    Love these Marshalls and I have a 1982 Marshall JCM800 but I played out of a 2007 VOX ADVT50 and a 2008 VOX VT100 2x12 Combo fell emeditally in love with both of these hybrid Amps wish VOX would reissue them both

    I have a 1974CVX wtih the original aged Celestion Heritage 15ohm 20W speaker , and I recently put togheter a Marshall Studio Vintage cab with a 1971 Greenback 25W to go with my 1W Marshall JMP anniversary head . The thing is they both sounded so good that I bought me another 1W JMP head , and now switch beetween them while playing at home ......ahh the madness !

      @supergaryburns - if you see this, do you mean the SV112? I’d love to hear your thoughts on how they compare, since I am currently trying to decide between a 1974cx and an SV112 with a heritage greenback to be used with an SV20H. Do the bigger dimensions of the 1974 make a noticeable difference to the sound? Thanks!

      @@JohanSegeborn A thought - have you ever considered doing a comparison between the vintage 20w Greenback and the G12EVH (effectively a heratige 20w Greenback)? I've not seen anyone do this, and its would be quite interesting to see how close (or not) they are. I've seen the video between the vintage greenback and the chinese made 25w, which is quite different.

    The offset cab seems too have a fuller sound. Maybe placing the speaker in a corner for some reason minimizes phase issues. Less reflections inside.

    Hi Johan, I think the 1974x needs a darker speaker. Have you ever come accross the Celestion Alnico Ruby? I'd be curious to hear how its medium frequencies compare to a pulsonic. The Ruby is said to tame those highs and give a nice body to the tone. I might pair one with my G12-65 1777.
    Great demo as always, have a great day!

    • @JohanSegeborn
      @JohanSegeborn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Massie! I havent tried the Ruby yet I’m afraid. The 65 is a great 1x12 speaker too. It’s actually the original speaker of the 1933 cab here. Cheers

    • @Izzy-fh8sr
      @Izzy-fh8sr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ Massie Gauthier -
      G12-65 (1777) is holy grail territory for many and the Ruby could be a cool companion - I would also be curious to hear one because I’m not super familiar with the way that they break up. Also, I plan on pairing a set of 65 (1777) w/ a pair of Jensen Tornado Stealth. Maybe look into those. They’re definitely thick sounding and voiced darker on the top end - the lows are weighty and the low mids add a badass thump. Not sure if that’s what you’d be going for but I think they’d make a good pairing for the 65’s.
      Cheers!

      Interesting question

    • @victorjbarker
      @victorjbarker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Tobias Chobotuck I agree. I used to be an audio engineer and spent many years performing measurements and experimenting with these arrangements. This will absolutely have an effect on the standing waves and their reflection from the rear side of the speaker cone to the cabinet panels. Some frequencies will be effected more than others at differing speaker locations on the speaker mounting baffle. Adding a damping material inside the cabinet will also effect output. Changing fill density and substrate also has quite an effect as well. These effects are both audible and measurable in transient response, frequency response, and phase response. It make a great driver and cabinet sound terrible, and bad driver sound terrific. Sometimes the cancellations are desired when a particular driver has a frequency response that is too bright in a particular spectrum. Ultimately, the final design is subject to listening tests and approved by someone. But production drivers to change so it's always worth experimenting by yourself to find if you can improve based on your own ear and preferences.

      He used the same vintage Celestion Speaker in both cabs . So how can the new cab be sterile? A pulusonic Greenback is not going to become sterile in a new cab .
      Your listening with your eyes . Both cabs sound almost identical because the vintage Greenback is where the tone lies

      @@JohanSegeborn It may be, but when you play in a band with several instruments you may have to have a bright tone?
      Marshall 1974X is a little dark at low volume and lacks an open and bright tone on the top. True, the amp gets brighter and brighter when you increase the volume and when you get close to 10, then everything is perfect, but unfortunately so loud that the drummer can barely be heard.
