    You totally turned me on to using oils in my painting. I have 10 oil colors now and I've even started painting small canvas' (2x3" of course). You do really good work and I hope you get some more recognition in the future!

    Marco, I have been watching your videos nonstop this year and I love them. They have caused me to find a new curiosity for painting and I feel my horizons expanded infinitely. I am now hungry to be a good painter.
    After seeing your takes on several 40k models, I've always wondered what you would do with something like Tau, which tends to have a very fixed style.

    Just ran across your channel while I was wandering down the 3D Printing rabbit hole, I must say you are fantastic. The overview you gave while doing the contrasting white/black priming and looking at it like a 4 frame figure, not just a 3D model are really fantastic to learn. I've not played 40k in ages and videos like this really bring me back to the days where I enjoyed painting for a relaxing weekend.
    While I can't paint anymore due to medical issues; one of which is a Latex allergy, but I contacted Citadel and they confirmed that no latex is used in the pigments of their Acrylic paints. The second which is me having tremors in my hands is not so easy to fix, looking at the thought process you go through and implement the idea you have in mind is a bunch of fun.
    I do have a few questions though; with armies like Eldar, where things are not mechanical, and are seemingly *very* restrictive in their color schemes, what suggestions do you have for schemes/styles? With Marines, Tau, Ork, Chaos, Tyranids, and Dark Eldar, you have a much wider set of options as machines can always be grimy, Orks/Chitin can always look slick/oily, blood splatter is a nice accent for Dark Eldar and Chaos... but, Eldar are just sorta... too neat and clean.
    I did come across the Golden Demon" Large Model: Bronze - Warhammer 40,000 Open Day 2016" which introduces a style I've never seen used on Eldar, but it's *very* different (though gorgeous) from normal Eldar. What would you suggest to make Aspect warriors and such more interesting?

      😂😂😂😂😂 Thanks a million! The rotary tool is made by Proxxon, a company that makes electric tools for modelling; for me it's better than a Dremel because it can work at very slow speeds and this is good for precision and to avoid too much friction on plastic models

    Your videos are really astonishingly insightful, this one in particular was awesome to see on such a large scale. Does the warm black from the ink vs the cold black from the primer change anything at all for you?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!!! No, in this phase a little change in the black's temperature doesn't make any difference. This is also a way to add some "random" visual interest like when mixing colours you don't get the exact same tone but this contributes to make the scheme more interesting

I'm trying to base some chainrasps to upgrade my gloomhaven monsters, and am really bothered by those gaps in the slotta bases. I know nothing about chemistry - do I need that specific type of alchool (isopropyl) to brush on milluput, or would any spirit work? Any other advice specific to slot bases gaps?
    Thanks again for the great videos!

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks a million 😊
      You can use any kind of alcohol, even the pink one from the supermarket or the methylated from the hardware store. Iso is a bit quicker and more efficient but it's still an alcohol (and Milliput is soluble in water so in emergency you can use even simple tap water). For the bases I close the gaps with a piece of paper fixed with super glue, than I hide all the crimes with the textures 😅😉

I am a histoical miniatures player, and while I do have some 28mm armies (half sat waiting for painting), I mostly have a collection of 15mm and 6mm figures! It would be great to see how the techniques you show can transfer to 6mm. • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure! Molotow paints are great because they are super fluid, ready for brush and airbrush, with an EXTREME covering power and very tough and resistant because they are originally made for street art and graffiti!
      They are difficult to use for transparent effects and almost impossible to use for glazing but they are a great great tool for priming and to set the base tones 😊

    I have a suggestion for a future video. I am currently trying to paint my myrmoun banshees from the Nighthaunt army, but they are in my opinion a nightmare (pun intended) to paint in an interesting way. I really didn’t find any inspiration for them. The large surfaces that have barely any details just don’t catch the eye, maybe you could think of something that could make this model more interesting than just blending 2~3 colours across the myrmoun banshee?

    I really dig the way the sketch comes out with an airbrush - One thing... I was checking my liquitex red inks, and both of mine (pyrrole red and naphthol crimson) are both labeled as transparent... did they change them up a bit when they updated the packaging?

      To make a proper gloss effect the best solution is to use a good varnish on top because it's very difficult for a simple colour to arrive to that kind of glossiness.
      Probably Tamiya gloss varnish is the best in this case since it's used for automotive/car body effects

    Question, I have had my liquitex red ink pull back into puddles after spraying it on top of liquitex white ink that had cured for sometime (~1 week). Specifically, it sprayed on beautifully, but it slowly went from a clean uniform thin coat to random puddles in recess. Curious what you think that could be attributed to? The red ink had been diluted with Vallejo flow improver and water.

    • @TAP7a
      @TAP7a 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Flow improver breaks the surface tension, which would encourage movement into recesses without leaving much of a layer elsewhere. I imagine airbrush thinner or isopropyl will produce a different results entirely

    • @richardtabassi1947
      @richardtabassi1947 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TAP7a I think I accidentally contaminated it with a different thinner, in between models. I spray oils, enamels, and acrylics (different brushes, different times), but my label for lacquer thinner rubbed off and I think added some. It's the only way I can recreate the effect I caused.

    Great video. I always chuckle a bit, though, when folks talk about doing really "big" models like 75mm scale; I came to the painting hobby via garage kits and only started dabbling with gaming miniatures much later. Any experience with painting models cast in 1/8 or 1/6 scale? Think you'll ever do videos on garage kit figures or is that too niche of a topic?

    Hi Marco! Can I please ask you something about using inks? I have started experimenting with inks using my (new!) airbrush, I primed the models Molotov Black, then zenithal white, then blue ink from below and yellow from above.
    Even though I left the models overnight (plenty of time to dry), when I came to apply contrast paints and GW washes over the ink layer, it rubbed away down to the bare plastic, even stripping the primer with only a tiny bit of physical pressure from the brush.
    Can you advise me why this is happening and how to stop it?
    Thank you in advance Sensei!

    • @LightCarver
      @LightCarver 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming you were using acrylic inks, it sounds like the model had mold release agent that needed cleaned off before priming. Dish soap should work well.

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to agree with Justin.
      It's a strange situation because you took off not only the layer of inks but also a very tough and solid primer. Do you add solvents or flow improver in your inks?

    • @mileswoolfenden750
      @mileswoolfenden750 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you both for your replies!
      I used the inks straight out of the pot, and I was painting the wurmspat models for warhammer underworlds, which I believe should have no problems with release agents that need to be cleaned.
      I have a new theory... That I didn't properly spray out the airbrush cleaner before adding the inks? It's the only thing I can think of! More experiments required...
      Cheers :)
