I've had a 981 and now a 982 and absolutely love Boxsters. It's a very luxurious, reliable go-cart with 2 trunks.

Outstanding trip and video, David! I was wondering if a guy could have RTV'd that crack in the coil or even just some black tape to seal it up. Wouldn't be a perfect fix but may have bought you some time. I'd have had the dealer change them ALL out but that's just me. You were guessing it was just #6...didn't the Foxwell scanner tell you which cylinders were missing? I have a Porsche and a VW and my dealer here in Fort Collins almost always has to order parts in. Im here, I watched! Very cool stuff bro. You are an inspo. I just got a 996 and I am over the moon. I am scheming on getting clutch and flywheel, timing chains and pads, RMS, IMS, and my trans fixed up (bad howl in 5th and 6th). guards red 2001 996 c2 w/ 140k daily driven by mechanical engineer. I am so in love. I am referncing ur vids of doing the chains, so thank you for doing what you do! My dad is now about to buy a white 986 bc hes a vert guy (mine is hard top) and I am so happy for him. His will be a 1999 white boxster with the 2.5. He'll love that 30mpg, thats for sure :D. Dad is 68 and just retired. Im 25 so not enough $$$ to buy him a 911 like I dreamed, but him having a 986 and me having a 996 and us living in the same town and still being best friends is a dream come true. This is a first for both of us, having a porsche(s) that is! Keep it up!

As far as I’m concerned, the only way to pick up a new car is grabbing a one way ticket, flying halfway across the country and driving home. Kudos, my man! Ever since my wife got a 987, I’ve been pining over 986’s. I’m looking forward to what’s in store for this one!

🤔given what you know about these engines I’m surprised you didn’t go ahead and replace the coil packs and plugs when doing the fluid change and inspection. I would’ve checked that spare tire too, I’m sure it’s probably the original and unlikely to hold air. Happy you got through it and look forward to future content. 👍🏻

I noticed my manual steering 944 getting tougher to wrestle with a while ago. Turns out one of the needle bearings in my intermediate shaft was getting rusty.

lately my lc100 started to make a grinding sound from the rear differential and i'm trying to figure it out what it is but i think its the axle bearing because its really noise and you can hear it even from the inside and it doesn't get out *the sound* until i hit a pothole or some little bumps i think when one of the wheels get more load than the other *when i go left or right* it appears even when i'm at 50kmh or so

Outstanding trip. David! And now I know how to identify an Aspen tree! Do you think this would have been a good trip in your 911? A cargo bag on the roof and you still could have been a camping guy. The Lexus Land Cruiser was no doubt a good choice, but I think the 911 could be EPIC! How were the roads in Canada? I have friends in Whitefish...did you make it to Whitefish? hey brother, i wanted to get your input on some advice about tires, i got some goodyear wrangler fortitudes recently for a sick deal for some 2006 wheels i got for my 99, but i was wondering if i should have gone for something better. what do you recommend?

I am loving these videos keep em coming! 2 mods that will change your life for sure Torchbeam 7” LED headlights if you don’t mind the UFO look lol. Absolutely will be mind blowing how much better you can see at night vs the stock light. Second one for sure is Koni yellow shocks. You’d even be able to adapt the suspension based on whatever the track demands. Can’t wait for more AutoX content!

Good to see the car on track and going strong. Suspension refresh will make it feel a complete other car again. And my guess for further beefness…. accusump perhaps?

If you’re interested I have almost an entire ROW 030 suspension for a perfect OEM+ setup, all you would need is new shocks. 20mm lower in front 10mm lower in rear, sway bars etc. 🤙🏼

Great to see it working hard. I've done some autocrossing with mine and finally got new tires (200 tread wear}. They've transformed the car's handling and eliminated all my understeer.

My sky has a trailer hitch, installed by Uhaul. They custom build them. I pull a small trailer when going cross country for racing. works great! Drops my mpg to 22 though (at 80 mph).

I put BC coilovers on mine, and some fat tires. Now I autocross race it. I got 19th out of 150 cars on the last race, and most of the cars that beat me came in on trailers.....

Nice video, David! Looking forward to seeing the track weekend video too! Brake fluid confuses me. First, how does it absorb water when it is a completely sealed system? I've never understood this. I haven't changed my brake fluid in about 5 years, but every few months I do check it with a test tool for moisture. It (so far) has always tested at the "0" level for moisture (green light). VW and Porsche will tell you to change it every two years, but I'm just not seeing the rational here. There is no such requirement on my Tacoma. Can you explain this to me??? Thanks! -Tom.

I have a 996.2 manual and a Sky Redline manual. I have done suspension and chassis mods to the Sky (Venom chassis brace kit, Koni Yellow coilovers and big light wheels with sticky tires) with brakes and engine upgrades coming next. They are both great cars for the money. 12:42

When a car starts to rust nothing can stop it, however it can be dramatically slowed down. I'd recommend you buy a few cans of Krown rust protection and spray the undercarriage once or twice a year. This stuff really works!
