So no biggie as I'm sure there isn't much there in the lore anyway, However if you want more backstory on Ghaul you'd have to look into Calus and moreso Caiatl. Hope I spelled her right! Ghaul was a protege I believe and he was the direct mentor to Caiatl. I vaguely remember a origin story of him being rescued by Calus as a child for his hardiness or something? Caiatl learned as much as she could from Ghaul while still feeling novice compared to him. Season of the haunted recently touched on these aspects yet around the leviathan era it went deeper, it also portrayed Caiatl's mentor as mysterious, political, and far reaching in some sense. Quick question? Who wore the Bane mask first? Ghaul or Bane lmfao 🤣!?
Explaining why the satellites were down at the beginning: one of The Nine disabled them. In short, The Nine are only sentient because of life in Sol. One of the Nine went rogue and decided to bet it all on the Cabal Empire instead of Humanity, not knowing the cabal's plan was to destroy sol. The One was punished for this, having their influence on Sol severely weakened.
@@onyonrong9244 in the collectible books you get throughout the game. There are a few channels that dedicate themselves to the lore of Destiny so you don't have to hunt them down. MyNameisByf is one of those channels. I think IshtarCollective is another.
ghauls armor is actually genius by design and true to his character, if you read the description of legend of acrius exotic shotgun it's basically a story about Icarus from Greek mythology, ghaul idolized acrius which in turn is what he based his armors design off of because he himself strived to do what acrius in his tale did.
The whole sattelites not being there situation was actually explained in some dep lore. The nine blinded all of the vanguard's recon, satelite and radar systems. Can't remember why, but that's that
@omensoffate if you're talking about bungies bad writing by filling a plot hole later I agree. I initially just agreed with everyone about the Nine blinding the vanguard but upon looking into it I found that the lore book this was in was written a year later. So personally I think Bungie fixing that issue later is kinda bullshit. I'm planning on addressing it in my next destiny video
The one thing most people don’t know is that the speaker DOES get visons and can hear the traveler’s voice thanks to mask he wore, he just lied to mess with Ghaul
Exactly. I mentioned on a reddit post once how I was surprised how little we mention the speaker now since he was so important, and people were replying saying how he was pointless and basically a religious figure. But no, he was actually somewhat in ties with the traveler, and was very important
To clarify, many people get the visions The Speaker gets, it’s just he made a mask which amplified them and made them a lot more clear for him to understand. So he wasn’t lying to Ghaul when he said “I never said it spoke to me” because it doesn’t. The Traveler essentially just talks to itself / the universe calling out and giving visions, it almost never directly speaks to an individual. The Speaker is simply tapping into it like a radio that’s constantly tuned into a news station and he relays that information to the city. HOWEVER he does have a bit of a power problem becoming a bit of a religious figure due to his connection with the traveler, when he speaks it’s the equivalent of The Traveler speaking and as such his opinions were given much more strength and he didn’t take too well to opposition *ahem Osiris* and as such many in the city don’t speak too highly of him
I do believe he was a lightbearer too though- in the lore we had of him pre-plunder its heavily implied he used to be or at least has a comparable power that allowed him to effectively act as a guardian.
@@ThePlatinumMeta he was also wrong about felwinter, as he was a warlord and he's pretty bad at his arguments,a gaurdian is a lightbearer that defends the last safe city, sinds d1 anyone rezzed by a ghost is known as a risen/lightbearer this was destiny 1 lore as in those times before the last safe city there were warlords and eventaully iron lords
The Red War is the definition of "wasted potential". Like all you do is traverse the old tower, go to a small new area, and you have a cutscene and your already on the main ship. Like it would've been SO COOL if you know, TRAVEL THROUGH THE LAST CITY!!! Defending fellow Guardians, saving citizens, etc you know WHAT A GUARDIAN IS!!! This whole motto of D2 was "what does it mean to be a guardian?" and they THROW IT AWAY 10 minutes later...
The original version of Destiny 2 actually had us walking through the Last City before the main assault, with a tutorial woman telling us the controls and giving us a backstory for everything (it was revealed with a credible leaker)
I would have appreciated some understanding or praise behind certain decisions. Such as showing the Cabal Icon before Ghaul cutscenes. It's easy to see much of Destiny is about iconography and symbols. It's hard to get through this because every second is a criticism and not all of it is constructive
It's been a minute, but do you think you could point out what isn't constructive or comedic? Also the Cabal icon before the cutscene is really dumb. While the logo is nice, an establishing shot works just as well and doesn't feel like Bungie treating the audience like children.
19:07 LOL 1. Felwinter wasn't evil, he was apart of the Iron Lords. He broke the rule they had of perma-killing other Risen though. He was actually an Exo body of Rasputin that was resurrected as a Risen (before they were called Guardians). 2. Nezarec wasn't a Guardian, if you did Season of the Plunder, you would know he was an ancient Disciple of the Witness... 3. If you read the lore on Dredgen Yor, you would know there have been some... exaggerations on things when it comes to the Dredgens.
Okay, but I never said felwinter was evil. I said he killed fellow light bearers. Also I thought Nezerec was a guardian but whatever, and dredgen yor definitely killed guardians since it's legit told to us in the lore. I never stated any of them where evil, just that they've killed people dispite having the light (with the exception of nezerec I guess lol)
@@Nanokk_ my dude, don't take this in a bad way but, do some research and read the lore related to the topic, you would love it too. Try the ishtar collective
@@carlithocloutriguez5315 can you point out some of those things I missed? I would be interested to see if it's anything I already haven't addressed and I'll give you a response. Also it's fine of it's something I've already addressed but extra points if it isnt
@@Nanokk_ just a little point you missed when talking about the design of IO, the reason it looks so off in game is because originally it was an expansion to the Mars destiny 1 location.
The red war will always have a place in the game to me. Nothing compares to us losing everything we had and having to regain it slowly taking out ghouls highest members till we finally get to face him
When I clicked on this I was confused by how little people had seen this, and I still am! Thanks for this video and I’ll stick around for the future videos.
I hope they bring the red war campaign back. It had a good story and cinematic scenes and soundtracks. Thx man for pushing this content and I’m glad it’s not dead.
So I gave it a full watch originally wrote a fairly in-depth critique to this critique, and unfortunately before I realized it I had comment that was so long and I couldn't submit it without giving me a constantly Returned error. (I can try to find a way to link it you in the comments, or make a comment chain to give the whole thing if you so chose.) Because there's a lot of stuff you brought up that I believed should be addressed. So instead here's the more condensed and concise comment: While I think you bring up some fair details and criticisms in regards to the Red War campaign worth bringing up (like the Cayde teleporting thing which I hadn't considered and is a good observation) a lot of the video came off as whinging and nit-picky versus the few things I found substantive or compelling arguments especially regarding Ghaul. *For example:* You complain about how much you hate him without looking into why he's designed that way. In fact, you speak of environmental storytelling, but Ghaul's design being the "Michilan Man-Gundam". Yet his white and gold armor was something gifted to him be Emperor Calus, whom he previously dethroned. It matches the aesthetics of the Leviathan Raid Armor and weapons. The reason he looks the way he does is to convey authority and regality, along tying him back to and foreshadowing Calus. This is just one issue I noticed in regards to your critique of Ghaul. Plus some of the corrections/suggestions you offer we're...I'll be honest, really poor. Like "Humanity could team up with The Hive to fight the Cabal, take back the Light, and then turn on the Hive!" almost made me do a spit-take. Was that suggestion meant to be a joke? Because IMHO that's a far worse writing choice than anything in the Red War campaign. You expect a race who genocided trillions to work with their now depowered foes, to defeat the Cabal from taking The Light, and then expect Guardians to take back the Light before The Hive killed Humanity? Heck, you expect the Hive to even agree to work with the Lightless Guardians and not just murder them outright for multiple obvious reasons. You also bring up the other ways that Light has been drained...not mentioning such methods end up corrupting or turning those who wield into sadistic, murdering psychopaths (see Dredgen Yor). Plus the "BUNGIE YOU'RE SO DUMB" moments felt extremely off-putting and childish, especially when your suggested corrections leave much to be desired. Also you bring up "why didn't Ikora and other Guardians just try to take the Traveler's energy and Light from Io?!" Despite there being a mission on Io not long after that mission, in which Asher tries to just that. Turns out, it doesn't work like it was intended and could detrimentally effect Io (as in turning it from stable and habitable back to the hellscape it was). Which by the way, looks the way it does because the Traveler wasn't finished working on it. It did enough to make stable and habitable, but not enough to make flourishing like Venus or ancient Mercury, hence why it's in that state it's in. That said, I think you definitely have potential despite my thoughts on your critique. You have have a solid footing for foundation, editing, and structure of said review videos. You also clearly put a lot of well-placed effort in this video and given it's nearly 1 hour, I imagine it took a lot of time to make the script for, edit, and so forth. You've also been extremely responsive to feedback and constructive, which I laud you for and hope you continue for this and other endeavors. I hope this smaller version of my critique was helpful even if you end up disagreeing. It'd be up for a civil debate or discussion if you'd like. Maybe there is something I missed.
Wow, okay first thanks for writing this, I think criticism is definitely worth while. I've already seen many people discuss errors I made that where in the lore, honestly I'm not suprised I missed some stuff since there's so much of it. To cover the ghaul part, I didn't look at ghauls design that way, but you make a good point. I didn't know ghaul got his armor from Calus but it makes perfect sense. Calus loves his flashy gold stuff so ghauls armor replicates that pretty well. For the Hive argument, that was supposed to be a throwaway suggestion, not ment to be taken super serious. I understand how you could be taken aback by it lol. The part about asher Mir trying to get the light from IO I'm suprised I missed that because I watched this footage over three times and made multiple revisions. I really enjoyed reading this and I'm very pleased you actually took the time to write this all out. I'm really curious to see what the whole critique of my critique is, if there's any way you would wanna reach out just leave it below. As someone who's new to videos this damn long I'm bound to make mistakes so I wanna hear them now rather than when I've fucked up so bad it can't be reversed.
@@Nanokk_ You’re most welcome, and thanks for the receptive and cordial response. If I can find a way to send my full critique I will, just not sure how to do do. You’re also most welcome for the feedback! Here’s a bit of advice I’ll give in regards to feedback that can make all the difference: Be apt and discerning in your criticism. If you can try to understand why someone might’ve made that decision even if it was ultimately poor or you disagree with it. Sometimes it’s because someone rushed and didn’t think something through, but sometimes it could be for a good reason one might not have considered. IMHO, when it comes to BUNGIE and Destiny, it tends to be mix depending on the context. Ask around to see what people liked and disliked, see if there’s a common thread or even information you from a less expressed opinion you might have not have considered that has merit. I think also limiting or being selective with hyperbole will go a long way.
I'm someone who loves shitting on destiny quite a lot, but even I am blown away by the sheer amount of pedantry you focus on. Ghaul's armour looks like that because he wants to be a lightwielder, and you focus so much on that it's bizarre.
You had lots of valid criticism, but throught the middle point of the video it all just became "Bungie bad, Bungie dumb, I know better, this would be better, they should have done like this", it's really easy having the hind sight and speak of a position of disconect from the whole development process of the game. Should have kept it practical and focused, you let your personal grievances take the better of you.
I get your point but as he said early, "if you love something, you get to criticize it" and I think that is the reason why he was so harsh in the middle. As a long time destiny player myself, i have seen the highs and low points of destiny and i do understand his opinion on it.
@@GameyGamer75 In the middle it stopped being criticism, he was just raving about what he dreamt, how he wanted things to be, not how it should hava been improved.
I thought at first this would be like gameplay or a documentary or even a retrospective, but got more than I initially thought, great job! Great video. Tip: If this is gonna be a series try changing the name of the vid to be more like "The Red War: A campaign retrospective" and the name of the series be like "From Dusk to Lightfall" to be more clear what your intention is at first glance, that may attract more people to the video!
Thank you for enjoying the video! I think the idea of a title change may work IF I decide to make it a series, as mentioned there's a lot of things holding me back from making those videos. But if I do decide to turn this into a series I'm definitely going to update the title!
The whole sacrifice angle is because us guardians, in our previous lives, displayed acts of heroism and sacrifice. That's why the cosmodrome, a place where many people acted in aid and defence, and defiance, for the many more people who tried to escape on the colony ships, is the birthplace of many guardians. My problem is that even if it makes sense that we wouldnt see this information in the main campaign, its so hidden in the lore that only 1000iq people like mynameisbyf and other youtubers of his sort are giving us this information. I agree with you on many points, including the missed opportunities of io, but i wholeheartedly diagree with you saying its hideous. The supervolcano in the dstance, the massive jupiter in the sky, and the abundance of fossils and dead plants all around, hinting at what once was. Considering we can breathe on the moon, i don't think the air on io may actually have been all that purified, it's more likely we just have more of that light magic. Who said the traveler terraformed it for humanity, and not a unique local biosphere? The way the rocks and landforms are shaped too, it does kinda look like cooled and hardened lava, dont you think? I do agree it, along with many other places even now, need more substance and unique gameplay elements, but io is my favourite of the vaulted locations.
From the point of view of a player who had never played 1 I found the Red War brilliant from A to Z except Nessus, that's why I play the game today but with hindsight I I totally agree on almost everything, I think Bungie should bring back the Red War but in demo form for new players, as it would be a demo veterans might just not install it....
14:50 Lore wise, it's been months since you lost your light. Traveling from the Last City, to The Farm, took months. I do not think the game would have been enjoyable for people to do so many missions without the light, would just be practically a normal shooter game.
Ya know what would've been awesome and honestly pretty easy is for Bungie to tell us that it's been a few months and not just hide it away in the lore somewhere
I loved the critiques and analysis you did for the Red War and showing how Bungie missed so many chances to tell a better story or make a a greater campaign, but I felt like the IO section of the video was more of ranting than pointing out flaws in the story. Also, the Traveler is paracausal in nature, literally universe defying and ignoring the laws of reality stuff, (whether realistic or not ( I don't really care)), so IO not being realistic to real life IO seems a little silly. But the critique of IO being a boring destination is true, and the rest of the video was alright as well.
The opening portion where you critique the reasoning for why the cabal made through without any trouble. Apparently the Nine cloaked them for some reason so they could make it through
I think along with the cabal killing guardians they could’ve shown the ghosts fleeing and then we could see them in hidden places cowering and after you complete the story they disappear from their spots showing that they went off to revive another person “worthy” of the light. That would also help play into the story without saying anything and showing how fragile every guardian not connected to the light are.
Been play8ng destiny ever since alpha and honeatly i lovedddd the red war campaign. It was something diffrent and the soundtrack really played into all the little things that happened
Writing this hardly 20 minutes in, I got into Destiny during the Rise of Iron DLC of D1 and ended up falling for the game. I've played D2 on and off since release and honestly this vid is funny as hell to me and so so accurate to what was going on in the game. I absolutely love the vid so far and I'm so glad for the algorithm for once
like i wont lie, I really enjoyed the campagin as it was even with all of its flaws, but as I know now, there was a lot that could've made it better. The bottom line for me is that I would rather the new lights and playerbase as a whole to be able to experience the Red war without improvement than to not at all. The new light experience now compared to the Red War is lacking in many aspects
Found this vid in my recommend and am surprised by how this came to me, but am glad it did since I thoroughly enjoyed it. Let's hope the TH-cam algorithm blesses you on this day!
Awesome video man. Given how convoluted the games lore is at this point, I think some of the stuff other people in the comments are complaining about can be forgiven. Outside of that, I completely agree with this video. The last three missions were the only ones that were worth playing imo, outside maybe the first. Can’t wait to see your video on Warmind and Curse of Osiris
This is actually one of the best video game analysis I've seen especially for a game like destiny which I know we have Byf but he doesn't go in-depth on the characters and set pieces of the campaigns them selves and its really impressive that a channel of your size can make such a good video
17:30. Manny the Mammoth was a challenge to do in The Ice Age animated movie. Because they had to rely mostly on his eyes/brow for expressions. But they did a good job of showing people how to do it. Guess what Karen, Bungie did a good job of Ghaul with his expressions as well, as limited as they were.
not to mention he needs the mask. The cabal cannot breathe our air. They probably shouldve even given him a full helmet to help with the pressurisation. The reason cabal heads explode into weird liquid is just that, they need pressurised suits to survive our atmosphere. But obviously making ghaul wear full headgear would make it hard to see him as a living being from a story perspective, so they did what they could
@@embyveddii Yeah, they have done a pretty good job with Caital though so they seem to have improved on that front. But I feel bad for the animators since they had nothing to work with lol
@@Nanokk_ not me a year later realizing i've watched this before and finding out I was glazing bungie hardcore. Nah I agree with you now that line was ass.
As true as many of your points are in this video, I feel like its unfair to complain so much about the colour of Io. I think you are the first person to ever compare what a destiny locale looks like in real life and be so pissed about it. The traveler is known for terraforming and scrutinising how Io's colour is the same despite it being a habitable place honestly just seems like clutching at straws. The design of destiny has been one of the few consistently excellent aspects of the game and its important to remember that its a fantasy game too.
Well there's a first for everything, but it was a greater point about how it was a huge missed opportunity when it came to the patrol space as a whole. I'm not saying it looks awful, definitely not my favorite area but I'd be lying if I said that parts of it don't look great. And while it may be fantasy, it's still science fiction. Wanting some things to make sense and grounded in reality shouldn't be a huge ask tbh...
Holy moly this is a fantastic video my man! I can only imagine how long it took to piece together an hour of footage with your awesome commentary.. don't let low numbers get to your head, and NEVER stop making vids brotha. ❤
I've been playing this game for 8 whole years, this brought back so many memories, thank you so much. I will definitely be sticking around for future videos 😌❤
This was a good watch. While you could definitely be harsh at times, you echoed the way I felt back when I played through the initial campaign. Your story and character criticisms were on point. Of course, my opinion on The Red War has definitely softened with time, especially since as you pointed out, Bungie threw it in the trash where it's likely to stay. In some ways it feels like this video is 5 years too late, but it's a blast to the past - not just in the retrospective of the campaign itself, but in holding up a mirror to a lot of my feels from a half decade ago. Good luck in college! While I'd like to see more content from you and you are clearly skilled at it, keep your priorities straight.
Hey man I really appreciate that. I've actually still have my first draft of my script about the game from all the way back at around the release of shadowkeep, the reason I didn't release the video sooner was because I didn't think the script was good enough and neither was my patience to edit a video this long. (Also my editing at that time was AWFUL)
I may have already played the Red War when it was still around before Beyond Light, but I still like to listen and remember the campaign. A lot more memorable start than whatever tf the New Lights have now.
really great video detailing the flaws of red war (didn't talk about some bugs but thats fine) and how they can improve on it but this would've been an amazing video if it was released all the way back in the time of red war as they have tried fixed most of the inconsistencies in the game's storytelling (still work to be done but much better than red war), overall the flaws pointed out were the major issues with the game and now its getting better enjoyed the ramble of the flaws and wish for u to continue more ;)
I started playing Destiny in Season 17 when Halo finally shat the bed. I never got to play the Red War and you're the first person to give an objective view of the campaign. Most people view it through rose tinted glasses and say it was great. You bring up some really good points. It's not horrible, but it could've been much better
the reason io looks so boring is because it was originally planned to be mars. But since they already had mars for the warmind dlc they decided to simply change the colors and call it io. I think there’s also a d1 crucible map that took place in the pyramidion but in mars.
Great vid man and arguably more entertaining than the turgid Red War campaign itself! Nice that they’ve got the story telling into a reasonable place now and they knocked it out of the park with WitchQueen. I’m hoping for more of the same with Lightfall but I’ll not hold my breath, Bungie have a habit of fucking things up so we’ll see eh… I would definitely watch more vids like this on Destiny and I’d love to hear what you have to say about the dreadful Osiris and Warmind DLCs. Cheers man, subbed 👍
After all the lore buildup to red war, I was sooo disappointed by it. There was definitely improvement afterward but I’m still left feeling bitter because they did so much better later on.
I personally like how ghaul wrk even tho I agree with you how he should work and the the red legion should be plot out more and extend the lore of the cabal then THEY HAVE NEVER KNOWN LOSS
Great vid. I wasn't really that critical of the original campaign when i was playing it. so i just thought it was alright. but it was the introduction for me to destiny so it'll always hold a special place in my heart. also titan (the destination) was fucking goated fr.
I shrugged off this video initially, as another beating of a long dead horse but I was pleasantly surprised when I finally watched this. Instead of another bland critique of a flawed story we all know of, it was an amusing and genuine good points and a great passion for bungie's work. Please upload more of these!
You've got a lot of potential making videos, I feel like in time, you can make some truly great ones. I would just reccomend doing a little more research on the lore before critiquing the story, I know it's really poorly explained for the most part but KNOWING what's going and then critiquing how poorly explained it is would make your critique hold more weight, for example it's completely justified that you didn't know why ghaul looked like that. But I also have to assume that a lot of this video was made during the season of the plunder, which, outright says, not tucked away in a lore tab, but during a cutscene, that nezerac is a Disciple of the Witness and not a guardian. Also perhaps a greater understanding of the world would make your story suggestions a little better? Because while red war is bad, I can't say any of what you offered up as a replacement was better. Anyway, I would love to see you continue this series because in a game like Destiny with so many missed opportunities, Curse of Osiris is a BIGGG missed opportunity, anyway, keep on keeping on.
the red war should’ve and destiny as whole should’ve start using the word light bearer for people who have the ability to use the light instead of using guardians for all people who can use the light a long time ago. and also you would call anyone who has the ability to use light and dark abilities who also happens to not align with the city and vanguard values a rouge light bearer example all the dregens some of calus’s shadows. also the game at the time didn’t tell us this at the time but the power of light and dark aren’t necessarily good and evil. for example the ability to use stasis and the new subclass strand are powers that come from the dark while arc, solar and void are power which are gifted from the light. this is why the lucent brood is able to use light powers.
I mean I'm fine with not understanding everything, it may come as a surprise but I enjoy elden ring and the storytelling. But when it's something as important as how the red legion invaded the last city without the vanguard knowing is something that's kinda important and SHOULD be explained
@@Nanokk_ I mean when I herd them say that I just assumed the satellites were just taken out by the red legion by some stealth missiles or something I didn’t really think it would’ve been anything more
@SyphonEXP no dude they actually explained it, a year later in a lore book... It was a fucking band-aid excuse to explain a huge plot point even THEY didn't think about!
First of all you do know that it’s a video game, a science fiction video game so everything in it is valid. You are criticizing Gaul because he look shiny and clean and not menacing enough for you, and u are comparing him to Oryx! Wow. They are different species, with different structures in their anatomical and social structures so, why would they have to resemble each other? Also the Cabal is like a “Roman” type of culture, that explains Dominos Gauls name and image. Instead of criticizing and trying to sound funny think before you do. There is a reason for everything in that game. Bad video.
You're really going to undermine my ENTIRE video because I didn't think the design of Ghaul matched his character? Which was an overall minor point in the video. I understand his design is based off the Roman's but even then the Roman's had sick ass armor designed for war. The consul has armor that makes him look like a warlord, which is what the cabal have been throughout the entirety of Destiny 1. On a final point, you say I should think before I criticize yet you have a very obvious spelling mistake on Dominus Ghaul. He's a leader not a pizza place
@@Nanokk_ not just that. The entire video is like that. Not just your Gaul observation. You are right about a few things like the guardian should have been dead after that fall. Overall your criticism was weak. It’s a science fiction video game. How much can you say it doesn’t make any sense in science fiction game?
@Ant Gonz okay but science fiction can still be grounded in reality, sure not everything makes sense but it never hurt anyone for something in a science fiction story to make sense. Titan is fairly realistic, I didn't mention it in my video but titan is full of liquid methane and ethane. Combined are denser than water, so the oceans move slower. Bungie themselves follow science when they want to but don't explain it because they would rather have it look cool. Hell people making the argument about the colour of IO don't even know that IO was supposed to be the dead forests of Mars but got a repaint to look more like IO. And the colour doesn't make sense because you can't have vegetation grow on top of pure sulfur like we see on IO. So it doesn't make sense. This mindset that you and many others have of "oh well its science fiction so nothing has to be realistic" is a ridiculous deconstruction of rules and giving a shit about the story you tell. It's when Bungie actively does something to contradict basic rules of science is where I draw the line. Space magic, fine, the traveler gave it to people. But a moon being immune to the pull of several moons and a fucking gas giant without adequate explanation makes zero sense. Unless the traveler somehow saved IO from being torn apart hidden away in the 300 some lore entries about IO I don't see how anyone could defend that one

Crap I just remembered, wasn't there a scene in The Red War where Ghaul donned his ceremonial white leader armor? If not I'm deluded and apologize!
@Sciji there was concept art for it but I don't think it was actually in the game. Check Patrick Bloom on art station

The One was punished for this, having their influence on Sol severely weakened.
is that the same one we see. with that cutscene with drifter?
That’s the Emissary, not one of the Nine. Her name is Orin and she serves the Nine.
When is this explained?
@@onyonrong9244 Grimores, destiny thing.

ghauls armor is actually genius by design and true to his character, if you read the description of legend of acrius exotic shotgun it's basically a story about Icarus from Greek mythology, ghaul idolized acrius which in turn is what he based his armors design off of because he himself strived to do what acrius in his tale did.
The whole sattelites not being there situation was actually explained in some dep lore. The nine blinded all of the vanguard's recon, satelite and radar systems. Can't remember why, but that's that
Yeah I've seen a few people say that, wish I would've known that sooner lol
It was a rogue member of the nine
It would be nice to see that when it was The sole reason why the Cabal were able to capture the traveler. It seems very important to the plot.
@@Nanokk_ eh it’s pretty bad writing to fill a plot hole
HOWEVER he does have a bit of a power problem becoming a bit of a religious figure due to his connection with the traveler, when he speaks it’s the equivalent of The Traveler speaking and as such his opinions were given much more strength and he didn’t take too well to opposition *ahem Osiris* and as such many in the city don’t speak too highly of him
Small error at 19:05, Nezarec was a disciple of the Witness, not a lightbearer.
I do believe he was a lightbearer too though- in the lore we had of him pre-plunder its heavily implied he used to be or at least has a comparable power that allowed him to effectively act as a guardian.
This videos was released before Lightfall came out so I don’t blame him for still believing that nezarec was a guardian still at this point
@@deciding I knew it
yes ... but ours is the best defense, whichs is an offense lmao
19:07 LOL

When I clicked on this I was confused by how little people had seen this, and I still am! Thanks for this video and I’ll stick around for the future videos.
Hey man thank you so much, I really appreciate people enjoying what I put out!
i was thinking the same thing
Agreed
I hope they bring the red war campaign back. It had a good story and cinematic scenes and soundtracks. Thx man for pushing this content and I’m glad it’s not dead.
So I gave it a full watch originally wrote a fairly in-depth critique to this critique, and unfortunately before I realized it I had comment that was so long and I couldn't submit it without giving me a constantly Returned error. (I can try to find a way to link it you in the comments, or make a comment chain to give the whole thing if you so chose.)
Because there's a lot of stuff you brought up that I believed should be addressed.
That said,
I think you definitely have potential despite my thoughts on your critique.
I had no idea you could write a comment this long..
We… are still on destiny right?
YOU PEOPLE ARE BEING NICE TO EACH OTHER AND NOT RAGING OVER OUTFITS!?

This is the great retrospective on this franchise. Love to see this continued. Great video, looking forward for your future vids
Bro listening to you at the end talking about how you're excited for lightfalls campaign made me so sad. That comment aged like milk lol.
This video has CRAZY pvp main player vibes
Bro I'm awful at pvp
I'm someone who loves shitting on destiny quite a lot, but even I am blown away by the sheer amount of pedantry you focus on. Ghaul's armour looks like that because he wants to be a lightwielder, and you focus so much on that it's bizarre.
I love long form vids like this as they’re really nice to listen to while I play games
Thank you for putting in the time to make a nearly hour long video, take your time making your next 💜
It’s actually a really good video, great job
I would love to replay the red war.
This video is super high quality. You deserve more subscribers! I'm excited to see what you do next.
I really loved the red war it’s an underrated campaign
The opening portion where you critique the reasoning for why the cabal made through without any trouble. Apparently the Nine cloaked them for some reason so they could make it through
Awesome vid man! Don't feel pressured to pump out content and take your time this was great!
u forgot there is a guardian camp with audio logs of guardians getting killed after losing their light
Im a fan of the review/Video essay format for Destiny, looking forward to seeing more!
Great video! I really hope to see this series be continued as I am very interested with your thoughts on forsaken.
A truly underrated video
Been play8ng destiny ever since alpha and honeatly i lovedddd the red war campaign. It was something diffrent and the soundtrack really played into all the little things that happened
this video was entertaining as fuck and i would definitely watch reviews of the other d2 campaigns. good shit bro.
The new light experience now compared to the Red War is lacking in many aspects
your part segment about Io is hilarious to me and also extremely accurate in the same regard
okay ngl, when you got to the end of the vid, when you got to the end of the vid and mentioned the title Battlefield 1, my jaw dropped

"lightfall is only a few months away and i could not be more excited to play the story for it" Daaaamn feels bad

Except ice age is a goated movie
not to mention he needs the mask.

Nice video would love to see you make more on the following expansions.
This is awesome!!! I love the you man!!!
I may have already played the Red War when it was still around before Beyond Light, but I still like to listen and remember the campaign. A lot more memorable start than whatever tf the New Lights have now.

Great Video Man 🤌
really great video detailing the flaws of red war (didn't talk about some bugs but thats fine) and how they can improve on it but this would've been an amazing video if it was released all the way back in the time of red war as they have tried fixed most of the inconsistencies in the game's storytelling (still work to be done but much better than red war), overall the flaws pointed out were the major issues with the game and now its getting better enjoyed the ramble of the flaws and wish for u to continue more ;)
I started playing Destiny in Season 17 when Halo finally shat the bed.
Now we wait for curse of Osiris.
I really enjoy your content. Thank You! :)
After all the lore buildup to red war, I was sooo disappointed by it. There was definitely improvement afterward but I’m still left feeling bitter because they did so much better later on.

I shrugged off this video initially, as another beating of a long dead horse but I was pleasantly surprised when I finally watched this. Instead of another bland critique of a flawed story we all know of, it was an amusing and genuine good points and a great passion for bungie's work. Please upload more of these!
bro how is your channel so good?! you deserve way more subs

Okay what does that go against anywhere in my video?
@@Nanokk_ They dont necessarily have to disagree with you to comment this. Probably just wanted to add something
@@embyveddii I guess but if you look at their other comments they don't really approve of the video lol
man i wish we could play this again...
Great Video !!!
You asked what Louis was the pilot of. Im almost fairly certain that he is clearly the pilot of the Millenium Fal.......I'll see myself out sorry 😂
the red war should’ve and destiny as whole should’ve start using the word light bearer for people who have the ability to use the light instead of using guardians for all people who can use the light a long time ago. and also you would call anyone who has the ability to use light and dark abilities who also happens to not align with the city and vanguard values a rouge light bearer example all the dregens some of calus’s shadows. also the game at the time didn’t tell us this at the time but the power of light and dark aren’t necessarily good and evil. for example the ability to use stasis and the new subclass strand are powers that come from the dark while arc, solar and void are power which are gifted from the light. this is why the lucent brood is able to use light powers.
Oh boy after hearting this guys criticism on the storytelling not explaining everything, he gon shit himself when he hears about elden ring
@@Nanokk_ he is not the 🛞 logo as well or the marshmallow man from Ghost Busters.
@@antgonz4436 no he definitely is, cope
