Wade Barrett spoke to Kenny McIntosh at an ITR Live show back in 2017 about the idea for him to win Money In The Bank in 2011. He discusses the build up and almost being the guy picked to win the match. Subscribe to the channel for more clips of our live shows and interviews, and don't forget to like and comment too!
Bad news Barret was my message tone for like 2 years. Loved the character. "I'm afraid I've got some bad news" is the best Dad line when the kids get excited.
WWE in 2011-2012 would have looked very different if Barrett would have won MITB in 2011. If Bryan doesn't win MITB and cash in on Big Show in December, Bryan isn't World Champion and we very likely don't get the 18 second match that started the YES Movement at Mania 28. I'm assuming perhaps Wade is talking about the World Heavyweight Championship and he would have cashed in on Big Show unless he cashes in on Punk at Summerslam over Del Rio then Punk takes the title back at Survivor Series to start his 434 Day Reign.
Great point… it’s moments like these where you really just wonder how different everything could be. Wade was a fantastic talent with a ton of potential. Crazy how things play out.
@Zane Thind Alot of people do consider the beginning of the YES Movement to be at Wrestlemania 28 even though it wasn't the start of the people getting together in support of him at that point. It's the idea that got it there, since alot of fans were disappointed at WWE for having what's consider the Greatest Wrestler in the World lose in 18 Seconds. Like I know what your saying that the Movement started at 2013 and all. But its like the whole Batman Origin thing. That path started when he was a kid when his parents were murdered.
Money Mike Productions Wade was in the world heavyweight championship money in the bank. He only could've cashed in on Randy/ Christian/ Mark Henry or Big Show
Man Wade Barrett was the man, I remember both in 2011 and 2013 I thought he was going to win the Money in the Bank, wish he did, could have been a major star for the WWE, his various injuries over the years sadly slowed his career push
Yea sucks that Barrett didn't get it, I think Bryan mentioned that one reason he was picked was Alberto was chosen to win the Raw MITB match, so to avoid 2 heels winning Bryan was chosen.
Bryan probably needed it more due to his size. Arguments could be made for when Punk, Miz, Ziggler, Theory winning there's too. Barrett should have won the rumble that year.
He definitely should've won the belt when he led Nexus. Even if they were going to drop it right back to Cena. That angle could've done incredible business, but they only ended up getting one major PPV out of it.
They dropped the ball with the Nexus storyline. They pretty much killed anything it could’ve been with that Summerslam match. The team was brand new and needed to be seen as legitimate threats and instead basicsllt immeidately they get crushed by super cena. That one was a bad call and killed the potential it could’ve had.
I was never a fan of just sticking the belt on the man to get him over,, but Barrett was over as a heel and despite him being new he should have gone over at Bragging Rights,, it would have cemented him as the top heel and he didnt need a clean win it could have been the dirty heel win they loved doing. Barrett would have sold it easily enough with his gloating shtick on the mic. They had fluked the set up and still made a mess of that bragging rights finish. I didnt watch WWE for 3 years around that time it was ridiculous how they built up Barrett and Nexus only to have Cena totally bury them.
This story is amazing because it involves genuinely every issue we have ever heard about WWE creative of modern years. You have a last minute change of plans of who you’re going to have win the thing. You change the plan you supposedly had for the winner after they do win the thing. But the most incredible thing is honestly the story proposed that got Vince to change his mind. How wild is it to imagine that the idea to plan to a guy becoming your champion isn’t to spend time buikding his legitimacy so that when he finally wins the title fans see him as a top level champion. Instead we’re going to spend close to an entire year having him lose every single match and hammer down in every fans mind that he is inept and can’t win a thing. And after 9-10 months of making sure every single person watching knows that this dude sucks and is incapable of winning suddenly he’s going to win the championship. That is a top tier way to make sure that fans accept him as the champion. I bet whoever he beats for the belt is going to be thrilled to lose to him cleanly so that he gets a legitimate win to become champion. I’m sure that person won’t have any issues losing to a guy at wrestlemania who hasn’t won a match for almost a year because I’m sure he wouldn’t feel like losing to that guy legitimately would make himself look like shit. And I bet if they refused a legitimate loss so he had to get some fluke lucky win that it would do even more to cement him as a legitimate champion. That has to be the most absurd plan to make a guy your champion I think I’ve ever heard. Let’s just make sure he’s a complete loser for a long time and then out of nowhere we can say just kidding he’s the champion what an underdog! That’s probably why the plan changed because someone finally got through to Vince that this idea was fucking stupid and would doom everyone involved in it.
I mean... without the MITB cash in on big show at TLC2011. Bryan would of never turned heel, never started the YES chants that got him over and may of never been as big as he became. So Bryan's MITB2011 win was pretty much the start of the rise as a main eventer
Vince changing his mind at the last minute and giving the briefcase to Brian instead of Barrett started a chain of events that define an entire era in wrestling around the world not just WWE
It’s a shame how they buried wade Barett he was in his prime in 2010. he should have won the WWE Champion as the leader of nexus that would have been so much better.
He talked about Vince and how he is perfectly with positives and negatives 😂 You can tell he was a piece of sh*t even before we knew what we lately heard and it was said by the right guy. Wade Barrett was gold during all his entire run there. He should became champion. People cared about Cena, but for one time he lose a title that never wouldn't destroyed him
Dude Wade Should have won the Briefcase. Bryan didnt deserved it that year He got his bullshit in 2013. but what do you expect from Wwe Letting down a Great Talent like Wade Barrett who is better than Daniel Bryan
I'm with WWE on this decision, simply because Barrett is a guy they could have pulled the trigger on many different times besides this. Bryan however, considering his size, really only had a small window to be taken seriously, and this was it.
This reminds me of when Johnny ace kept bugging Vince and the agents of pushing Brain Kedrick as the guy in 2008 instead of Jeff. Getting successful In them changing the booking of that year's scramble match and having him earn a pinfall instead of Shelton.
That makes sense given how much Jeff was messing up their plans. You’d have to assume that Vince was getting major resistance from other people to go full board with Hardy as a main eventer which is probably why he never held the title for long because “We do not want to have this guy get caught for something as champion” Sure enough he gets busted for hoarding drugs a month after he left
@@MrPerfect2000Z pretty much same thing with Kedrick too. The Johnny Ace was pushing for him to break up with Paul London and wanted him to win the WWE championship from Triple H after the Orton feud. Of course nobody wanted to push him because of his weed problems that Johnny Ace legit changed the company's drug policy regarding weed just so Kendrick wouldn't get fired and technically not in violation of the companies rules.
He should have the face of wwe not cena he had everything what triple h had early in his career infact he was better then triple h had some awesome moves
The Briefcase was a pretty cool concept at first but has become super overdone by now IMO. It’s kinda lame how initially it seemed like the guys who won it usually were ones who were on the cusp of the next level and a lot of times they’d use this to make that jump. Then they’d start to let up and comers get the thing and they’d always lose the contract or lose the match. I’d be cool if they’d do away with it by now because I don’t think it’s as cool as it was before.
Wade was too injury prone. He never went a full year with an injury that had him out for at least 2-4 months, therefore they could never push him too far. He also got injured in this very MITB match he said he was meant to win.
You know what I like about barret , if anyone has a legit reason to be bitter and shit on everyone he does. You see people who got massive pushed and title runs be bitter and shit on everyone, and this dude got fucked over so many times in his first 12 months alone and he doesn't bury anyone and stays positive and glad he at least had a run
He should have won the briefcase in 2013 instead of Sandow, Cena was champion at the time it would be interesting to see Barrett get revenge on Cena for the Nexus
This was just prior to the Barrett Barrage, which was my personal favorite due Wade's long, greasy hair at the time. He would have it all slicked back at the start of the match, by the matches conclusion it would be all crazy Ziggler-esq!
He didn't like Bryan as a person. I've heard someone say Vince was heard saying he doesn't trust a man who doesn't eat meat and that's why he made Bryan's veganism the cenetr of his heel run.
Wade Barrett could revive the nexus in 2024 just have him out on commentary at Wrestlemania and if John cena is having a match at mania this year have Wade Barrett screwing John cena with underutilized wrestlers backing him up attacking John cena this could set up a match with John cena and wade Barrett at a big ppv obviously John cena wouldn't be the main focus because it's not 2010 but just imagine the pop id be all for the original members coming back but Even if they revived the nexus with young current wrestlers with wade Barretts guide

@@tmotivate Is there a reason? Like I feel he’d give NXT 2.0 a nice little boost while putting someone over.
He’s definitely a perfect example of a guy who made everything he was given work and got shit on constantly for it by wwe creative
