Yup. You could either kill the Hive Knight and Misraakskell would salute and leave or you could attack and kill them both. Letting him go is the canon act.
To answer your comment: You can be absolutely evil and be chosen by the Traveler. The warlords that showed up during the Dark Age varied from decent people to brutal, well, warlords. Indeed, the Lightbearers (generic term for anyone a ghost has infused with the light) fought each other regularly. The only consistency I've seen is that ghosts resurrect people who can fight and have the willingness to kill. Everything else varies.
I can tell you Year 1 was an experience. Not a very good one. Everything was so underpowered back then. Special weapons were power weapons. But the Red War was still fun for what it was worth. 2:38 The Red Legion of the Cabal Empire. They are the elite force of the Cabal and have never had a recorded loss until they came to Sol. 6:31 Fun fact, this sequence was open space. So you could fight along any other players that got to this instance to hold the Courtyard.
100% agree with your assessment. also, the fact that they vaulted the red war was the reason i stopped playing. i have gone back 2-3 times since then, only very briefly, largely because i got nostalgic and after playing for a while i came to the conclusion the "this ain't it".
"Why are new players robbed of this experience?" And that right there is why I swore off D2 when they vaulted the Red War. It was the perfect introduction to the world, the characters, and the action, and gave a good in-universe explanation for D1 veterans getting reset in terms of power. Oh, and "You have forgotten the fear of death - allow me to reacquaint you" is SUCH a great establishing line for a villain. And yes, in a great bit of gameplay and story integration, every story mission was practically a 'No Respawn Zone' until you reached the Shard of the Traveler and reclaimed the Light.
The sad reality of this is that if it this and a few other expansions weren't vaulted then D2 would be over 200 GBs large. Rendering most new players unable to download D2 at all
@@The-ne9ut Really they could start weaving in the earlier campaigns as parts of the seasons. Just make it where each season one of the old campaigns that was vaulted gets brought back for newer players to get to go experience. First sequence in order then after that its random.
Oh give me a break. Such revisionist crap. The Red War campaign was highly criticised upon release for a cookie cutter main villian and hackneyed storytelling. Don't even get me started on Vanilla Destiny 2 gameplay. One of the most stupid reasons to not continue with the franchise.
@@TheSmurf1973 It really isn't. "Don't you have to be a good person [for the Traveler to choose you?]" Nope! Plenty of real awful people were given the Light and did some terrible things with it in the Dark ages. The Warlords and Iron Lords had a very bloody conflict that killed lots of innocent people. In the early days, many Lightbearers used their power to oppress.
I remember hearing somewhere that Destiny 2's intro with Ghaul kicking us off the ship was supposed to be our old Guardian dying. We were supposed to awaken as a new Guardian from a wayward Ghost that was splintered from the shell cast off by the Traveler at the Collapse. This would have brought us new cosmetic options and possibly even a new race to pick from. But it never ended up happening, if it was ever real to begin with.
I already knew that the captain was Mithrax, but only now saw that the word "Forsaken" was in his name Like kind of a hint for forsaken, that's why I love Bungie
So I had only played the very base of D1 when this came out and had already loved what D1 had to offer and then I got this which is what actually hooked me in with the music and everything. I know some hard core D1 players were upset with the Red War because it wasn't about the light and dark anymore, but we do eventually get back to that. I still loved this and forsaken and it still hurts that I can't go back and play them both when this is what sucked me in... I love it all
red war alongside curse of osiris, warmind and forsaken (except the dreaming city and post forsaken campaign) are vaulted to free up space, which is dumb decision
they removed the red war and forsaken because the game got to big file size wise and it created issues, everyone is still salty about it and hoping they bring it back
another thing was them having to port everything into the new lighting engine that beyond light introduced, hence why the prophecy dungeon was removed when BL came out and was re-added a couple months later
I would love if they did what the Halo Master Chief collection did and let you optionally install the content to play it on your own or with friends and then uninstall it when youre done and keep everything else
@@terabellum Yeah as far as people in the community go, I'm def understanding of why the vaulting had to happen, but I'm really hoping for something like this to eventually be added
the funny thing is, the file size got too big cause they canceled D3 and put it all into D2, so the real answer, as always, is money. they could have just made everything from forsaken and before an optional download, but nope, they decided to just completely remove content you paid for.
Destiny 2 was my first FPS and is still my main game. This campaign is so dear to me. I miss it immensely and look forward to the day I can play it again.
The problem with this campaign, and why it would make a terrible New Light experience, is because it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the story as a whole. Ghaul is just a villian of the week and died in the campaign in an extremely lackluster boss fight. After all that buildup he was killed with double primaries and almost zero mechanics. But really it'd just confuse new players as it doesn't mention the Darkness, Witness or the Traveler being gone at all. Plus Cayde is still around and going from that to Final Shape it wouldn't mean anything Cayde being back inside the Traveler.
I will say as a new player I didn't appreciate the story at all, I ONLY played D2 never having seen any of the stuff of D1, after just jumping in and having this story go on I didn't feel attachment to anyone or anything so it never felt impactful but now having 5k hours in the game and have memories and connections with all this, yeah it feels way cooler, it just felt like I started the game and then suddenly all this was happening without any time to have MET these people Something I can say is, part of the reason they said they got rid content was the game was getting TOO big, and some of the stuff taking up a huge chunk of space was used by 2% of players, and some of the later stories are REALLY spectacular

The D2 intro mission would definitely be a sick intro for new lights, but the campaign as a whole wouldn't be worth doing tbh. These videos are good about cutting out all the filler that the game made you do.
Reason why Red War, Curse of Osiris and Warmind are sunset is mostly Bungie's Red War has really high production values but the other two DLCs are frankly a bit shit. Mercury's activities were really underwhelming and Mars had one activity that was boring at first but got better overtime. and those expansion's stories are just too singularly character focused and don't push Destiny's overall narrative forward like everything following Forsaken. Red War sort of has this problem too because the whole thing is just an impetus for Ghaul's invasion to alert the Pyramid ships of the Traveler's revival at the end. And main reason: Destiny 2 was getting too big (over 110GB on PS4 before vaulting) and its' size caused some issues with maintaining the game, especially on PS4 and XBONE which they are obligated to keep supporting to some degree They used the loss of Io, Mars, Mercury and Titan to add stakes to Season of Arrival, Oryx can take souls, well the Witness can take whole fucking planets etc etc Red War shoulda stuck around for New Lights with some context on who Osiris and Ana Bray are I agree, just to onboard players who are lost otherwise.
Yeah, just watching the campaigns won't allow you to understand the Destiny story. Witch Queen is where they started having great in-game stories, only for them to immediately go backwards with the terrible Lightfall story. You'll need to watch Byf of Acendant Nomad videos to really understand what's going on. Res War has nothing to do with the story as a whole either.
Man rewatching the red war through vids like this hurts.. i finally have a drip on my titan that im proud of! And we dont get awesome cutscenes these days, like we did in the red war....cool cutscenes? Yes. Perfect cutscenes like in the red war? No. My titans look wouldve been perfect for the red war arc!!!! Super weird. My skin is the same as thqt guardian, and the ghost is the same as the one i wouldve been using during the red war(when i replayed it). When i saw it i legit thought it was my gameplay till i remembed i played hunter at the time so my character was different
The reason why this was vaulted among other things was because the game size was getting to big. Also Destiny 2 changes in-game depending on various things. For example the Traveler isn't present above the city anymore. So it wouldn't make sense from a lore perspective for new Guardians. THAT BEING SAID I absolutely agree that this and any other content shouldn't have been vaulted. But that's the problem of Destiny 2. It doesn't work as a continuous live service game. It was a major mistake on Bungie's part to go down that route. The game works best with having a beginning and end just like D1.
ahhh , i don´t like this player POV when i saw it in Definitely not definitive , it rushes straigh foward the missions too much , it cuts some dialogues and the hidden dialogues can´t be showed because this playtrought is not from year 1 gameplay , plus his avatar being to overpowered .
