I just dry fired 30 mins ago. Thought there was an arrow loaded, fired, all the strings flew off. My string is green, so I saw a flash of green go left, which I thought was the arrow. Spent the next 20 mins looking for it and wondering what the fuck happened, until I got back to the rest of my arrows and realised… absolutely monumental cock up and will be remembered forever, a good lesson to have learnt, at least I know I’ll never do it again.

Man that sux!! There has been a lot of us that has done that. Hopefully it's just strings and that shouldn't be to bad. Of it got your cams that's gonna suck. I hope you can get it repaired! But don't beat yourself up over it too bad.

@@WadesSwampDonkeyArchery it does indeed haha. If there were an issue with the cams would my untrained eye notice anything off ? Or would it be for a pro to check? Cheers

What I would do is u can take a small straight edge something like a small ruler and lay it across cam like on the latest side in any directions you can. Of the cam is bent you will see the ruler not touching. Also take a cotton ball and rub it back amd forth across limbs to see if you have a splinter in limbs. It'll snag cotton. Still have a pro look at it but that will at least give ya an idea

I never dry fired a bow. 24 years hunting.. few months in to target archery and I dry fired my by 2 times in a month. My cams on my Athens folded over .nothing else broke both times. The peak 38 is a tough bow. Hated to have to replace the cams but could have been worse

Yup they will fold right on the flat spot in the back where it says rtx. Itll hurt your feelings for sure

Can also happen with a broken nock, not being fully nocked, broken arrow and wrong (too light) of an arrow.

Great video, thanks. I dry fired last month and bow is in the shop. Splintered a limb so getting those replaced. Will have to ask them about the strings tho.

My 2 favorite sayings I heard constantly running pro shops...
    1) "I just opened my case and it was like this"
    2) "I swear! The new state record buck was coming, I drew back and POW! The bow blew up!"
I wanted to just tell them they're lying through their eye teeth, but I knew I was about to pay the bills that month... So.... 😂😂

My brother just dry fired my spare bow, string snapped and the limb threw a splinter. He was quick to take blame and put money on it.. i still flicked him some crap, I'm feeling bad about it now but like i told him, lesson learned.

I did this a few days ago, unintentionally, it at its minimum pundage at 28" DL, single cam. Everything is in place, cam is fine and string is intact as well😂 it was scary though. I will take it any ways but it all seems just fine. Thanks.

What about then a string snaps as your backing off the draw. Was checking the draw weight after adjusting it. I drew it with just 2 fingers don't trust a release with it dry. As I was backing out of the draw string snapped 😮 I first thought I dry fired and froze then I realized I still had the string in my fingers with my ear on fire 😂. Not sure if that's a dry fire but it damn sure was a fire on my ear. Everything looks good. But there's no bow shop within 75 miles of my house. Could you do a video on how to check everything.

Well i was doing some maintnaince on bow. bow pulled it back on my bed with it laying on the bed and well it derailed it mistake on my part. Doing this caused me pulling string at angle that caused it to derailed it. Thank god the bed absorbed the vibration preventing damage to it.

I have been shooting 55 years so yes I am an old time shooter I have 5 bows and shoot every day and yes I have had brain fart moments and I have dry fired a bow the most catastrophic I have ever seen my buddies bow blew up into many pieces and all he had left in his hand was the riser you my friend covered a dry fire excellently thanks for your video

Thank you sir! I appreciate that. I've been in Archery since the 90s. And being a 4h archery coach I have seen and had my favorite share Iof dry fires. But the worse failure I saw was I was shooting 90s point blank and the riser blew in half in at the grip. Scared the 💩 outta me.

@lastaliveko7zu well is cams are bent depending on bow they could run around $200. New strings will be $150 to $200. If limbs chanced that'll be another $200ish average numbers....
Best case scenario new strings and tune $150/200ish.
