The amount of love and patience that it takes to be in a tramily on trail is unmeasurable
Don't be too hard on yourself,, everyone has issues now and again...at least yours is legitimate..Who wants to walk a marathon with their feet hurting and shoes falling off...Tip for dryer feet take the insoles out before crossing streams..more time but...I so enjoy your videos .. blessings and safe trails
I'm team electric toothbrush too!! Seeing the vegetation change going to lake Tahoe reminds me of the smell of sage. So lovely.
I love my sonic tooth brush. It would be my must have 🎉🎉
Awwwww thanks for sharing even on the rough days💜💜💜
Ice needles in late June 🫣 Shoes are such an individual thing. I have had such good luck with Merrell Moabs over the years. Love the Vibram soles. Nary a blister, bruise, or sprain. Many styles to choose from. 'Course I'm not a thru-hiker. I'll take my emotions raw. 🌞
I have caught up to from beginning. I get so anxious waiting for your next day❤
An alternative trail name for you could be Burger Boss!
Thanks Birdcall for those great tips on wet shoes etc..
I used Brooks Cascadia for my AT thru-hike. Never had a single blister. I went through 3 1/2 pairs.
Excellent PSA for shoe/sock drying. Almost to town for burger & new shoes! Take care. Happy trails! 👣
Love you guys!
Other hikers are also complaining about shoes/feet issues. The sierras are hard on the feet, but you're over the hardest parts!
Ever tried Topos instead of Altras? They seem to be more durable these days.
Do you know the Heel to Toe Drop of your actual shoe-model? Cause it's not recommended to change to a model with an extreme different drop while on trail (for example from a zero Dropbox Altra to a high drop Hoka)
Yeah, some hikers are reporting issues with Altra longevity in both uppers and soles. You try Topos of you like that wife your box. I've got narrow feet and all testing Salomon Thundercross and Saucony Peregrine 14, both of which have rock plates to blunt the sharpest rocks. I might add Brooks Cascadia to the mix in August. Pain in the feet is really tough, there's no way to avoid it without entirely stopping for a bit and that's no guarantee.
Good info and great views. Thanks!
OMG The tooth brushing clip at 17:05 is HILARIOUS ! 😂
So romantic!!
Baby needs new shoes! I like Hokas! I have always thought that about Altras
Sounds like its time to try a different shoe brand, hope you find one that provides better comfort
There is a very informative vid about footcare for thruhikers on the channel of Jupiterhikes (Roadie knows him also)
I know it’s kinda……actually really nasty, but some hikers will sleep with their socks in their sleeping bags to dry them out! I’m not sure I could, but it’s an interesting idea 😂
You guys seem to be getting stronger! I'm 68 & I shoot for 10MI before noon & don't always make it...1st day after town was always rough for me....the trail gets drier as you go North....watch the deer don't take your trekking poles. You guys are doing great!!!
Love the advice on the shoes and socks, thank you!!! Keep those tips coming Birdie!
Crappie shoes 👞, SMH 😢, LETS GO!
TOPOs are the way to go if you prefer Altras. They last longer but still retain the toebox of Altra.
However, if you want to expand out to a totally different style shoe, the I highly recommend HOKA Speedgoats...great cushion, the help move your foot forward when walking, carry heavy weights very well, and adapt well to various conditions.
If so, I use the Green Super Feet insoles...have the employees cut them for you to be sure the fit is correct.
HOKA Speedgoat 5 shoes are on sale now...$125.00
Go larger size too...
Oh well,....take care.
I loved my Speedgoat 5 last year, almost fly the uphills 😊 (but go for the 5, the new 6 is quite different)
@michel.h_cf99 once I went HOKA, I have never looked back. ALL foot issues went away.
@@carmenwilliams-omotv5421I once changed to Brooks Cascadia, but get quick back to Hooka. Actually to the Mafate Speed 4, quite similar to the Speedgoat, but the vibram-sole is more durable.
Thanks for the info@@michel.h_cf99
Don't know if they'd work for you, but I got 1100 miles each on two sets of Merrill Moab Ventilators. Your mileage may vary, but ask around with other hikers to see if you can do better than those Ultras. Thanks for sharing your hike.
Try Hoka's I've had three pair of Speedgoat's and I love them. However, all the cool kids are trying Topo's.
Balance!
I think the foam collapses in the Altras and does so nonuniformly so that your foot is no longer flat in the shoe. This is a new problem. I have very wide feet, so I'm not sure what else I can switch to.
It seems there are much larger, and more river crossings than on the AT. Another good video. Happy trails.🤟🏻🥾🏔
10:40 Tina Turner would be proud! ❤
Thank you for your pragmatic advice on drying your shoes and socks.. Be. careful of critters stealing and chewing on your poles for salt.
I have a few random questions, hoping you have time to answer them. How long did it take to prepare for the trail(getting gear together and saving money)? How do you manage your money while hiking(have you experienced unexpected expenses and could that cause a problem down the road for your hike)? What date did you start hiking the trail(your videos start on day 45).
I see I missed your day 45 video where you explain when you started the PCT.
I thought the white splat on trail was bird poop. Nope a tooth paste splatter
Asics rule
good advice.
Ack, your shoes and feet. Let us know how your toe is doing~
I didn't like Altras either...I tried 3 brands my last hike, Altras, Hokas & Brooks & I liked Brooks the best...also you may want to try & time some fresh shoes for the lava flows before Big Lake Youth Camp...you guys are younger but that lava destroyed me. I had lots of smoke too at the time, you all may need mask as you get into WA
