  • Shepard Fairey spent several weeks in New York in July 2011 and February 2012, creating and printing the works for his forthcoming exhibition at Pace Prints. In this video, he discusses the ideas behind the works and the printmaking processes that he used. All the works were created at the Pace Paper studio and Watanabe Press in Brooklyn.
    The exhibition "Harmony & Discord" opens Saturday May 5 at Pace Prints, 521 West 26th Street, New York. For more information, visit www.paceprints.com/shepardfairey
    Special thanks to Eli Obus for the July 2011 videography and interviews. See more of his work here: www.wix.com/emo249/eliobus

      +berkay kiziltug He could still make his designs on Illustrator, and print them out on to transparency paper which then would allow him to screen print, i dunno though haha

    what does he use to collage in order to make the paper that he screenprints on? Does he put a varnish over it in order to make it? And when he says sanding and then varnishing his work when its all complete...can someone explain the process and how someone could create something similar.

      @@MrPhotodoc yeah other people with machines that mate money with his pockets.
      (Solution) he should do both. Hand Paint and screen press. And show THAT process. Only then would his finished product be as uniting as much as you're assumption that it does.

      blk stone
      Hello blk stone. Had a chance to stop by Shepard's gallery a few days ago and see some pieces in person. Not exactly sure but I would guess that you would layer, glue, rip, & stencil over designs printed on a various different thinner papers onto a heavier printmaking paper. Does that make sense? So each sheet would essentially be unique. Are you a screen printer?

    • @blkstone5272
      @blkstone5272 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      vexedart.com I'm starting to learn. I have always wanted to and I just screen printed my first piece, not the greatest, but I'm looking to consistently work on it and paint.
      He also mentioned in a doc about sanding the pieces..

    • @Vexedart
      @Vexedart 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      blk stone Sounds good. It is the same as anything you are learning. Lot of patience, practice, learning and failing. There are never any short cuts. I have been printing for 15 years. You will develop your own spin on techniques as you go.
