Good explanation!! So can I assume, being a Vodka person at this stage of my distilling journey that perhaps I should be looking at a 2" bubble plate for the shiny new Mighty Mini that is one the way? Thanks!
Absolutely! You can throw that bubble plate right on the lid of the mighty mini. If you have the mighty mini pro you can put one in your 2" sight glass as well
EXCELLENT! Will put that on my next order...just waiting for FedEx to deliver my mini pro this morning. Thanks for the speedy reply!@@milehidistilling1
If I'm understanding the question right, you would need about 3" distance between each plate to avoid them bumping into each other and also leaving some comfortable space between them.
You can upload to an unlisted video to TH-cam and send me a link if you'd like! Or, you're welcome to send me a copy at boo@milehidistilling.com, but you might have to shrink the file size or find a program like TransferNow to send large media files
I'm confused. Do both sight glasses fog? I thought the bubble plates would bubble in the sight glass, and the downcomer wouldn't. But it looks like it's the opposite?
Hi there. Both bubble. Because we were demonstrating with water rather than alcohol, it affected the amount of bubbling the plates did. The bubble plates do have a more controlled bubble compared to the downcomer, though.
@@milehidistilling1 Thanks for that. By change do you know if George mixed up the plate names? He seems to say bubble plates while showing what appears to be down combers.
That's not wrong, no worries. The "perforated" refers to the holes throughout the plate, so that's correct terminology. If you want to get technical these are perforated plates with a downcomer stem soldered onto them.
Dang! nice if you have 4" still cuz you make them for those...what do you have for my 2" still? no, nothing! bummer (lol) I have been using ceramics and marbles when I reflux my Mighty Mini, but recently I have been double distilling...kinda wish I could use either for my still
Thanks for the input, man. We're figuring this all video editing stuff out as we go, so there's been a learning curve for sure. We'll definitely be adding some audio gain to videos from now on. Shine on
You are partially correct. It's the main source of reflux, but not the ONLY source of reflux in a still. The Russian comment tells me you're not the smartest guy around though, so it's okay to not know these things. Thanks for the view!
@milehidistilling1 I stated controlled reflux... not that it is only source of reflux. Your comeback is quite 😁 funny... there is so so much in these statements that are not quite right... like a russian media statement. That's not a reflection of my educational or experience. But you comeback reflects poorly in yours.

@@davidhunt7819 Bubble plates ALSO can be controlled. Depending on how many caps you put on the top side, the plates will change the amount of reflux they provide. I'll admit there was some misinformation on this video which I touched on in another video, but it's funny how you're also wrong about bubble plates but acting so confident that you're right. Do you care to provide examples on all the misinformation I spread? I'm more than happy to touch on them.
I use a combo of 5 and 5 in one of your 4” stills. Great liquor!
Nice! I'll have to give this ratio a shot! And I bet it's really clean spirit since you have one of our flute stills. Keep it up!
You can't beat the cool factor of the bubble plates. If you want to impress your buddies when they come over, the bubble plates are a lot more showy.

For vodka use packed column, unless 6ou have room for 10+ plates.
2" column 48" tall packed will get you to 95%abv that you are looking for.
Thanks
You're welcome, Mick!
What is the minimum distance between bubble plates? So i can keep my stack smaller.

It is dependent on how you run your still. I've managed 2" fine. So many things wrong in this video. It scares me
Is there a place I can upload a video of my still running?

@@WildernessMedic Hey there. I'm not sure if you're talking about a certain video with George, I'm unfortunately not aware of that.
Nope, I use sight glass with bubble plates on top and the bottom. I like see the volume of reflux from the dephlegmater and going back to my boiler.
Ive been calling my plates "perforated" for past 6 years

Hey, man. We do, I showed the 2" in the video. milehidistilling.com/product/2-inch-copper-bubble-cap-plate-includes-bubble-plate-gasket/
This is so funny, this guy doesn't have a clue 😂😂
Can you explain what we got wrong in this video? Curious on that.
guys, fix your sound, it is so awful...barely can hear anything.

Maybe you should invest in hearing aids
Must be russian such bad advice. What controls the amount of reflux is your deglagnator. Seek better advice than this dude
