Mosque of Muhammad Ali, one of the landmarks and tourist attractions of Cairo. Mohammad Ali is regarded as the father of modern Egypt. This mosque was built in memory of his son, who died in 1816. Constrution took over 20 years. The design for this mosque was derived from the Mosque of Sultan Ahmad in Istanbul.
