I live in Australia and I'm now 73. I was born in Park Hospital in 1950. Until 1965 I lived in Stretford, just one railway station from Urmston (it would be even closer nowadays, because my house was right at the back of the railway line at Humphry Park station, which never existed back then). I walked to Urmston a lot, both to the baths and the market (I often think of that line in "The Dinner Ladies," .."There are only two roads to Urmston.). I also spent many Saturday afternoons at 'The Curzon' matinees. I already remember it well, but I had a lot of pleasure seeing my old homeland again in this video. Thanks so much..

I lived in urmston from aged 2 in1957, until 1990, didn’t move far away so I still go there quite often for a coffee and to see the odd old friend. Excellent presentation by the way , thanks

I was born in Urmston Cottage..... Thank you for the compilation.... lots of memories there and how the place has changed. I would love to have seen in all back in the early to mid 20th century.

Fantastic! I lived at 76 Bent Lanes in Davyhume as a kid, then Milwain Road, Stretford, before my mum and dad decided we were moving to Warrington :0( (which I hated). Yes, Saturday afternoons at The Curzon, our school (Wellacre) taking us by coach to the baths, the chippy round the corner from The Curzon after the baths, and the Tuesday night disco in the Princess Rooms. Moved to Edinburgh in 1985, but I still go to Bent Lanes, Urmston, etc when I visit Manchester now and again. So many memories in these pics, especially seeing Terry's store over the years. I was in that police station as a 13-14 year old too, myself and two of my friends witnessed an attempted murder/house robbery on the Urmston Meadows on the groundsman's wife, who had a house there. Scary shit! Turned out to be someone from our school too, that stabbed the poor lady.

I was a teenager when we moved to Flixton at the end of 1967. I well remember Flixton Post Office (that became Cumpstay's) and Crofts Bank Road as it was in the image from about the same time.

Dad's uncle lived in Flixton, Urmston really, and his wife had been a Flapper, and she was a bit snobby to her poor relatives from Weaste. My workmates wife was from Flixton and a bit snobby too. Thanks for showing.

Anybody by chance got a photo of the Urmston Cottage Hospital? My brother was born there in 1952. One of my earliest memories (I was 2 years old) was going there in taxi with my father, seeing my mother leaning out of the upstairs window in the left of the building, and then poking my tongue out at my 'obnoxious' younger brother when I was introduced to him in the taxi. What happened to the place?
