I recommend peaches for the combination as well, if you don't like any of the other fruits it is a great substitute and they are great when served cold with the cream and everything. I noticed this video is from 2015, so give it a thumbs up if you are here in 2018!
As a chef here in England I clicked to check out this video having seeing it described as an English trifle to which I thought hmmm? Over here a trifle is of course generally called a trifle but if it has a key ingredient such as raspberries or bananas or cherries it is called then for instance a cherry trifle. Absolutely stunning looking trifle and the maximum use of fresh fruit is superb I'll be adapting my trifles after seeing this video. Thanks Chef!
Wow your presentation of this beautiful trifle cake looks delicious and amazing too! I am definitely going to follow your recipe and make this dessert but, can I add nuts in it and can I use both strawberry souce and liquorice together? Thanks for sharing!
English. Trifle basics is strawberry jello and sponge and fruit for layer 1 let set ... for layer 2 make up a basic custard let go cold then put on top of your set jello then layer 3 its whip cream.. that’s it ... you can add a few strawberries or Sprinkles to layer 3 up to you.. So basically it’s 1 jello and sponge together 2 custard 3 cream ..... of course you can verify all three ingredients to your liking by adding extra fruit whatever more sponge or changing the custard to the chocolate custard etc. 100s of varieties But this trifle in the video is so far off the rails it’s hard to call it an English trifle ...
hi. great video, your right bananas turn brown mine turn black so i have given up using them, oranges i don't use as it stops the jelly from setting. Yes it looks good. I didn't see you put any jelly in. but it still looks very good
Ruth Widdowson Thank you for this tip I guess I learn something new every day thanks again will be using that suggestion to keep my bananas fresher longer and I will be sharing this tip advice with others! :-)
Ruth Widdowson. ..... You can also do a quick dip in orange juice to keep the bananas looking fresh & not turn brown ...it really works just try a " quick dip" and see ......
Ok,its a variation on an English trifle,it should be strawberries, not kiwi. Not chocolate cake, sponge fingers. And to the person who asked how its served, you sit there, with a big spoon, and eat, till you feel full.Where is the jelly,or jello for our American buddies ?
It is a little humour: it is more similar to the African dessert with bananas :)) Thanks lovely woman. I use your technology of preparation. It is very beautiful dessert, on a serious note
to make pastry cream is egg yolks corn flour sugar milk add yolks sugar whisk together add corn flour mix add some heated milk mix well add to the rest of hot milk in pot he4at and stir till thickened
The branch manager of a child welfare office I worked at used to mame this and bring in the office for special celebrations. He would use liqueur soaked ladyfingers, berries, fresh coconut macaroons, pastry creme, and chantilly cream. We had a special celebration for foster parents that the governor attended. He went right past the sheetcake we had also provided and came back for seconds on the trifle the manager brought. I think it was either he was sick of cake (governors attend a lot of events) or the booze in the trifle was too much to resist.
+Viky T Typically, then guests can take the portion they like. It looks beautiful on a dessert buffet. You can also make these individually, I was able to find the small glass footed bowls similar to this one at Walmart.
3:50 I herd that wrong around the 3 minute mark, you don't have to be a p&&y about this... i was like wait WHAT?! ambient sounds in the same room I was in so...
Lovely dessert, not like the trifle my British friends make, hey am I alone because I never eat kiwi- it is a great color 🥝but seems sour 😛also dip banana slices in any citrus 🍋 juice and they wont brown. 🍌 never met a brown banana that didn’t taste heavenly.
That is not how you make a traditional authentic English Trifle. What’s going on with the pastry cream and amaretto? Looks more like a big American desert
That's nothing whatsoever like an English trifle! Kiwi fruit, bananas, chocolate cake? No, no, no. Where's the jelly? Madeira cake or Swiss roll should be used.
Even though this is 6 years old, it's the prettiest and neatest trifle recipe on TH-cam!
I recommend peaches for the combination as well, if you don't like any of the other fruits it is a great substitute and they are great when served cold with the cream and everything. I noticed this video is from 2015, so give it a thumbs up if you are here in 2018!
Trifle looks so beautiful 👍👍👍👍👍
Most definitely not an English trifle, but looks like a very nice American desert of some kind.
I Was going to comment the same thing. She's not making an English or Scottish Trifle.
@@keishamurrell3095 Truth. It does not resemble an English trifle, although it does look tasty.
@@mbd6054 I'm definitely trying this recipe. It looks very tasty.
@@keishamurrell3095 Me too. Enjoy. :)

I’m in America and I’ve NEVER seen chocolate cake used in trifles
Wow beautiful ❤
Love the final look...
Why are you calling this an English trifle it is nothing like one. English trifle has jelly custard and whipped cream in.
not an english trifle.
What is pastry cream, how do you make it if not store bought
That is beautiful! Love it
Looks Great !

100% correct. Americans are borrowing the double layer from Italian desserts. It still looks good, but nothing like nan's trifle 😉
Looks delicious. Thank you for sharing your recipe ❤️
Your voice is very pleasant 🥰🥰🥰

You're lovely, but that is not an English trifle! ... and what's with "pastry cream" ... it's jolly well custard!
Beautifully delicious 😋
I love it thanks sharing us 👍🌹
Thank you!
a hint re bananas. soak unskinned bananas in cold water for a number hours before using. Helps keep the flesh from browning.

Madam, the decoration is good but how to scoop it in the plate to eat and have the scoops neatly, evenly and all the layers in each plate.

Whats pastry cream?
Fancy name for custard
So now how do we put it on a plate to eat?
Perhaps you can call this anything BUT English trifle.
It is a little humour: it is more similar to the African dessert with bananas :))
Thanks lovely woman. I use your technology of preparation. It is very beautiful dessert, on a serious note

Kiwi fruit in a classic English dessert, I don't think so, and chocolate cake instead of sponge cake. whoops.
I agree kiwi? How about Swiss roll and Raspberry jello?
It does look lovely, but perhaps call it an American Trifle or something else, but please not an English Trifle.
Hi! Can you recommend me where to buy he glass bowl? Thanks!!
I have seen these a lot in the kitchen section of thrift stores
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌷from Bangladesh
Just make sure you dont accidentally combine it with a Shepard's pie. ( looking at you Rachel).
lmao, thanks for that comment
Top!
Beautiful!
+Deb T. Don't forget to try the recipe yourself! www.escoffieronline.com/how-to-make-english-trifle/
What exactly is pastry cream I’m not familiar with
a thick custard
it looks beautiful :) but how do you serve this dessert? do you just scoop it out with a big spoon?
+Viky T The Trifle is served in the bowl and guest spoon out the amount they want with a large or medium spoon
So it's a self serve dessert?
+Viky T

Where's the jelly? It's the jelly that holds it all together. And, no, I don't mean American jelly. That's jam!
well spotted. i was thinking just the same. whats a trifle without jelly?
or custard.
It doesn't look very English to me. Kiwi fruit?
👍👍
Correct. It’s a combo not to be trifled with,
3:50 I herd that wrong around the 3 minute mark, you don't have to be a p&&y about this... i was like wait WHAT?! ambient sounds in the same room I was in so...
I was not awake the AC was on!
Looks yummy but it's not an English trifle either nor a kiwi one
فراوله كيوي توت موز
It’s not a English trifle. Just a trifle 😂

you butchered it by folding in the creme to the custard as the creme goes on the top for english trifle
If deserts are your thing , very nice but that ISNT!!!! an English trifle by any stretch of the imagination, sorry.
Mix bananas with orange juice and they will not turn brown.
That is not how you make a traditional authentic English Trifle. What’s going on with the pastry cream and amaretto? Looks more like a big American desert
What?? 😳 No Cool Whip?? (Sarcasm)..
Talk, talk, talk. Speak less show more. Damn! Mute and watch on double speed. Even then it took forever.
Agreed. Couldn't go through it otherwise.
Nice dessert but that's definitely not an English Trifle.
as an English person may I say this is not the right fruit to put in a trifle
This video in spanish, please.
That's an American🇺🇸 Modern Girl Trifle. I like your Trifle but your going to offend the people from Great Britain and the Isles with the false claim.
English triffle my @ss
