Just got the Sunlight a couple of days ago..At first I didn't "get" it..Then all of a sudden It hit me..This pedal is pretty deep and really shines at ambient soundscapes... Deceptively simple yet a lot of subtle variation...its a keeper on my Ambient Bass/Synth board....

OBNE is the only pedal maker that makes me genuinely excited about a new product, both because of the sound and artwork. A bit overwhelmed by what this one can do, but it's definitely on my list.

At 2:00 , there’s a pause and Dan seems utterly entranced by the beauty of these tones. Such a good overview of this pedal. I’ve been wanting a colorful, unique reverb to compliment my BigSky, and though I was initially leaning toward the Astral Destiny, this thing is really winning me over.

I feel like Dan should be the "go to" guy when it comes to gear reviews and demos. Dan, you must have had other manufacturers ask you to do their vids too? Oh yea, and the pedal is another instant classic from OBNE, huge fan of your gear, currently running a Haunt and Visitor on the board which not only sound good to me but people always ask what I'm using after they hear them.

Does anyone know if the Alt Setting remembers across modes? Like can i set the alt to work in Comb and have the pedal set to Pass? Or does it just replicate the knob placement in whatever mode you're playing in?
Hey Dan, what voltage does the expression input accept? (3V or 5V) I wanted to patch in the expression modulation coming out of my eurorack into an ALM SBG with expression outs...but it says i should check that first in order to send 3 or 5V not to damage it. Cheers in advance, Dorian

For whatever reason my Sun Light refuses to work within the effects loop but works fine going into the front of the amp. Everything was triple checked , all patch cords check fine, all my other pedals work fine as well. Don't know if its a faulty pedal or what, strange problem. Hope someone knows whats up- thanks.
Can you use this for acoustic guitar (with transducer pick up)?
Will this pedal take line level input? Or am I going to need something to take line level down to instrument level before going into one of these pedals?

Is the Alt "preset", once programmed, acting the same on all 3 modes or can I program a separate Alt switch function for each position of the mode toggle?
PS: I SO wish the Dark Star had an Alt switch or a latching Hold switch instead of momentary. :(

It's true bypass so has no trails..

Beautiful, looking for something to replace my Flint (only used for reverb), which has buffered bypass (keeps verbin even when I disengage the pedal). Is that an option with the Sunlight? It's totally crucial for me, and I love the sound/feature set here :)
Thanks Scott, and the answer is yes, the effected signal remains in the buffer when the switch is disengaged. Apologies for the comment mix up earlier

Is this based on a Hall reverb? ...Is that what the Procession uses?
The difficult thing about this pedal is it’s insanely wet like being dropped into 107 ft of ocean with no shore type transition. Like those fender amps that go from 1 to 9 in amplitude w no gradual increase. Which is sucky bc it’s pretty cool otherwise. I like it wet juicy water too so don’t mistake this for a reservation for safe sounds. DBAs new verb has wet and dry mix which seems quite great. If it had a low pass filter (sounds tin like) and more wet / dry range then it could be in the top 5-6 Verb god pedal level I figure.

This makes me think about what Moonlight could be. A reflecting reverb, one that rings out and then reverses at different rates? Modulating rates like waves. Shimmery 🤔🤔
Hey Dan and all you good people at OBNE, I just received the sunlight, amazing pedal! I’m running it last in the chain, after my preamp pedals, it seems the line level makes the input control too sensitive, is it better to change the placement? How do synth users fix this? Kind regards, Coen

@@oldbloodnoise Geotic is the the project of the guy behind Baths if you're familiar with them - though the later stuff labelled "Geotic" doesn't quite sound the same. Their early stuff like Eyes, Mend, Bless the Self etc. is filled with incredible, really beautiful, warm and bright dream-like pieces that give you the feeling of an cozy afterlife on earth. They often tend to be pretty simple loops musically, but are texturally incredible, though distinct from something like Shoegaze, almost more like a much thicker ambient version of Steve Reich or the like. I'd definitely recommend checking them out. There's some tracks that have a dreamy reverb texture that remind me of the Sunlight or your other verbs - likely achieved through a bit of post processing, so a pedal like this saves time. Listen to the opening track(Unwind) on Mend and you'll hear the vibe!

Put a subtle low decay setting on a stereo reverb pedal later in the chain..it enhances my Sunlight really well....
Killer pedal. Epic and beautiful tones. Loads of useable settings. The versatility of a pedal like this is awesome but it also makes it more complex and harder to dial quickly in a live situation. It may be a lot to ask but I just need four true presets on a pedal like this. Other than that, amazing pedal.

I can’t hear anything because the overdrive on the hoodie over the button down collar and tie are so freaking deafening - that and the refusal to maintain eye contact with the camera. I guess that’s a style thing.
just close your eyes and listen, then it's like you're listening to a podcast. There's really nothing to see because it's being explained, and you'll no longer be distracted by how judgmental you are of a stranger's physical appearance.

Very cool pedal! Still I have a small criticism to the design of the pedal overall. In my opinion you should use slightly thicker metal and thicker paint coat. Old blood noise pedals feel britle compared to walrus audio pedals for example. Besides that I think you are doing a great job guys!
Additionally I think you should consider making bigger pedals more often. At least in my opinion bigger size makes a pedal look more striking sometimes.

Every OBNE pedal I’ve ever had has had an issue with volume levels. My procession had a significant volume drop, and my reflector boosted my volume uncomfortably loud.
I havent had any problems with any of my OBNE pedals but i also waited until version 3 came out lmfao. Im pretty sure they do free repairs/updates if its something like what you are talking about. Although personally i cant remember hearing about volume issues (except maybe for specific amp models but cant remember which ones, i think deluxe reverb reissues not sure though dont quote me) but i do know they fix what people were colloquially calling "tone suck".
Either way just email them or go to their subreddit, they have pretty good customer service.
They have internal volume pots you can use to adjust the output, at least the Visitor has this
please refer to the instruction manuals for those devices; both have internal trimpots that allow for the adjustment for overall volume output, giving the user control on how loud or quiet the device signal is.
