    Great video, thank you. Since I am currently taking photos with a Sony A7II, the direct comparison of the pictures from the lake was particularly revealing. A small note at this point: the reason why the Canon has zoomed in further at 78mm than the Sony at almost identical 75mm is the sensor size. The Canon works with an APS-H sensor (1.3 crop).

      Thank you for watching and the kind comment 😊 well I believe any camera can capture a good image as long as you do your part correctly. And yes I figured the sensor size had a role to play in the end😅 thanks for the info

    I still use 1DIV to shoot BMX races my kids take part in. Going to replace it with 1DX in next summer, since it has had weird noise originating from mirror box for 2 years, but still works. I actually planned to replace it 2020 but since corona came and we had no races and uncertain times, I skipped updating. I also still use 1DS3, but it has shutter bounce issue so does not get that much of use. My wife takes her business product shots with 1D3.

    I shoot with a 7D MK 1. I love it. There are a lot of people who might greatly enrich their lives through photography if they thought they could afford it. Thanks. It's the eye and mind behind the camera that counts. MHO.

      The 7D series is great! And yes absolutely, we don’t need to spend for the latest and greatest. True that it’s the photographer who makes a great photo, the camera is just the tool.

    That was really interesting and makes me feel sooooo much better about using my older gear! Keeping up with trends can be expensive and not always the best choice depending on what you are doing with your photography. My old Nikon meets my goals at the moment as an amateur hobbyist. I began my journey down the TH-cam rabbit hole watching in-studio tutorials, but now I enjoy the videos that are more out in the field focusing on nature and composition with good b-roll and music! Yours are easy to listen to!

    • @CJamesPhoto
      @CJamesPhoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m glad this made you feel good about the gear you are using, there is so much we can do with cameras and especially with such good editing software we can make older cameras much better then they were😊
      And I know how it is with trends, I’ve made the mistake and I’ve suffered. Glad you liked my video thank you for watching.

    Sony a7c has a full frame camera and canon 1d mark iv has an APS-H sensor... That is why in image comparison there was more blur on the mountains side

  • @TexMex421
    @TexMex421 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The 1DX Mark IV was the last APS-H sensor (1.3X crop) Canon made. I always though it was a fascinating camera because of that. It seemed like a bigger sensor to me being used the 1.6 crop of most canon consumer cameras. For wide angle photos you could use lenses like the Tamron 11-16 f2.8 that were made for 1.5 and 1.6 crop cameras.
    I also loved the way it felt in the hand. The built-in vertical grip was so much more solid than add-on grips for the 5D and similar. When I eventually got a 1DX to replace mine I was disappointed in the size of the camera. It seemed thicker and chunkier in the hand.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @CJamesPhoto
      @CJamesPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it is surprisingly a all round good camera, unique in its own right. It always seems to get ruined by the next model in some ways.

    Hello mate I enjoyed your video as I too have recently bought the1D mkiv albeit as a hobby camera and for the 2nd time. I enjoy using older cameras and I'm always surprised just how well they deliver especially with the editing software now available. Love using it, especially wildlife with longer lenses.
    I recently bought the canon R6, great camera, however I find I'm using the mk iv more often than I anticipated. I think newer cameras make photography easier but maybe not so satisfying.
    I look forward to any camera comparison videos.

    • @CJamesPhoto
      @CJamesPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much😊 yeah the editing software available now makes almost any old camera so much better,
      There is no reason to have a high mpx camera now unless it’s for special use.
      Sounds like you are really enjoying the setup and that’s good, I had the R6 too and I know exactly what you mean about it being easier and you almost loose touch with taking photos.
      At the moment I’m using Sony but miss that Canon feel.
      I just enjoy mixing up my gear a bit.
      Thanks for the comment 😊

    I don't really care about what is new. Just what is good, and good value. So tired of how expensive buying any camera gear is. This is a beast. I bought one used for $450.00 in good condition. I shoot normally a 6D. I also have a grab and go Sony a6400. But this one for plane spotting, airshows, and more. Will be amazing since this is my first professional camera.

    About the differences in the shots at 09:40... You are comparing a full frame camera with a crop sensor camera. Ofc there will be difference in the width of the frame and the depth of field...

    I watched your video and ordered a used 1d Mark IV today. This would be my first "Pro" camera after owning a Canon EOS 700D for over a decade. I hope most of my lenses would still work on it, since it has only EF mount support.

    • @CJamesPhoto

      @@CJamesPhoto thank you.
      It was a tough choice between 5d Mark II, 1ds Mark III and 1D Mark IV.
      Somehow I was inclined towards crop sensor for the extra reach and iso range it offered.
      I guess I have to wait some more time to get my first full frame 😂
      Maybe after few years, when 5D Mark IV is cheap enough.

    • @iamthearmul
      @iamthearmul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1DS3 vs 1DIV. ISO difference is huge. I rarely shoot above 800 on 1DS3. 1DIV also has auto ISO that helps and better screen for reviews. You also can't shoot sport with 1DS3 in meaningful way.
      Love the skin tones in 1DS3, but dynamic range is a bit narrow. Use it to shoot portraits, flash photography is where 1DS3 somehow is excellent and exposure control works exceptionally, compared to 1DIV.

    • @CrestlessWave
      @CrestlessWave 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iamthearmul I was looking at 1DS III as it was around the same price range with but of extra money. But somehow I end up with. 1D Mark IV. Enjoying it thoroughly. I found is an overall good camera for most setup. Definitely not for handheld videos though!!

  • @boeju1
    @boeju1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    the difference in effective focal length is because the sensor on the 1d is a bit smaller.

    • @CJamesPhoto
      @CJamesPhoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @CJamesPhoto
      @CJamesPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are already having a problem then the 1D is only going to make things worse.
      It definitely has more weight then the 70D .
      With a long lens and a heavier camera there is more balance, but you will definitely notice a difference.

    Thank you CJ for the video.
    Being purely a hobbyist; I bought this legendary DSLR used just a year ago mainly for wildlife photography. I put it to its paces and it performs great. It had 42k shutter counts when I bought it and cost me exactly 1k dollars. It was my dream camera so, I had to get it. Together with 7D; this duo gets me everything I need while shooting wildlife including bird flight shots. Never feel the necessity of MILCs and perhaps I'm not going mirrorless at all.
    Could you kindly demonstrate some wildlife photography with this camera?
    Thanks in advance.

      Sounds like you have the perfect setup, I know I’d be really happy with both those cameras together too! But due to life changes etc I had to sell my camera sadly. And I am now waiting for any kind of replacement, which means something older and maybe a different brand. I would have loved to make a video for what you asked. But maybe sometime in the future.

    • @CJamesPhoto
      @CJamesPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely the 1D, it’s built to last and was designed for pros to use in the most difficult environments. It’s all round a better camera. Faster frame rate and better image quality. The 7D is good but I’d choose the 7D II over that. But you’d still do better getting the 1D
