I think making a new lantern post to hold the tool holder is the easiest and most practical. I have done that on my SB 7" and it works pretty good. I look forward to seeing what solution you choose! KOKO! (Keep On, Keepin On)

I say make a larger tool post to accommodate your new large holder.

You need to make the second rotary type as it will be needed to get the bit in the right position for many jobs .
That pin idea is a good one to keep it from moving, but not totally necessary as when it is tightened up it will not move easily , but if you have a lot of tool holder hang out to do a job it might try to move , things happen like that .

Hey thanks for your response. That pin has a dual purpose. The first is what you said. The second is for positioning, I am going to mill holes in the shoulder of the tool holder. Every 10 degrees and 180 degrees further it jumps 5 degrees compared to the first 18 positions

Tool holders come in many sizes for different size machines , some will just be to large for the machine that you are using .
I have a few that where given to me that are to large for my 14" x 36" lathe .

If it doesn't fit, Maybe you can make it fit. Please pay attention to center height. Important with a lathe.

Why not grind or mill the toolholder smaller so it fits in the regular holder?

hey huub, that's also an option, but that's not what I want. love to keep the original like this. therefore the less simpler way. that might be a bit more interesting. for you as a viewer
