You should use the deck lowering shifter thingy as an e-brake like you did on your race mower, but instead of connecting it to the brake drum, connect it to the disk brake on the differential
Yeah I am going to definitely use the mower deck lever as the brake. I'll probably make it like the one on the off-road lawnmower "Jeep" and connect it up to the transaxle brakes(which is a disc brake...) but I know what you mean, its just that this is a cheap budget build. Pretty much make it as good as I can with spending as little money as possible.
Ive made these mowers into quads and atvs for years. One thing i completely recommend if you ride these on neighborhood roads, dirt roads, or basically any public space is to put a Slow Moving Vehicle triangle on it. Its saved me from getting hit before.
@@1BG0 Alright thanks man! This mower is going to stay out here at this farm and I never ride my offroad mower on the main roads hardly ever. Sometimes I do with 4-wheelers, but they move much faster than even pulley-swaped lawnmowers obviously.
I have yet to do this to my mower, but you could but on a round slide carburetor (given you jet it correctly), port and polish the head for more airflow, get a nice exhaust for it. Obviously pulley swap it. Maybe get some knobby tires, etc. I’ve seen a lot of your videos and I’m sure whatever you do you’ll get some fun out of it! Keep up the work man!
What I would do as more free mods is to hook up a parking break and also add a skid plate to protect underneath, like the off-road mower, or what I would like to see is a way to strengthen the front axle and spindles!
Yeah I do want to pulley swap the front with the mower deck drive pulley and maybe custom make a 5-6 inch pulley for the transaxle possibly, as well as put in some idler pulleys like you mentioned. Again this is a budget build so I'm going to do whatever I can for free or on the cheap.
Ehh idk, maybe Ill do something like that in a future build perhaps. The idea with this build is how good can we make it for as cheap as we possibly can kinda thing.
because thats a spicer, id be a bit more careful with it, and not lock it because all ive seen is blown transaxles when they are locked. and yes that is a 28ci engine, ive heard that they love to last forever. also, on those engines, there is a metal kind of cup on the top for holding the mesh on, you can drill 3 holes in an old deck pulley and just bolt it on for a pull start.
Yeah, I knew it wasn't a Tecumseh transaxle and it was something different. Thank you for telling me about them blowing if they are lock, I wasn't planning on locking it any though. I am going to rig up a idler pulley for the pull start maybe next video. I love these I/C Briggs motors, they do very well! I'll keep em runnin strong!
Yeah "spudstudios3342" said this was a Spicer transmission and they blow up when they are locked. I wasn't planning on locking it anyway, but now I know not to lock it now. It will be interesting to compare the open diff to the locked diff on the Jeep to see how much better it really is!
Buddy gave me a mower, identical to this one. Same engine, same color even. He stopped using it when the shifter broke (probably stuck in gear) I assumed it was the same 6 speed Tecumseh that's in my other mowers, but reading the other comments i guess it would be no surprise that the transaxle is broken somehow. Get crazy and make a 4x4?
Yeah this one is a Spicer and people say it will blow when they are locked, and I didn’t plan on locking it anyway. I do plan to do a 4WD lawnmower in the future, however this is a budget build project. I originally wanted to do a budget build on my off-road mower but over time I bought things and didn’t work out as planned so thats why Im doing it on this one, just to see how good I can make it for free or on the dirt cheap.
Any free mods or ideas for this thing that I should do? Let me know.

Yeah ill definitely make the hand brake, beef up the front end for free and maybe come up with a skid plate.
I'm gonna be following this build got a very similar build I'm gonna be doing
Alright nice!
Yes i cant wait to see how this turns out
can't wait to see the build! you could if you want to pulley swap the rear, put idlers to clear the shifter

@ yep
Add roll bars and a vertical shaft
Idk maybe one day on another build perhaps, this is just a build to see how cheap we can get this mower to function as a go-kart on a budget.
I think you should stretch it and lower it. Put the rear wheels behind the seat.

i think you should stick a inline six in it
Maybe on a future build… with a 2 speed Power-glide transmission perhaps!
I love that lt1000 style almost can't ever kill the brigs only part i don't like is the transmission
Yeah the Spicers aren’t really the best. I wish it had a Peerless.
I think you need to build a shifter like the rat rod racing mower
Yeah possibly I might change it but for now ill just keep it here.
I would be careful with that rearend i locked mine up, otherwise the tractor looks good
