The amount of research and attention to detail directed to showcase another company is just not normal. Amazing work as always, very entertaining and inspiring at the same time.
It's Josh's way of putting other pedal companies out of business. Recommend their stuff and watch them be crushed under the demand. One less competitor.
I just love the way you build the sense of community in the pedal business. And introducing the humans that actually make the noise machines we love builds the appreciation even more.
Old Blood Noise Endeavors is my favorite pedal company. The name and art has always envoked the eldrich, the other, and the weird. The actual pedals take that vibe and let you make it into music. My personal favorite is the Visitor.
Beautiful homage to OBNE. Stunning jams, as this band gels into a force. Josh: GREAT playing. Totally addicted to this thing. Please don't collapse into a heap of egos. This is WONDERFUL.
Old Blood is not just super unique creative sounds, but also incredibly well thought out and functional. You know how you have a pedal that's really cool but you wish it had one little tweak? OBNE thought of that already and included it. Like haunt has a clean blend, there are soooo many awesome fuzzes that don't quite work on bass. Also, sunlight is even better than you said here, it's got this great tail- killing feature that's triggered by a gate, it's like ducking but better and should really be standard on every reverb in the world but as far as i know it's unique. Just really great design thinking.
Starflyer's Talking vs Singing Voice might be the most slept on album of all time, I'm positively shocked and grateful to see anyone giving it some of the love it deserves. OBNE are also supercool, so are the jams and banter, but we all expected that.
Starflyer are a slept on band in general. Some shoegaze fans know silver and gold, and Americana was featured on a somewhat popular 4chan shoegaze chart, but that's about it. They have an amazing discography throughout, including last year's Vanity, which is their best release since TVVSV
Yeah but it was at least 2 yrs. ago when Josh covered various reverbs & first introduced me to OBNE Procession reverb pedal that I bought. So not the first time covering OBNE.
OBNE has the MAW and not many companies have VOCAL EFFECTS. I use the JHS color box v2 and other pedals for vocal duties. I would love a show on vocal pedals.
STARFLYER 59 IS LOVE! So happy to hear them featured. I have a handful of their vinyls but unfortunately not The Fashion Focus. Favorites for me for sure are Gold, Silver, and Americana. Sad Reverb Bois represent. Great episode as always Josh and crew! Joshua's cameos were fantastic. Jams were on-point as usual too. Addison's bass tones are just *chef's kiss* and I so appreciate Nick's drum beat stylings. Gotta look more into OBNE...
OBNE is one of my favorite pedal builders! I’m so glad you spent some time talking about them Josh so more people can discover their unique and wildly creative pedals both visually and sonically!
Starflyer 59 Talking Voice v. Singing Voice is an album that, no matter what's going on in my life, makes me feel like all is right with the world. Absolutely stellar album, Jason Martin is a songwriting genius, not to mention an all-around good guy.
these last few years i just have the money to watch youtube videos on pedals and wait for times i can actually buy some again, but could i just say i have the impression (more a persuasion) that you do these effects justice, Josh? classy chords man!
Every time I'm watching one of your videos, I have it in one screen and have Reverb open in the other looking for deals on the pedals you're talking about. Really a great video. Love OBNE. Thanks!
The sunlight reverb is phenomenal and if I weren’t so in love with my EQD ghost reverb I would probably replace it. I have almost purchased an OBN petal about a dozen times and eventually I will throw down that cash. For the record, they make a parallel mixer that is priced well below what it is worth in my honest opinion.
i've been following the channel for a while and regularly tune in, but this was this was first time i felt a need to comment because i love OBNE pedals so much. great episode! talk about ben and dwarfcraft devices sometime :)
OMG that cinematic intro with the space animation and the 70s synth sounds and the dramatic voice over - it took me right back to the first 5 minutes of "Wizards", Ralph Bakshi's animated epic of the forces of tech vs. the forces of magic. Awesome!!!
I've watched a few episodes. Enjoyed it, especially the insouciance with which Josh responded to hate mail. Who could hate this man? Anyway, my impressions were: "Wow this guy has a lot of the same pedals!", and "How does this guy make a living at this, and afford all the help he obviously has producing these videos?" Tonight I searched the Web for JHS Pedals, wondering: "Does this guy have a pedal company?" (I have yet to see you promote one of your own, but the amp got my attention.) FYI: I used to design Amps, effects, preamps when I first got started (just after the LM747 became cheap, and National had some low noise op-amps, and analog BBDs were just becoming affordable (the 512-statge ones!!!). JHS has some cool stuff, and I bet it works great. I'm just getting back into attempting to play (now that I have a bit of arthritis). Unfortunately I bought a Fender GTX 100 with a bunch of effects built-in. Unsurprisingly- it has a lot of white noise when the controls are over half (approx.). Wish I'd found this channel first. But, I will not need to play very loud. If I had a TH-cam channel, it would be sans-audio, because people can only take so much. THANKS, JHS.
Joshuaaaa, that cinematic thing was great. I literally never knew the Flat Light did that whammy thing. OBNE just attaches onto my heart. This might be my fave JHS episode.
Sometimes I hear a Hum influence in certain songs like “An affinity for the night” (15:10 ). I would LOVE to hear a record time on one of Hum’s albums. They really deserve some recognition, especially after the excellent comeback 22 years post ‘Downward is Heavenward’ with 2020’s ‘Inlet’. Which btw, I wouldn’t have known about had it not been for this channel and a reply to a comment I made on another Hum sounding song a few months ago.
Also sounds like latter day Failure which is hilarious because I swear to god there must be some Internet Comment Rule that Failure must be spoken of in the same breath as Hum. Whatever, I don’t care. Both bands just kick ass.

Love this company. I have a V1 Black Fountain, and it does the coolest doubler ever when you run the delay and mod near the bottom of their range. The Reflector is really cool too.
Haven’t really played guitar in years because I got a new job that is really intense, alongside having kids. Watching this makes me wanna pick it back up, buy a bunch of these and make some ambient weirdness.
JHS is what got me into OBNE. Your video on weird reverbs included OBNE's Procession, which is like a good version of the movie Dune that doesn't exist in pedal form. I couldn't get the tremolo-reverb out of my head, so I bought it, and it's still one of my favorite pedals. Very cool to hear their origin story and more of their incredible (and sometimes bizarre) pedals.
These pedals just produce next level sounds that I didn’t know I wanted or needed until I heard them. And the jams in this episode were next level as well…very inspired stuff (with the unfortunate exception of the Pluto blues incident). Loved this episode!
With Nick and Joshua's cinematic scenario, you're raising the show to another level. I loved it. Keep on bringing us laughs and love ! Thank you for that and making us discovering great pieces of gear (sorry for English, I did my best as a French guy).
OBNE Dark Star was the first pedal I ever purchased. I had intensions on it even before I had a guitar. I need Minim as well after seeing that end of line jam. Love watching your stuff. Please keep it up! Very inspirational. PS one day I will have a JHS pedal too.
Yes, in Oklahoma we have oil, earthquakes, tornados, blizzards, floods, droughts, tiger kings, bison, and sometimes they all happen at the same time. We once had an earthquake during a snow storm with tornados. A snowquakenado if you will. It's like living in a SyFy movie.
This was a thoroughly cool episode guys, I mean in a More Than Standard Issue Cool sense, these pedals all sound so awesome. Really enjoyed the Flat Light, Dweller and Minim sound crazily awesome to me in particular, but hey, they're all really great.
