Just get a 200lb tank installed and sign up for auto fill. We heat the back side of our farm house with one very similar...DynaGlo. Heats kitchen and Laundry room with ease, on lowest setting. Great for power outages too. Nice review
I purchased the regulator and adapter fitting you put in the description (thank you btw) but for those of you planning on not mounting this thing to a wall, I suggest getting the L shaped one they say to get in the manual. The straight one made it a huge pain. We had to put it up on cinder blocks so the line didn't pinch. At least in my case 🙃
Actually it is a 20 lb tank not a 20 gallon tank. And the 20 lb tanks actually come with 15 lb of propane in them. You always have to have expansion room inside. This is standard procedure with gas fuel tanks.
One came with the mobile home on our vacation property, just got it fired up and cleaned it today. It's only a year old. These things put out amazing amounts of heat. The only thing about these is that you can't let them run unattended. Please correct me if I'm wrong! I need something else to keep the temp in there at 40F. Going to wind up with electric baseboards at both ends of the mobile home to maintain tha temp. They're very efficient now. Once I get there I can fie this up and we're warm in no time flat. One thing I'm going to do is put in a fresh air vent behind the unit that I can open or close at will. As far as propane goes, run the lines to a 100+ pound tank or two, you'll pay far less for propane than buying 20 pound tanks.
If you want to maintain a constant temp in your shop buy a ductless heat pump system from Mitsubishi or Daikin. It is about 300% more efficient than electric heaters and at least half the cost of propane. For a Ductless unit the shop has to be well insulated and is best to leave on 24/7. If you don't want a constant 62+ degrees propane is probably the way to go. Gas can heat up a cold space much quicker than a heat pump.
@@MakersLane for a second, i thought something was wrong. Took FOREVER before it would light. Now I just gotta sell my wood stove and hang this in its place. Thanks for reviewing and posting parts. Now I get stuff to work on in the winter.
On High a 30,000 BTU heater will burn through a 20lbs propane tank in roughly 14 hours. 20 lbs of propane has 432,000 BTU's of energy and that heater can burn 30,000 BTU's an hour. If everything is true to spec.
I don't know if you noticed but many of those tanks have only 15# of propane in them. It is stamped on the tank. I was getting me 20# tank filled for $10 last summer.
Observations. Tank is "20 pounds" capacity. Tanks from local exchange stores, if you look closely are filled with 15 pounds near me. #We are getting cheated as most folks have no idea about weight and LP gallons. Tape up end of supply hose before pushing through a recently drilled hole to avoid dust contamination. Thanks. If you buy from a LP provider make sure they weigh the tank, and add 20 to balance scale to get correct gallons/pounds.
A lot of these comments are people scared of propane .... Grow some balls people, or learn what the heck you are doing. Good video. Best part was run time info. Thanks!
THANK YOU FOR THIS REVIEW!!!!! This is just the info I need. I rent from a propane company who suddenly DOUBLED their price to fill my tank. Needless to say I am freeing myself from them. I plan on having portable tanks and filling them myself from whomever has the lowest price. I also plan on getting a diesel heater so I have options on whichever heat source is currently the cheapest -- propane, off road diesel, or electric. Thanks again!
Find a better propane dealer. I had to switch off Amerigas because I was running out in the middle of February this year. I went local and they were here wirth two new big tanks in an hour. I also saved a ton of money per gallon.
Great review on the Mr Heater. I'm actually curious about the Heat storm you have because all I would have to do is plug it in. I have a 2 car garage with 9 foot ceilings. Roughly how do you think that would perform. I would be in it approximately an hour at a time a couple days a week. Thanks.
My shop has 9 foot ceiling and is 12 x 20, I was heating it with a 20,000 btu ventless heater. Don't know if it was the heater it self or the propane I bought but was getting a strong odor that was burning my eyes and throat. So I had to remove it and replace with electric heat. For this year I am looking at installing a vented heater so will get no odor inside.
I have the same size shop and had a 18,500 btu propane heater and had the same problem. I put a 30,000 Mr Heater on and the fumes and smell disappeared. No more burning eyes.
@@thomasbriggssr2314 I took it out and have two 1500 watt heaters. Takes a while to warm it up but no smell. I am an x-smoker (quit ten plus years ago) and smells effect me more after I quit.
can i use that indoor home? also in the info they say to use minimum a 100 lbs tank (which not so many people will use 100) because below 100 the performance is not good. look like you use 20lbs. any performance problem?
I notice my propane tank makes an air noise as the heater is on , but when the heater is off it goes away. I checked for leaks no bubbles. Is this normal?
U get a 2 stage regulator I'd say u get close to 1 week of efficient heat per 20 pound tank during months of October and November and April I heat with wood in winter and use this to supplement for about the same tank life it lowered my heat bill from 450 to usually less than 200 per month but also I'm actually warm too. But maybe if u run on high for 15 hours straight u could be right. I tend to run as needed
That's probably correct if you assume that you run the unit on max. Their 30,000 BTU/hr figure is the highest they can advertise. So on the lower settings I'd imagine a few days. I'll let you know how it goes. It's going to be 0-15 above and I put a half filled 20lb tank on it to heat an entire house to prevent freeze up that was already at 32*F to start. I set it to about 1.5. If it last 24 hours I'd be highly impressed.
Looks like you put it up on a table and the tank under the table, I see online people must put the tank in the wall or outside and run the line, is it ok, to just sit the tank right next to the heater? Want to use this in the living room to save on electric then eventually use it in the basement so a temporary set until i get the pellet stove set up in the living room.
I'm just wondering how would the propane last I wonder if it would eat through propane my furnace just went down last week and I can't get a new one until spring

How cold does it get in your area? I’m trying to buy one of those that you have hanging on the wall for my garage, but I don’t know if it will hear my garage. I live in Minnesota and it gets really cold here
A heat pump gives you 3$3 of heat for $1 of power (your most efficient option). For that I suggest a heatpump window unit. If you want _FAST_ occasional heat then Natural gas or Propane. You need to blow the heat from the ceiling so you're better off a "hung" forced air gas space heater.
Will it be possible to convert the propane version to natural gas? A friend of mine just gave me this heater and I want to hook it up in the garage but would rather have it run on natural gas.

I don’t understand why I enjoyed the “whats in the box” addition so much. But i did lol 👍
TY for linking the regulator and adaptor
The block walls might be sucking the heat out too and that’s why the electric was struggling, put in some fir strips and insulation board to help more
