Your last item is a Chernikeeff log. The larger item with the twisted vanes is towed behind the ship on a twist proof rope (much longer than this one) and the other end of the rope is plugged into the meter (normally located on the stern rail), where it will display speed and distance travelled. Normally all stowed in a smart wooden box with at least one spare towed body as they have a history of being bitten off by large fish., or being bounced of the bottom in shallow water.

Thanks for that fascinating information! That must be correct. Maybe all those killer whales that have been attacking yachts more frequently have been holding a grudge for a long time because of these. The orcas probably got mad about being bonked in the head by these spinny things.
To a large sea predator, this thing was probably similar to a much bigger version of a spinning lure used for bass.

I have seen this item called a "Taffrail log" for as long as I can remember. It measures the speed and distance of your water born vessel in knots (nautical miles per hour).

My guess for the 'mystery' item is a speedometer. You tow it off the side of a boat and it spins a rope connected to the gauge. The faster you go, the faster the blades spin...and the increase is shown on the dial.

The swan salt cellars at 3:38 were used at individual place settings at fancy dinners back in the day. Very pretty pieces!

I love those little crystal and silver swans!
Yes, back in the day those fancy place settings took up a lot of real estate on the dining table. I love finding odd pieces of silverware at thrift stores. Sometimes they are real silver, but some weird design no one uses anymore. They had umpteen kinds of forks and spoons with very specific purposes, like the lemon fork.
I've had a fascination with the 1920s since I was a child, especially the elegant esthetics of that era's art, fashion, Craftsman-style homes, furniture, and frivolous (but lovely!) objects like these dainty things. I have a tiny sterling silver intricately-designed pierced basket with an itty-bitty set of silver tongs. They are for serving sugar cubes at high tea, made in England during this era.
I miss going to estate sales. I used to find the coolest things there.

My father, a WW2 vet, had a pair of those goggles. He lived to be 100 and was always proud of his service. He was not a member of the Odd Fellows and there were no chapters near my small hometown.

Peeky blinders were used for all manner of private club.......odd fellows was just one of them, these fraternal organizations were much more common 100-200 years ago than now

Steampunk cosplayers across the country are drooling over those goggles ;) We had a big Odd Fellows chapter in the town where I grew up. Not many members these days. I suppose one of these days it will be sold. I hope they don't tear it down, it's an impressive brick building.

I'm guessing but from it's make-up I think that last item might be an instrument for measuring the speed of a boat / flow speed of a stream.

As I understand it, the bones are not entirely broken down during cremation. Before putting the remains in a macerater to break them down any objects that would damage the blades must be pulled out. The ashes are mostly powdered bone, as most other soft tissue is vaporized.

Before the making of this ships "Speedometer" they would let a rope drag in the water with knots on the rope. Thus speed in "Knots."

After most of a corpse has been turned to ash, the mortician or crematory technician has to sift them to remove pieces of bone that were too large to fully burn. These fragments are run through a machine that pulverizes the bone into a powder which is then added back to the sifted ashes.

It is a tool for measuring thickness or diameter to one ten thousandth of an inch accuracy.

The goggles. I believe they are for treatment of snow blindness. If a person is blinded by long exposure to the blinding light reflected from snow (think expeditionary mountaineering or exploration in Arctic or Antarctica) they often recovered if kept away from light for several days. In places like the Arctic or Antarctica they may still have to move with the others, so the shields can be tipped up briefly if sight is needed. Probably late 19th or very early 20th century.

For God's sake, PLEASE STOP with the AI voice over. In describing the micrometer stand it says " Micro Meter " as two individual words when in fact it is one word pronounced as " micrahmeter " but spelled micrometer. You are mispronouncing & misinforming a multitude of people that don't know any better then run around saying it incorrectly because " they heard it on the internet" so it must be correct. And then probably go onto Wikipedia and start writing some BS about something. It's no wonder why Wikipedia is so messed up. Please STOP the AI voiceovers. Then you have people like the one just below that have no F'ing clue about whatever it is but then say " that must be correct". Why? Just because she / he / they THINK so? And then go on to tell some fanciful story to support their idiotic supposition. And, I'm right back to Wikipedia being all messed up........ People, if you do not know about something it's ok. You don't have to and are not required to add your two cents to appear more intellectually informed than others. Something I learned as a child was one of those great aphorisms from my grand folks " Its better to sit quietly and look intelligent than to open your mouth and prove otherwise." Between the AI voice and un-informed people, you really "F" up what could be a really great channel.

Who the hell is going through human CREAMAINS METAL DETECTING⁉ And why does this channel keep showing the incredibly strange things that were only found after a human died & was burnt to ash!? I mean the world is overly sensitive & grossly woke offended by everything however this just seems eerie , CRINGE & strangely insensitive.

    • @rrrosecarbinela
      @rrrosecarbinela 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Cremation does not burn away any implants. But it also doesn't turn everything into powdery ash. The bone fragments that are left are put in a machine that pulverizes them, but the machine would be damaged by things such as this, or hip/shoulder replacements, pacemakers, pins or other medical devices. No disrespect is involved.
