I don't get the Vanillite hate. Sure it looks like ice cream, but it's not actually edible and it isn't what it visually represents. It's simply a pun put into action. when you think of ice pokemon, it isn't "Farfetch'd" to think "ice cream."
Castform was added to introduce the implication of Weather and how it could potentially affect a battle. I think it's cute and has a very great concept. Maybe if they added an evolution to make it stronger? Like Togekiss for example.
It's nice to see someone else who appreciates Pokémon for it's concepts and designs instead of only focusing on competitive use. I for one think Luvdisc is cute too, even if I never use it in battle.

I love Castform! I took mine all the way to the Elite Four as a kid and beat the Elite Four with it too. The fact it changes appearance and it's move weather ball changes to the type of weather to be the coolest thing!

I think people should just shut up about competitive stuff and enjoy the story, rather than going all the way around a region scanning the Pokemon's competitiveness or hunting down certain Pokemon, certain TMs and certain items. I agree that deep sea blob fish looks ugly but, sorry for the "achtu-aly", they live so far below the ocean the pressure is tremendously intense and it looks nothing like that until it washes ashore from a bad storm. The way I justify the designs of the Vanillite line for myself is by assuming that Vanillite existed before ice cream did in the pokemon universe and whoever invented it based it on them

I know Vanillite is adorable and everything, but some people seem to completely ignore it pokedex entry. Especially the little bit where it mentions its breathe being -53 degrees, which is colder than both Poles of the Earth and the coldest place in Russia. So while this thing is adorable, it can kill you just by breathing. But hey, it could do you a favor and make the outside air so old that school is canceled, and is even a pal you can take with you when going to the desert. Vanillite is soooo adorable.

I agree with your philosophy that not every Pokémon should be competitive. With eight hundred plus creatures in the series (and more to come, no doubt) not all of them have to be specifically designed for competitive play. After all, the original intent with the series was the collection aspect, not the combative. Sure the competitive aspect has taken the forefront in more recent games, I think we should still enjoy the backbone of the franchise, the thing that made it special to begin with: catching them all.
