Impressed over the honesty.. Clearly her own thoughts. I'm happily rocking my fold5 I got cheap on the second hand market for hopefully another year. Looking forward to the oneplus open 2 early next year, and the z fold 7 even tho that's a long time to wait lol.. Also ready to try out the honor magic v3 when it comes to norway.
I got mine two days ago and I'm enjoying it. I've also used Z Fold 3, Z Fold 4, and went to iPhone 15 Pro Max for a bit. Yea software is better on Samsung foldables in terms of multitasking. But this phone is super enjoyable and I have Zero regrets.
Thanks for comparing the Fold with the regular Pixel 9 at the beginning. Every other reviewer just puts different foldables next to each other, but personally I'm not deciding between foldables but whether to get a foldable at all.
The hardware on the Z Fold 6 is really really nice. But personally I really dont like OneUI/Touchwiz. That alone would make me go with the Pixel over the Samsung.
I started with the Fold 3 but I just don't like how tall/narrow it is when it's folded. Had the Honor Magic V2 and now am rocking the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and am very happy with it❤️
I have both fold6 and magic v3, and maybe i'm the only one who prefers the outer display of fold6 more.. Its width fits my finger perfectly for one hand usage.
@@kEirenic I mean it's personal preference, I know some people like it, bc it is easier for one handed mode. But as a guy who had the OPPO Find N2, original Pixel Fold, and the Honor Magic V2, and now the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro I just want a normal phone when closed. I feel like with the Fold series, it forces you to open it up to do things. Anyways like I said many times everyones use case is DIFFERENT ❤️
This was a very well researched review. Let's hope Google is watching so they can make some of those improvements, especially to video playback. I didn't even realize about the bright white lower half while watching in tabletop mode. The phone can be used with the Pixel Stand 2 if you place something 1/2 inch tall underneath it to raise it up a little bit and it works perfectly.
As an S24 Ultra user who loves the features of One UI, if I should ever consider switching away from Samsung, I would much rather going to stock Android than iOS. As restricted as stock Android may feel compared to One UI, it is still Android, so I can always add features that are lacking by either installing a third party launcher and/or installing third party apps with features I like. Unlike iOS, you can still customize most aspects of stock Android without even rooting.
Watched this thinking it was just gonna be another review. Turned out to be legitimately the best P9F review I’ve seen. You highlight things that would concern me in daily use and don’t miss basic spec and feature facts like tech reviewers with 100s of thousands of $ in production value seem to miss (I think we all who I’m talking about). Subbed 🙏🏻
Thao as always you always manage to cut through the hype and give a great review. I have had my Pixel 9 Pro Fold for two days now and I love the concept of it but like you mention it comes with downsides. For me the weight and general wonkiness of some apps when the phone is open in tablet mode are giving me pause. I love how Google handled the outer display this year for easier one handed use but weighing in at 9.1oz cancels out a lot of that. I wish Google could have cut the weight down a bit more as both the Z Fold6 and OnePlus Open weigh quite a bit less, not even to factor in the Honor Magic V3. For me the biggest issue is that so many apps just don't work as well as they should on the inner display, including Google's own apps like Gmail. I know that Android 15 is supposed to fix some of these issues but it's shocking that Google rushed this particular model onto the market when it has so much to gain from Android 15, unlike the standard Pixel 9's. It puts a lot of us in a bind since Android 15 won't be out until October but our return windows are in September. Hopefully they open up the Android 15 beta program for us soon so we can make a better decision to see if that fixes enough to help us justify the $1800 price tag.
Great work on this one. Looks like mom life is treating you well. I decided to make the plunge to the fold. Decided to lease just to handle that price. I would still recommend the 9 pro XL over this to most people. Take care 🇨🇦
I'd absolutely watch if you made some longer videos that weren't a direct review. Your quality is great. I watch most of your videos because they're good and interesting, not so much because I'm interested in the device. I love the videos.
Great review! I have had the phone for a few days now and thought I’d chip in my 5 cents! I’ve been with the pixel family since the 5, and decided to finally jump into the foldable realm. I must say that I have 2 big takeaways. 1) Foldables are completely different from a regular phone - I know that sounds obvious, but you really need to think of this as a new class of device and not just a phone with a bigger inside screen. There have been countless times where I forget I have an inside screen, or forget I have an outside screen - and some tasks are much easier to do on one or the other - which I’m still figuring out. An example of this is moving between tasks that are better for one screen than the other - e.g watching a TH-cam video then texting a friend. It’s obvious that the better screen to watch a TH-cam video is the bigger inside screen, but then when you go to text a friend, I think from muscle memory I’m just way more efficient at doing this on the smaller screen, so I will start doing it on the bigger inside screen, find I’m less efficient, close the phone and continue on the outside screen, yes I could try multi tasking etc etc, but in real world usage I’m not fully tuned into the device. I think each person will also have a preference to what they prefer. 2) Tech reviewers don’t fully know how to review these devices just yet as generally they focus on the specs, the design etc, but they never really focus on the usage for the device, e.g. you have both a table and a phone - when do you use each configuration, how does it serve you in tablet mode, how does it service you in slab phone mode etc what would you use each for…
I appreciate you go into the software quirks and features with this phone. I didn't know that the video is offset when viewing unfolded. I am not sure if I will use the multitask for gaming + videos if Android doesn't have the ability to quickly adjust per-app volume, sounds like a quick and easy way to get overstimulated if both apps are at full blast.
Got mine today and I can't be happier, yep there are a few software bugs, but they can be fixed and the android 15 is around the corner. Slow charging isnt a issue since most of us charge their phones overnight anyway. When I comes to price please bear in mind that people pay almost as much for 1tb iphones or other single screened phones. 💯 I'd recommend this phone!
The Fold will charge on the Pixel Stands if you raise the phone by the width of a pencil. There is no chip inside 9 Pro Fold so it will not work as a 'home hub' or run a slide show but it's fine as a charger. The raising method will work with all upright chargers.
No lie, best review I’ve seen. Been looking to see if I should switch from my 14 Pro max to this. Been an Apple Stan since the 4s. 16 isn’t really doing it for me.
I find that the main issue with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is with that selfie camera. As you noted you can't really use Face Unlock at night, but really you can't use it effectively in any sort of low light scenario either. I have also had comments from my family that video call quality has greatly diminished due to the poor quality of the selfie camera (I am coming from an iPhone 13 Mini, so this surprised me). In good lighting, the selfie camera is pretty average, but in low lighting it's really bad. However, overall I love EVERYTHING else about the phone and am glad I made the decision to jump ship from Apple.
Great review! Are there different Grid settings for the inner/outer display? I usually increase mine to 5x5 - was wondering how the fold handles it if the screens are linked...
I went from a Galaxy Z Fold 5 to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold yesterday and the first things that I've noticed, that is a negative for me, is the inability to create folders outside of the main screen. I am liking the device overall, but it does feel like I've gone back in time from a software point of view.
Great review. I appreciate ur insight on the Pixel Fold. I have the Z Fold 5 and personally find, as u stated, Samsung software to be more refined. When u add that with those crazy trade-in and pre-order incentives, it's hard to switch foldables
Thank you for answering the biggest question I had in taking decent photos of a toddler. Galaxy fold has been great except for it only taking decent photos of my little guy 50% of the time. Which has been a deal breaker for me. Was thinking the only option for me was to go back to non-foldable. Does pixel camera also do the motion photos where you can select the best frame, like on iphone and Sammy?
Hi, thank you for the great review, especially the part with taking photos and videos of kids. It's always a though situation for smartphone cameras to handle moving objects in low lights and the pixel fold seems to do this good enough to be useful. I had a really bad experience with Samsung devices in this category and since apple has no foldables, the 9 fold is the only foldable I would consider to buy. Are all shots in the camera section taken with the 9 fold? Greetings.
3:50 likely because the inner selfie camera hole is huge and results in a very tall status bar. If Google had used a UDC like Samsung it could have had a normal sized status bar, but Google being Google...
Was.waiting for this one, I was fortunate my device came Sep.4th...wasnt expecting! It's the first fold I have had that feels like a regular phone when closed and also typing on the outer screen is actually possible lol Speaking of thinner are you going to review the Honor Magic V3 now that it's global Thao?
The earlier version of Google Pixel Fold was better than Pixel Fold 8 for sure ! .... The aspect ratio and everything else was better in the previous Fold .... 🤔 ....
Great review! I'm a huge Pixel fan, but it seems like Google's software choices need a lot of work before their foldables can really compete with what Samsung is doing. After all, Samsung has a 4-5 year head start.
Love the vlog as usual Thao, but unfortunately I'm just not ready or attracted to the foldable devices. I believe Samsung and Google are just not there yet but they are getting closer to what I want. Just not yet, but love your vlogs and channel 🇨🇦😁👍

It's a bit misleading on their website. The only page that lists the actual charging speeds is on the comparison page with all the Pixel phones listed. I don't get how people are able to overloook the empty corner on the folding side. It looks asimetrical and ugly af. Why do they have to use a rounded screen? Even in foldables? Just stick with the sharp cornered rectangle like samsung ang honor geez. Not to mention she basically appreciated bezels ahahah
I own the device and yeah on videos and photos it looks weird. In person is a little better and once you start using it you kind of forget. I would love to have it symmetrical but for me it is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I almost cancelled my preorder because of that.
I agree! That weird shape and thick bezel that wasted a lot of space around the actual screen when folded makes the phone looks cheap and outdated. Why can't Google just make a normal shape phone for their foldables like the rest of other foldable phones out there. They should fire their designer 😂. It's like the cutting machine run out of gas while cutting the shape of the phone and left the other side of the phone as it is, unfinished 😂
🔴Thanks for watching! 🙂
