big Pitfall right now that is going to be addressed at some point in time.
Yeah you can, for some reason I can only get rpm, coolant, and intake air temp to show on mine. That’ll be cool, I can’t wait to see what HP tuners can do for that. I think they just need to make a little touch screen device for either tuning and logging or just logging.
@zfgracing what about trans brake setup on trucks i think that would be sick on the raptor lol! been watching your stuff for awhile been tempted to make the switch from the my tuner that uses cobb to you.
@nickwuebben2500 bro… what are you waiting for. Get rid of that Cobb junk. Adam is a beast on HP tuners. He’s the most knowledgeable tuner I have ever dealt with.
@@BoostKingMatt the cobb has been ok and goose has treated me well, i just see so much great on zfg, he has really been killing it on the explorer st platform to and thats what the ol lady is rocking lol
@nickwuebben2500 goose is fine but he picks on Adam all the time and other tuners and he’s kinda cocky. I still say, Adam is one of the most experienced tuners out there that I’ve ever encountered.
Excellent comparison! I went with a BDX on the recommendation of Casey at BCB, but they no longer are in business. Have looked into ZFG as they are WI based but at the time they were primarily tuning fairly extreme. The BDX still works fine with the Gearhead tune, but who knows what the future holds.
Adam can tune wild or gentle, whatever you want. But yeah I hear ya.
To be fair, it's not the device that has the limit, but their strategy. If someone knew the address of the limit, one could change it in the SCT tune. As for the drive modes, that's a different can of worms that's easier discussed in DMs 🤣

Sweet vid Matt, I was really torn between these and Garretts when I did my 2012 build. With them being in Canada, and it was pandemic time, they actually told me that the shipping costs would be so high that it wouldn’t be worth it, and I should just go for Garrett. I’m guessing they have things ironed out by now. That’s so kick ass that they sent all the stickers, a hat, and whatever else….I mean who doesn’t like free advertisement?!?! @CVFabrication should get on the swag/gear wagon with these guys! Spend a few grand with them and you get a single, small, plain sticker and a link to where you can buy swag lol. Even Brew City Boost sent plaques to replace the Ecoboost door badges, and they turned out to be bankrupt thieves shutting down and stealing money that had been paid, with zero warning. Did you test the max air flow these can get? I am interested in buying them if they are still available.
I still have them. We actually were able to get 68 lb/min out of them on 20 psi even though im at a whopping 7000’ of elevation. They are a very capable turbo. Only reason for getting rid of them is because I was offered a turbo upgrade from another company.
Do you have an idea about how many lbs/min can the 41.2mm provide (max)?
The 2021+ and the 2018-2020 3.5L turbos can flow 60 lb/min

@wowcrazy70 I would say their V3 turbos are. The V4+ were very large and definitely a race application only. His V3 turbos are similar to a Stage 4 CRP turbo. I think he does slightly higher quality than CRP honestly. CRP is good too though, I like both.

Lol it's not the diameter it's the bends. You have to look at air molecules like water droplets 💦 each turn is a pile up 😅 and bumps and ridges are speed bumps

What was the wrench light ? Did it throw a code? I had the same thing happen to my truck with torries tune.
It was just an overboost code. He puts little protections on so that if it goes past his desired it throws a code and chops power and goes into limp mode

Right. I expected it to be quite restrictive in those long necks but it’s no less restrictive than the actual hot side pipe itself.
Still trying to figure out if 3.5 turbos will fit a 2.7 with some adapters or something, can’t find much online
They will not. Very different mounting design.

Does this actually add HP? Debating if I should invest in this or go with the hot/cold piping kit.
I think it helps reduce pressures at the turbo inlets. It’s a good upgrade.

My tune on my 2016 3.5 won't allow the throttle to open more than 50% . I never would have known either until I did some data logging . The truck the rips and is way faster with the tune than the stock tune . I'm not sure whats going on, and neither does my tuner . They've sent me a couple of revisions since, but it hasnt fixed the issue . My guess is maybe my throttle body is starting to go bad, but I dont know. Im getting 20 psi of boost and it doesn't fall off.

@@saulgoodman9193 They aren’t my favorite. If you’re having an issue with your throttle body (like if it’s going bad) then tuning can’t work around that. However, if it’s not your throttle body’s fault, then I’d switch to someone like Unleashed Tuning or MPT Performance or ZFG Racing.
@BoostKingMatt I'm actually going to Arizona in December to have my garrett powermax stage 1 turbos and fullrace formline manifolds installed by the company fullrace and they're going to make a video about it. They're also going to do a before and after dyno with the guys from MPT. All of it is free of charge . I'm not sure if they're going to do any tuning . If not, I'm sure I'll have to pay for it, but I'm sure it would be worth it.

5.3s dont fight tunes...
If I did an ECU unlock I’d be fine but it ain’t cheap. 5.3s and other LS’s are awesome, but my viewers like the Ecoboost content!

@Somersetauto the older 2011-2020 3.5s are super duper easy to tune and respond super well. The new 2021+ 3.5s are a challenge.
