    Thank you for having me on the channel, I thoroughly enjoyed your review (and happy you share my love for the Spyder). Can't wait to see your thoughts on the track. Keep up the great work on here and thank you for the shout out!

      Been following your channel for a while, just subbed for more of that amazing Spyder action! What kind of mods would you recommend for a GTS 4.0 to get close to your setup? They are going to stop making 718 spyder and gt4 so that might be the only way left for a few more years.

    Exhaust makes all the difference on the 718 Spyder/GT4...stock sounds so tame...PDK also makes it feel a lot quicker than manual. Great review as usual.

    I was lucky enough to ride in, and drive a buddy's manual 718 Spyder recently. Titanium OA exhaust, and of course we had the top down as it was a nice day. Honestly the only car that felt as special and amazing in my experience was a GT3. It's just so great in every way you described. And it was surprising how comfortable I felt jumping into it and driving it at the limit, immediately. It's so precise, it just inspires a lot of confidence and is very easy to drive. I wasn't sure about it before hand, and now I desperately want one.

  • @roypeterka

    Beautiful looking Spyder. I would expect braking confidence even with a stock setup at “road” speeds. Could you elaborate as to why you prefer this over a GT3 (991.1/2)? For me the real GT3 engine is so much better.

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I might have exaggerated a tad from being in the moment. I agree - the 991.1/2 engines are a notch above. But I also slightly prefer the mid engine handling of the 718 Spyder, especially with this one's suspension mods.

    • @kcw9313
      @kcw9313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Notch? Chasm. It’s a wet sump Carrera engine.

    • @roypeterka
      @roypeterka ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kcw9313 agreed. I do my own service on the Gt3 and it is piece of art, and so easy. The 4.0 in the GTS, GT4, and Spyder has a plastic oil pan! But Porsche is into making money so as long as people buy, why not make things easy and cheap to manufacture?

    • @georgepotcovaru2595
      @georgepotcovaru2595 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi ! Would be super interesting to find out more about that plastic pan . Never heard of it. How does it affect the reliability ? Am looking into a used Porsche , preffer the Gt4 /Spyder 718 and don't really wanna spend more than 120k, though am sure the Gt3 991.2 is unbelievable. Anything thoughts on that ?

    • @roypeterka
      @roypeterka 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@georgepotcovaru2595 I think the plastic oil pan is a cost cutting move, but shouldn’t make a huge difference in ownership experience. I have heard of several people stripping the pan when putting in the oil drain plug, That necessitates a new plastic oil drain pan which is expensive, but unless you strip the plug isn’t a problem. The GT4.0 engine is a totally different engine and seems to be set up for fairly fast maintenance. This makes sense given track cars have more maintenance performed and they charge enough for those cars that the small cost savings isn’t a big deal.

    718 Spyder owner here... It's not a "Boxster Spyder", it's a 718 Spyder, period. Redline is 8000, not 8200. Last but not least: it hasn't had the roof chopped off... Boxsters have always been designed roofless from scratch, they ADD a roof for the Caymans, it's not the other way round. Anyway, keep up the good work. Cheers from Italy.

    Hey Zygrene, big fan of your channel. I knew the cayman gt4 had to be good but suprised you like it more than the gt3s! I am the owner of a sw20 turbo looking to sell and buy something new and faster. I am obsessed with handling and having driven a friends mustang gt ppl2 recently I was suprised at just how good the handling is with the gt350/ppl2/mach1 suspension. I have mostly been looking at used 981 caymans but also considering a mach1, ND2 with kw clubsports and edelbrock sc, ss 1le, c8 z51 or waiting to see if there is a 2024 s2k. Do you think the 718 gt4/spyder is a significant enough upgrade to be worth saving a few years for or is a 981 gts good enough? It would mostly be for canyon carving with the occasional track day. Do any of the other options compare or is the 981 and 718 just on another level? Thanks!

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the 981 GTS is good enough for 99% of use cases, with the 1% being frequent track abuse
