The iPhone 12 was in Dark Mode for a little while during the test. You can tell at around 4:12 when he checks the battery percentages, plus you can see TH-cam is in dark mode on the iPhone 12 when he opens the app to play the videos shortly after. Remember that Dark Mode has more of an impact on the phones with an OLED screen (12, 13 and 13 mini) because that part of the display literally turns the pixels off to save battery life when displaying black and to get darker blacks. This could potentially be why the iPhone 12 won the test.
4:03 Noticed the 12 was set to dark mode for a portion of the video, it’s possible this alone could have somewhat contributed to the end results. As others have also pointed out, IOS 15.4 with it’s battery drain issues could have very well been the leading cause as to why the 12 surpassed the 13 towards the end of the video.
Also, I saw a video which showed (using 2 iPhone 13’s I believe) that a phone with OLED display set to dark mode lasts approximately 14% longer than the same phone set to light mode-because on OLED displays, darker pixels use less energy than lighter pixels unlike on LCDs.
It seems like iOS 15.4 has a negative impact on the battery life of the iPhone 13 and 13 mini. Those phones had shorter battery life and ram much hotter than it should. In most battery tests, the 13 and 13 mini would have been 1st and 2nd place respectively.
Also agree-seen several other battery tests where the 13 mini lasted longer than the 12; and the 13 blew the 12 right out of the water. I got my mini with iOS 15.1 pre-installed and started noticing the overheating issue once I upgraded to iOS 15.4 a couple of days ago. Hopefully this issue will be addressed in next update since this will negatively impact long term battery health.
My 13 mini definitely lost some stamina with 15.4. I still get through a day easy, but in the first month I had it,I would wake up the next day with 54%. After 15.4 i probably wake up with 20%. My battery is 100%,so maybe next update will fix it but probably not.

Great comparison
The reason why the iPhone 12 was at 7% and the 13 was at 10% was because on the iPhone 12 the video was still playing while you kept exiting out, while on the 13 it was paused (bc of TH-cam premium not on there)
But it doesn’t rlly matter since it still won
How about battery health of each units ?
I love how this test doesn’t really match everybody else’s test
The most realistic battery test I've ever seen about those phones.
Thank you for this awesome video
iOS15.4 literally killed my battery on the XR
Try 15.4.1, which is out. I noticed the same issue on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and after installing 15.4.1, the original battery life has returned. No more 50% drains in a day of light usage. I'm still at 79% from a full charge yesterday afternoon.
I was suprised by iphone 12 batterylife, i had iphone x before, and batterylife on 12 is so much better
How many days can you get with a full charge phone?
@@casvanarkel about one day, it depens how much im using it during the day, but morning i unplug it and evening/night it still have some battery left, so i guess that enough, there are one day phones at least for me, i charge my phone every night.
thank you ,XR its a still a good deal :),as you said 11 its much better than se3
Good video 👍
Are they all running on ios 15.4.1 ?
In Celsius?
You gonna try this again with the ios 15.4.1?
I have the se 2020 and the battery sucks , the Xr is better also for display
Bro all iPhone volume are full or not?
Are they all 100% BH or some of them are below 100%?
For anyone who’s is the market for a 13 mini, it does get hot but only if you record videos for too long, battery is not really an issue cause with about 90 percent unplugged at 8 in the morning I come back home with about 15 percent at 930 in the night with about 6 hours of screen on time so yeah it’s cool
Thanks 🙂
Thanks!
This is so satisfying
You should have done 15.4.1
Would have liked the same
Right!!!!
That’s why I’m not getting rid of my iPhone 12 Prc
Thank you
Wow that was surprising! Just curious what was the room temperature ruffly (think your American but no idea what state tho) is it hot or cold where you are - meaning any aircon or heating on or just an average 20°c temperature
Just wondering background temperature as seems the 13mini got way to hot like and if the room temperature would have played a part in that (probably not all that much but idk)
Anyway doubt you’ll see this but keep up the good work! Cya on the next video

This battery test blew my mind!.I really thought the 13 would win and outlast the 12!!.Wow!.Thanks Brandon your dedication is insane!🔥🔥🫶!.
bro calm down lmao
this video especially for me, brings to the conclusion that i didnt regret buying the xr early this year. still got the performance i need and the battery is truly amazing, i think xr is a better deal than se 2nd or even the 3rd gen.
Good thing I still have my iphone 12
Should I buy the iPhone 12 in this year?
Very surprised, 13 lineup suppose to have approximately 2 extra hours of battery life
Only ancient Americans still measure in fucking Fahrenheit, while the rest of the world uses °C.
Downvote from me! Also no SIM card = meh.
@9:27 Iphone SE-R?
Thank you for dis video 🙏🏽😄😌 iPhone 12 user like me
Excellent another test on iOS 15.4.1 for all these phones please
