MGS 1: A game with a moral of getting out and enjoying life MGS 2: Kojima tries to stress the message of MGS, breaking the illusion that Solid Snake is an extension of the player. MGS 3: Kojima gives MGS fans the game they want and instead of a moral, has them play as the villain of the Metal Gear games. Players don't get to be the hero in this game, with Volgin serving as a stand-in for what Big Boss would become. MGS 4: MGS compromises on it's morals, as does Solid Snake, to try and wrap everything up and to give one final message to longtime players with more accessible gameplay. Peacewalker: The player once again plays as the villain, with their avatar rejecting peace and the wishes of The Boss. MGR:R Raiden finally learns to accept himself for what he is, stop running from his past, and forges his own identity separate from Solid Snake. He is what he is, and will fight for what he believes in V: Player thinks they are playing as a more heroic Big Boss, but in reality is his pawn. Big Boss becomes his own antithesis, stripping away the identities of soldiers and indoctrinating them in his ideals. They don't fight for what they believe in, they fight for what he believes in. He is not the messiah Venom Snake presented him as. That's at least how I see the series without going into far greater detail.
To this day I don't think there's a game that stuck with me, even became part of my dna, as Metal Gear saga. Spy thriller, action, stealth, Mechs, pseudo historical settings, commentary on nuclear proliferation, anti-war sentiment, technological skepticism, morality in war, conspiracy plot, and the best use of boxes in history. All these elements and more are what make this saga so great and it is not one, but MY favourite games of all time. Kojima is one of the rarest case of a Author Game Designer. His love of cinema can clearly be seen in the MGS cutscenes, he is truly a master of videogame storytelling.
I wouldn't mind if he just did one on MGS2 since it would be probably an hour long video to do the whole franchise. And MGS2 is the most complicated one out of the four
Rank Up! +200G 'HIT THE LEVER' Welcome to Fuck Konami News. All the news fit to make you say #FucKonami because Konami is Konami and Konami is the worst.
Death Stranding is Silent Hills. “Dad was such a drag. Always playing the same games...I’m coming back. And I’m bring my new toys.” He knew what he was doing.
That line at the end of mgs2 about "joy and sorrow" blew my mind. The idea of Kojima possibly taking that line and reuse them as names for two important characters in Snake Eater are some of the small touches I enjoy in his work.
Thx for the advice, I actually am subscribed to him for years already. I guess his channel is one of those you naturally stumble upon when you kind of look up anything about MGS
I know a Philosophy of the franchise would be way too much to cover in this video, but I would really love it if you could just do the Philosophy of MGS2. That game is the deepest out of all 4 and in my opinion, has the deepest plot in any video game ever. Maybe even every movie. It was also a mind-fuck, but very intriguing
Kojima is the closest thing to a video game autuer we have... its impressive. not that its a 1-man production of course, Yoji Shinkawa is responsible for the thematic feel, and etc.
PlatinumGames is a dev team that has a very spotty past. They had created Bayonetta, one of the most iconic IP in gaming history. Their take on Meta Gear is ok imo but their other games are either the dumpster fires of all time or contracted cash grab at best. They are just not stable and consistent. If they can sustain the current trend tho, they might ascend to godhood.
+Victor Kruger It's like people saying any famous directors are given too much credit. Just like most famous directors, Kojima provides, most importantly, the vision of the game. Hence he would be given the credit for the game he created. Of course many would think his games are overrated, that's fair. That is subjective but if you like MGS, you should give the credit to Kojima. It is his vision, he got the biggest chunk of the credit.
Wisecrack is an awesome Chanel. I'm really surprised that it only has 2,2 million subscribers. It definitely desires more. This video as all the others are done with great quality. Love this channel. Peace out!
So Kojima's works are actually very poetic as reflections of the real world and his personal situations. It is interesting to see such philosophical depth in the stories he created.
I'm so glad someone finally explained why V was written the way it was. Kojima knew he'd be fired by Konami if he revealed his PT trailer, because he was embezzling company funds to make it. The fall-out and incomplete nature of the game was all part of his plan. The man is playing 9-d chess irl while we're playing checkers.
Artifial Intelligence won't be the end of the human race, memes will. Heck, US citizens even elected one as their president. You've heard it here first, all our bases are belongs to memes.

The way you mixed your ad with your video was spot-on 👏👏😌 screw a Segway that was a bulldozer that excellently merged the title of the video with valuable information about existential knowledge🔥
Hey I think a video about "The World Ends With You" would be a super interesting one considering the games message on life and death, plus it's being released for switch so more people will probably be getting into it for the first time
The part at 6:02 where you talk about "other countries wearing our blue jeans and listening to our pop music" sounds like a line out of the Civilization games. Was that intentional / coincidence / or is a reference deeper than that?
jon doe He really is. He's also the reason I think it's possible to get a truly great video game movie. Personally id like to see him actually direct a film.
The way Kojima works though... it'd be hard to envisage being satisfied by a 90 min-2 hour film with the amount of subject matter he likes to cover, perhaps a film as the first episode to a TV series written & directed by him and then a another film to end it would be cool. a bit like what David Lynch did with Twin Peaks.
"creat[ing] his own art on his own terms" would explicitly make him ishmael not ahab, which makes sense as depicting himself as having survived the battle... clever guy
Please do philosophy of metal gear solid! You could break it down by game or philosophical concept, but your philosophy analyses are amazing, and we need one on metal gear solid
I'm actually really impressed by this breakdown. I always thought of Kojima as an over dramatic movie fan boy with no original ideas, or ability for story telling, who insists on beating a dead horse. but I'm really impressed by his struggle to move on to new things and his battle with fans and konami itself.

Hey Wisecrack, thank you for doing this. I would love to see a philosophy of each 3d mgs game because it's all something that'd be perfect for what you do! MGS2 ending gives me chill.. it predicts accuràtely current state of the inernet
I dare you wisecrack to do the philosophy of Metal Gear series!
Zatiel.D LaBrie second that
I wouldn't mind if he just did one on MGS2 since it would be probably an hour long video to do the whole franchise. And MGS2 is the most complicated one out of the four
Oooooo now they gotta do it
Very well analyzed. Love the part about MGSV and the "Phantom Pain"
Metal Gear was once SOLID, but now it’s desperately trying to SURVIVE without Kojima
I fear we'll never see it RISING again to the same levels of success it once had.
But the success of Death Stranding could be Kojima's REVENGEANCE
syluar but Kojima will always feel the PHANTOM PAIN like it is still there
Ryne Green that’s true but now that he’s left Konami he can start from GROUND ZERO.

PLEASE do a full blown analysis of MGS , of course in a series format
TheScratcherStudios go to super bunnyhop's channel (the guy who wrote this video) he has a lot of mgs analysis
Thx for the advice, I actually am subscribed to him for years already. I guess his channel is one of those you naturally stumble upon when you kind of look up anything about MGS
YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doubt that since Kojima is a "saint".
I had huge expectations about kojima's 'Silent Hills' game. Sadly it will never exist.
Obligatory "Fuck Konami"

I'd love to see more WiseCrack material on MGS, especially the first three games. Heck, MGS2:SoL alone has enough material for half a dozen videos.
Super Bunnyhop
How about a "Philosophy of George Carlin"
fredfred1112 yeeeeeah
Everybody upvote this RIGHT NOW
I would love this too!!
They already did one for George Carlin only they called it The Philosophy of the Joker. 😉
this will be great
Wisecrack.. What took you so long?
They are pretty good tho
Marco Martins Pretty.. 'good'?!
Truly leaves you with "a phantom pain"
Damn wisecrack, another flawless ending.
7:23 Ah yes, the ladder boss, we meet again.

Hideo Kojima will return in Avengers: Infinity War
MGS is one of the greatest video game franchises ever. Right up there with the Half Life games.

we'll probably be dead before it comes out
This was such a great episode! I wish it would've gone on longer.

Ah, of fucking course Super Bunnyhop wrote the Metal Gear episode. Of fucking course.
*Hideo Kojima warned us.*
This is VERY good. I'm impressed.
More Eva theories!
Alexander Hill More Eva and Hideaki Anno in general.
You rang?
Wisecrack you just put to rest 20 + years of questions why metal gear became so convoluted. I cant explain that feeling..
This is easily one of you're best videos keep it up!
Awesome video Wisecrack, truly well done 👏👍
thank you for this video, it opened my eyes to a lot off stuff about this series i really love.
I hope this video introduces a lot of new gamers to the older mgs games. Those games were my gateway to the bigger things in life.
I love how when I click on this video, I get an add of Konami trying to appeal to nostalgia as if begging for forgiveness
A Philosophy of Junji Ito, please.
Can't wait to see Vogt-Robert's adaptation
Philosophy of David Lynch, if you please!

I feel like it was a civ reference that could also be applied to a broader theme. I also noticed that lol
Kiivas it's up to you my child.
Wisecrack, you listened. I love you.
Metal Gear looks like perfect series to analysis for Wisecrack, Jared !!!
So,memes are the collective unconscious.
Tony Nola heck even mgsvtpp end credits has ocelot saying that too
Partly, but you can also be aware of your memes.
aahelo ok
Tony Nola 🎒💭🦊⚖️🦋
Reasons to jump.
Brilliant work. Very insightful.
I've seen a lot of videos analyzing the Metal Gear franchise but I must say . . .
you're pretty good.
Sure kept us waiting, huh?
Kojima is on par with other great directors.
jon doe
He really is. He's also the reason I think it's possible to get a truly great video game movie.
Personally id like to see him actually direct a film.
I agree, he’s awesome and needs the opportunity to shine.

Thank you for this video. What took you so long?
That new intro is DOPE!
Thank you, Wisecrack crew!
#AskWisecrack #HeyWisecrack When can we expect Code Geass episode?
++++++
So well done. Thanks Wisecrack
Please do a philosophy video on Oddworld!
do more metal gear videos
Really cool video. Please, please more Metal Gear Content. Hurt me more. MORE, More
I remember when me and my dad finished MGS in 98 it took us 27 hours 20 years later I’m still playing the series.
So metal gear was ready player one before it was cool?
Wow, that's one of the worst takes I've ever read. Congrats
ready player one was never cool
Jean Carlos Oliveira Santos Yeah, it was.
Thank you for including that DBZ sound effect
Whatever happened to that Final Fantasy 7 episode?
Kitty Grant they already made it
Hey Wisecrack love your videos can you do a episode on JoJos bizzare adventure?
Edvz they need to do a philisophy on it
slick vick Yeah i know
No, Xenosaga definitely gave Metalgear a run for it's money in the cutscene length.
Man. This made me that much more excited for Death Stranding and what kind of stuff Kojima has planned for it!
I came back to this to watch it again I hope you’re doing well.
"creat[ing] his own art on his own terms" would explicitly make him ishmael not ahab, which makes sense as depicting himself as having survived the battle... clever guy
Amen! Great video Wisecrack.
I'd still kill for a big ol' "Philosophy of Metal Gear" but this is still great.
Great video! Kojima is one of the best storytellers of all time.
Please do philosophy of metal gear solid! You could break it down by game or philosophical concept, but your philosophy analyses are amazing, and we need one on metal gear solid
Great video love Kojima's work
I'm actually really impressed by this breakdown. I always thought of Kojima as an over dramatic movie fan boy with no original ideas, or ability for story telling, who insists on beating a dead horse. but I'm really impressed by his struggle to move on to new things and his battle with fans and konami itself.
somehow these videos are getting better.
Learned a lot about Metal Gear! Thanks!
Love the subtle Civ V reference
When you’ve been playing Metal Gear since 1998, and happen to read and love The Selfish Gene and other Dawkins works in 2010... and only to watch Wisecrack in 2018 and make that obvious connection. 🙋🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ smdh
Loved the little Civ 5 reference
After the end of this one, I'd love to see a Wisecrack video on auteur theory.
I believe that MGS2 plot was not only influenced by the Napster stuff, but the Millenium bug (Y2K) too, the era of digital information and its flaws.
fun fact. Liquid Snake is voiced by Cam Clarke who voiced Leonardo from the 1987 TMNT
Finally!! Hope you guys do the philosophy of memes next.
Wisecrack should do a video on 2004's movie The Butterfly Effect
*Closes the door into a room and dont come out. "Oh hay peter!" "
If there ever be a new major series, you should do philosophy of Gundam.
Writen by George "Bunnyhop Weedman". I keep imagining the narration in his voice.
I definitely did!
When Wisecrack finally tackles MGS
"What a thrill..."
Hey Wisecrack, thank you for doing this. I would love to see a philosophy of each 3d mgs game because it's all something that'd be perfect for what you do!
Here is the MGS timeline (I love this series).
MGS 3 (Probably the best one)
MGS Portable Ops (Not bad for a hand held)
MGS Peace Walker (a better handheld game)
MGS 5 (Awful)
Metal Gear (It was alright, really good for it's time)
Metal Gear 2 (If you can get past the 8 bit game, it is pretty damn good!)
Metal Gear Solid (The story is similar to MG2, but is just a classic)
MGS2 (This one is great, the story gets ridiculous tho)
MGS4 (A MGS game for MGS fans. In other words, it's great).
MG rising, reverence (A dumb title, and not related to the series)
If you haven't played these, try MGS,MGS2, and MGS 3. If you like those, try out the rest. If those don't convince you, you're gonna want to stay away from the rest.
Our thoughts are memes? This beings a new meaning to the Chilton's war on memes.
Good video, Super Bunnyhop! Even if the people who uploaded it barely want to give you credit.
So cool! I commented like a week ago on the Philosophy of Deus Ex video that you guys should do this! I'm sure this was already in the works, but very cool to see it happen. Kojima is God!
please do a philosophy of chronicle, I just rewatched it and I balled my eyes out at the end. ps. i love ur vids :)
How 'bout the Philosophy (or Psychology) of Silent Hill?
U get back too u on that, hold on
Thankful he never took it out on the player. I loved every metal gear game i played story and game play
You guys should do a cracked reunion with the original cast in some classic cafe talking about snake and his journey through nothing
Came back here for closure. Realized that, all thinsg considered, MGSv was indeed finished. Its ending was just too META for us to realize.
I expect Death Stranding to have 3 hours long cut scenes, Kojima give us the game you always wanted to make
