    I subbed ya! I don't own a Porsche but I do love me some Manual transmission! LOL. My E46 M3 as the 6 Speed manual and some day I'll be chasing the second gear Synchromesh as well! Great helpful videos thank you! I found you through "LSC" after seeing your comment and noticing you name must be a channel.

      Hey Greg, thanks for subbing! So cool you have an E46 M3; I’d love to get my hands on one of those some day! Thank you for the compliments on the channel, glad you enjoy the content, and cool you found me through LSC; that’s a fantastic channel.

    My 996 2nd gear is beginning to complain. In my past I did a DIY bearing replacement in a Honda manual gearbox. Your giving me confidence, thank you for these videos.

      Bummer that your 2nd gear is starting to give you troubles! Happy to help. If you have experience working on transmissions then I'm sure you'd be able to get it done on your 996.

    You are brave! DIY transmission work scares me much more than engine work. I have a 2000 996 that shifts perfectly. I try to use the gears minimally to slow down, especially 2nd gear. Brake pads are quite a bit cheaper than parts and labor to replace syncros and gears, not to mention clutch assemblies. Looking forward to seeing it running as new.

      It certainly freaked me out a lot too, having had no experience with it beforehand. However, it's not actually so bad, compared to engine work.
      Good thinking for taking it easy on your transmission. Hopefully that keeps your synchro hardware for years to come. Unfortunately, in my case, the track isn't a conducive environment for taking it easy on synchros haha. So it was time to renew it all for me for track duty.

    I didn't catch, what size PVC pipe did you use?

    Great work! Thinking about talking this project myself now that my 2nd gear is starting to show signs of wear…
    Do you happen to have a parts list for all the OEM parts your ordered for your refresh?

      Thank you!! Yea, it’s worth doing because it won’t get any better. It’s a little bit of a tricky job, so just be careful and don’t rush it.
      Basically everything pertaining to the 2nd gear and 2nd gear synchro are brand new. The synchro hub assembly, which includes the detents, and outer ring, 2nd gear itself, then the rings that make up the synchro. Not cheap, but it is what it is. All of that can be found on FCP Euro and / or Pelican Parts. If you want specific part numbers, shoot me an email at vfgautowerks@gmail.com. I could write up a little reference list for you.

      Great video, thank you it. I need to do this myself, can you send me the same pdf for the gear please?

    Do you remember how much you had to heat everything to fit them onto the shaft?

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do! I heated each item at 350degF for about 15 mins each.

      @@FunAhead_TV_Official Thank you! I’m looking to tackle this job sooner or later. Need to design some extensions for my gear pullers too

      Haha yes, I had to get creative with mine as well. Thankfully I had several sets I could string together. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions!
