The way Benny linked this song to SOS with the simple piano accords at the end is just another proof of the genius he is. I can only see now how much I have missed these four talented people in the last 40+ years. I hope they never stop. ❤️
Abba masterpiece...I have a son called Dan and have tried to keep an eye on him since my divorce 15 years ago...I feel very emotional listening to this song but also Abba have delivered as only they can and for thst I'm thankful ❤ 💙
This song was the biggest surprise on the album for me. I had no idea this would be the style chosen, but I’m glad it is the way it is! Only Abba can name a song Keep An Eye On Dan and have it be a masterpiece!
Who gets chills and goosebumps when it goes from solo Agnetha to that trademark blend of Agnetha and Frida singing in unison? No greater combination of voices in the history of popular music.
Instant haunting hook intro line, then incredible evocative vocals lyrics, followed by soaring chorus and duets, driving beats, impeccable studio production, along with depth and meaning. In other words: ABBA.
I was skeptical that something on this album would live up to "Don't Shut Me Down". It's insane how good this song is. I think a lot of this album is a "retrospective", going through Abba's different styles and different musical styles of the world, too. I feel like this is definitely the one that pays tribute to "The Visitors", my favorite album of theirs. The darker subject matter, taking place after the divorce, and heavy emphasis on synthesizers convinces me. The fact that it ends on the signature opening notes of SOS is not just a cool easter egg, but also thematically ties in since that was their first big single about trouble in their marriage. Spectacular.
Their song "No Doubt About It" gets me going too! And the more I hear it, the better it gets! Would love to hear an Agnetha lead version as she has some killer rock notes/voices, but it's real cool to see Frida own it also.
Great analysis. I was thinking the same thing. The link to The Visitors album and track is very strong. And the piano end tribute to SOS is just gold. It gave me goose bumps when I heard it.
I can see your point, yet, interestingly, there are not any such male backing vocals on "The Visitors" at all. You might be thinking about "Two For The Price Of One" in which the male vocals are lead and the female vocals are backing. Other than that, "Lovelight" or even "Take A Chance On Me" might come closest.
A masterpiece. I absolutely love this song. Benny and Bjorn are genius songwriters. As for Agnetha and Frida fabulous, gifted, angels singing. Combined voices pure gold. A match made in heaven. Love you Abba forever. Loved you from the euro vision preview 1974. ❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏
This song is stunning. The melody is as catchy as anything ABBA has ever written and as a divorced father myself the theme resonates personally with me.
The song seems to be coming from a Women's point of view giving her Son to his father for the weekend The fact she notes he's lost some weight. She hasn't seen his father in sometime
You are so clever ABBA to produce the album in the way you did. Different tastes in people but everyone finds their golden grain on the album, old as young.
The way the men (Bjorn and Benny) weave their chorus lines into the song is brilliant. It is more subtle now than 40 years ago, but the effect is awesome!

The names of the critics will not be remembered next week even but I think 50 years from now people will still be listening to ABBA! The best music and most enduring music is hypnotic in nature. Hypnotic in a good and gentle way. It wakens up the good serotonin. I leave the more difficult music to those hellbent on wanting music to reflect their adolescent angst or overall anxiety and depression or artistic purity. The criticisms of ABBA today are no more original than the criticisms of the past. If critics want ABBA to up their game the critics need to as well.

Mark you, I too thought some of the pieces on this Voyage album were overproduced but the more I have listened the more I love what I am hearing.
Wonderful statement Ken! The music consists of harmonious sounds, the voices are soothing for ears and soul. It is partly church music or like caresses. No compulsion to imitate today's aggressive sound and disharmonious sounds with their aggressive yelling. ABBA is incomparable and completely independent art. The music of people's hearts. Listening to ABBA means having the courage to want to continue living.
In a world that often has little joy, the return of ABBA is like the sun coming out from behind the clouds. I know many have sniped about this being a rehash of old stuff masking as new material, but I think most of us fall immediately under the magic of the joyous vocals and uplifting classic ABBA sound. Familiar yet new at the same time, instantly lodged in your brain like any classic ABBA song. We were always blessed to have ABBA, and we are doubly blessed to live through their miraculous return, and to hear them sound just as great - if not better - than ever. I love these people, even if I will never know them, from the bottom of my heart. I only pray they don't disappear on us after this album...this world (actually, any world) will always, always, always need ABBA!
They are story tellers, not having to use their group name as a lyric filler (like a lot of more recent artist do). Nor do they have a hook that keeps repeating continually. They do sometimes have questionable lyrics "as smug as a cat" etc -but then I have 4 cats and tbh that line is as accurate a description as there ever will be. I didn't expect it in a ppp song - but after initial shock I have to say it works! They write in a foreign language and use English turns of phrase very successfully in context which is amazing in itself especially as English is one of the hardest languages to learn. All 4 of them are proper musicians, songwriters and lyricists. Not many of today's acts have that ability. Go ABBA! This is a Masterpiece. I love it every day more. Love the tension, the nerve, the pauses, the drama, the faint, the breath in every note that Agnetha puts to sings with absolute divine. So touching, so moving, disruptive atmosphefe with strong melody and meaningfull lyrics and the final chords of S.O.S. to conclude it's the best fade out ever. My favorite in the album for now. I need please the lyrics of the backing track sung by the boys in the chorus, I love how they answered as the "ex-husband" role.

gradually realizing the subject matter and being like “oh my god” as a child of divorced parents who traded me back and forth on sundays… how is abba so good at everything
Per me sono stati buona parte della mia gioventù' perché sono miei coetanei. Dopo 40 anni sono tornati forse più bravi di allora . È li vedo ancora bellissimi in piena forma... !! Fantastici ABBA.

I really love this song, I love the tone of Agnetha’s voice here - her lower tone has more colour and is really beautiful. Great harmonies from Frida and Agnetha, and Benny and Björn. A very catchy tune, I had it on repeat in my car earlier
I just heard the complete album, and the melancholic music of this song (on this rainy day in a corner of Argentina) caught me hopelessly. The lyrics, surprisingly, took it to a higher level. It feels autobiographical (about them), but it sure touches the hearts of many couples who have left the heartbreaking imprint of their love on a child.
When a song gets you thinking, making you dig deep into your thoughts to look for something you can relate to or something you might have missed, THAT'S A FREAKIN GREAT SONG!

SI ABBAMANIA DESDE ESPAÑA TAMBIÉN VOYAGE UNA MARAVILLA SON GENIALES CANCIONES INCREIBLES... TODO EL ALBUM UNA JOYA.. UNA OBRA MAESTRA VOCES INCREÍBLES Y MÚSICA GENIAL.. ME ENCANTA NO DEJO DE CANTAR ESTA MÚSICA TODOS LOS DÍAS.. ABBA POR SIEMPRE.. ABBAMANIA FOR EVER.. VIVA ABBA💕😍💕😍💕😍💕
This is just so quintessential ABBA. Kind of happy music but with tragic undertone. Like winner takes it all for example.
i feel exactly the same way - we have a the same story and it has survived - except that i was 12. knowing me and now knowing you we will love abba for the rest of our lives, and perhaps beyond ... i could go on and on and on some more but suffice to reply, just like that, sooooooooo grateful for the reunion and to be alive in the time with new abba music. golly, the world unites.
i was 7 years old at the time
This is a Masterpiece. I need please the lyrics of the backing track sung by the boys in the chorus, I love how they answered as the "ex-husband" role.
maybe they repeat pieces of the lyrics that the girls song ,a bit like the backvocals on the end of the winner takes it all.
Yes,I'm desperate to have those backing lyrics.......
Here they are:
I (seven on Sunday to get him)
I think he must have lost some weight; (she must have lost some weight; she looks better than ever)
funny how (funny, how it really takes me)
it takes me back to our first date… (right back to our first date; have I lost her forever?)
so, keep an eye on Dan! (I’ll keep an eye on my Dan)
(I’m a loving man, you know)
(that I’ll never upset him)
(I’ll keep an eye on my Dan)
(and I won’t forget you’ll be)
(here on Sunday to get him)
Keep an eye on Dan! (I’ll keep an eye on my Dan)
You’re a loving man; (I’m a loving man, you know)
make an effort not to upset him. (that I’ll never upset him)
Just keep an eye on Dan, (keep an eye on Dan) (I’ll keep an eye on my Dan)
and don’t forget (and I won’t forget you’ll be)
I’ll be back on Sunday to get him (here on Sunday to get him)
so, keep an eye on Dan…

ABBA crushed it.
As usual this song is ABBA PERFECTION!!!!!!
Keep an eye on our beloved Abba. Never let them be forgotten.
3:56 S.O.S.😍😍😍
They still have the magic. This song is up there with some of my classic all-time favs. I love that they haven't changed their sound whatsoever. It was so emotional listening to this new album for the first time
Love the 'sos' sound ending to the song 🎵
Ohhh that piano ending taking a piece from SOS...
Thank you for including the lyrics so that we can follow.
gradually realizing the subject matter and being like “oh my god” as a child of divorced parents who traded me back and forth on sundays… how is abba so good at everything
This album was just on repeat. Such a masterpiece 😭. 90s kid here! May not be the same era as them but their music was a huge part of my life! 😊😍
I think the same.
Voyage is a real MASTERPIECE.
Per me sono stati buona parte della mia gioventù' perché sono miei coetanei. Dopo 40 anni sono tornati forse più bravi di allora . È li vedo ancora bellissimi in piena forma... !! Fantastici ABBA.
Merry little things
@@andreamartinelli3712 È vero i nostri amati Abba ci hanno fatto un bel regalo di Natale, e ce li goderemo ....! Ti ringrazio, e anche io ti auguro un Felice Natale a te ,e i tuoi cari. E..Abba forever...!
This song has really grown on me , one of the best on the album. Nice touch with the nod towards S.O.S (my favourite ABBA song ever) at the very end.
After many years their voices are still the same and heartwarming😭❤️
This is why we love ABBA, a cracking song, delivered perfectly and so clever musically but so ABBA🙂, can't stop playing this and the whole album
I agree. This is pop genius.
I really love this song, I love the tone of Agnetha’s voice here - her lower tone has more colour and is really beautiful. Great harmonies from Frida and Agnetha, and Benny and Björn. A very catchy tune, I had it on repeat in my car earlier
Thank you for the music.
Legends.
♡ Abba ♡
Great funky tune that only ABBA could create....one of my favs!!! ❤❤❤❤
Best track on the album
Brilliant. Just Fantastic!
Me too but i cant
I just heard the complete album, and the melancholic music of this song (on this rainy day in a corner of Argentina) caught me hopelessly. The lyrics, surprisingly, took it to a higher level. It feels autobiographical (about them), but it sure touches the hearts of many couples who have left the heartbreaking imprint of their love on a child.
If sound is a time-machine then here it is. The Album is phenomenal.
I'm getting goosebumps as I hear this song. Just great!
100% with you - this ABBA as we loved it 40 years ago...not less and not more - a really GREAT song !!! Love it !!!
Yes, brilliant.
Beautiful flawless voices that picked up where they left off
Yes, The Album is phenomenal, but Voyage is not that bad either. 😉
When a song gets you thinking, making you dig deep into your thoughts to look for something you can relate to or something you might have missed, THAT'S A FREAKIN GREAT SONG!
This is just phenomenal
I'm stunned how good this Album is. Well, it is ABBA after all.
This is my favorite song on Voyage. Brilliant.
mine too!
