  • In this video I will show you how to turn off the infamous 2004,2005,2006,2007,2008 F150 brake light. This light wont show any codes and even with brake lever up and everything good it just stays on. The inside panel under the dash will have a small short that will cause the light to stay on, but moving it and wedging it in place will have it go off and allow the brake light to still work. After 10 years of not caring that it was on, I zip tied the plug back, so it stayed off, works great, thanks....

That connector is for power adjust pedals

Resoldering is the only way to actually fix the problem. What you did by stressing the board can easily encourage other surface mounted parts to fail in addition to the one that has already failed. The connector pins can also be at fault and require resoldering. I recommend a proper fix for this most aggravating problem. My dome light was coming on also and running down the battery on a daily basis. Same problem as the brake light. I won the battle by doing it right instead of just a quick "fix". It also caused the cargo light to stay on so long that it actually melted the lens Which allowed tons of rainwater inside the cab. I replaced the cargo light unit and put in LED lamps and used clear gutter seal around the fixture. It has held up for a year with no further problems. Thanks a lot FORD.

The dead end plug you have is for foot pedal adjustment.

Having checked the parking brake several times before I found it has slack at the up, unbraked position. Not fully returning. sounds like its slapping back hard but it isnt. Pulled it up another inch by hand. fixed. Had me fooled for weeks.

Correction: it IS illegal and punishable by law (in Texas anyway)for any inspector to pass your vehicle with this brake light on.
    Found this out first hand.

I have this happening too. Another thing sometimes my interior light would come on and I have that turned off. I would hit on top of the dash ,the front left and it shuts the light off.

i noticed the 5 chimes going off towards the end of video... does that have something to do with the airbag bulb blinking on your cluster

Does anyone know the answer to this? It has been happening to my truck too. What does it mean?

You ever have a problem with your instrument panel cutting out? Mine goes out every once in awhile and tap the dash and it works again.

wagnark1234 yah it all seemed to tie into those Parts where it made the brake light go on as if it’s a short with the circuit or that the wires are just linked or bent in a way that pulls and cuts them out, fords placement of wiring isn’t the best in the dash. Everything is so tight fit and shortly ran it’s just a hassle. I would pull it apart and turn on lights and just start wiggling wires and those connections to see if you get anything to go on and off for your lights

Ok. I’ll try that. My brake light is on as well. I’ll tackle that after I get my power steering line fixed.

wagnark1234 yah it’s not too bad to fix, just fords stuff is tedious 🙄

Most always that as well as lights that turn on and off randomly is related to bad grounds, anything of this century is plagued with bad grounds, not the negative terminal but 1 or more of the 60 + grounding points of the vehicle

Another TH-cam channel said the problem is a bad solder joint on a surface-mount resistor on the IP circuit board. To actually fix that you have to take apart the whole instrument panel and re-solder the connection. Looks like a real pain.

That's not a long term fix, if its neither switch, then it's a cluster board solder joint at resistor 821, left side of board under plug, resolder both sides of resistor, reinstall
It's the repair that you have to make, careful you don't crack the bord tugging on it until you solder

    What was the plug for

    • @robertmaine2387
      @robertmaine2387  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Sam Booth plug inside dash that was hidden is a adjustable brake/throttle plug. it’s put in all the models for them for those who don’t have it as well. So if you wanted you could install adjustable pedals like other f150 models come with. I’m guessing it’s all just the same wire harness installed with the option always available

that brake light thing is annoying as hell....i would just pound on the dash to shut it off before inspection.
