Koala Sampler & iOS Music Production - why I canceled my Maschine+ order

  • In the past few weeks, I've been having a lot of fun with Koala Sampler. iOS music production is new to me and I was starting to enjoy it. Then Maschine+ was announced, something I had been waiting for quite some time. I had to make a decision if I wanted to continue with a new Maschine, which was somewhat of a disappointment, or continue to explore the possibilities of making beats solely on my iPad.
I dedicated a week to seeing what's possible on iOS, this video is what I have and what I'm sharing with you, hope it helps!

I like what you're doing here. Minimal setups are real interesting to me, although I can be a gear hound and just pre-ordered the + I may reconsider. Definitely don't need it, already have an MPC. Although I have other reasons to buy more than necessary. Keep it up! Looking forward to more videos.

Yeah, the minimalism is exciting to me. The ultra-portability too. Walking into a cafe with an iPad and chopping samples is wonderful, a Maschine+ and a plug, not so much 😝

Smart move, I’ve been selling a lot of my old gear too after realizing how much I can get done on just an old 6th Gen iPad, Akai MPK mini and a few good apps. definitely a game changer. Just bought Koala Sampler last week and it’s amazing. still not getting rid of my SP-404 though. That’s one machine I’ll keep forever. Great channel, subbed.

What are the advantages of using audioshare over opening files in a side window, so that both Koala and files are open on screen at same time?
This way I can preview sounds in files, while my beat is also playing in koala. Once I find a sound I like, I simply drag it over from the file window straight onto the specified koala pad, and voila! I’m good to go!
What advantage does Audioshare offer? Great vids btw

    • @-ronzoni-beatslife5251
      @-ronzoni-beatslife5251  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wow I didn’t know you could drag and drop from Files! That’s something I’ve wanted for AudioShare. I’m not sure now about the advantages. I feel like the UI is better. It’s easier to browse sounds in a list. I use it to trim, fade and normalize sounds often. It’s integrated nicely into AUM. It’s got a record feature and I use it for sampling if I’m not in Koala. It’s a good tool for music production on iOS, not necessary for Koala

@@-ronzoni-beatslife5251 yea a few ppl have recommended audioshare to me. Personally I do all my iPad sampling simply through the built in ‘screen record’. And then use the video import option in koala to get the raw audio straight onto the pad. Works perfect. I sometimes use this method when playing different synth apps and keyboards etc, and then screen record what I am playing to then dump it back into koala again via video import. I have been considering AUM tho. At the moment, when I get to a point I am satisfied with my koala project I sometimes record it into GB, and then use AUV3 instruments etc to add some extra layers and spice. But as good as it is I find GB quite ‘stiff’ and sometimes frustrating in ways. So poss AUM can solve these issues for me? I also want to find an easier way of using my 404 in my work flow so AUM maybe the way. Thanks again brother

    • @-ronzoni-beatslife5251
      @-ronzoni-beatslife5251  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@KrissyKr1s I haven’t used GB with Koala, but in AUM you run Koala and then also your other tracks. You’ll be able to record your keyboard straight to a track and save it as a file. And then you use the file player in AUM to loop it. There is an AUM plugin to record midi and then send the midi to another source like a keyboard. It’s crazy you can do so much. Google “LK & AUM” to find a video on that. I haven’t gone that far yet.
If you want to use your SP404, watch my video on Maschine and SP404. You can do that setup and just plug the audio interface into the iPad instead of a laptop
This is my main workflow. I can record audio directly in Koala from anything playing on my iPad and I can also run everything through the SP

@@-ronzoni-beatslife5251 so I checked out the vid u recommend, great vid btw. I sort of get it in principle. I need to figure out if/how to connect my macs audio interface to my iPad, gonna try find a vid on it now. I have an interface for my iPad but it only has usb, hdmi, SD card, jak inputs, but no audio in and out, oh and I’m using a iPad model 4 which only has usb c input itself.
In regard to the 404, right now I go from the jack out (ipad audio interface) to the 404 in. Sample onto a 404 pad, re sample adding further fx etc.. Then when I’m happy I have to eject the SD card from the 404, put it back into the iPad audio interface and copy the 404 file back into koala or whatever app to play with further.
It works, but massively slows down the work flow and as a result I hardly even use the 404 now, not even as an fx unit even. So what ur saying using AUM and this set up sounds perfect for me....I just need to figure out exactly how...
You should make a video! 😉😉
