    I wrapped the headers that were already on the car, 1958 Lotus Seven. Prepared them by a bit of wire brushing then sprayed them with high temperature paint. Instead of using the stainless steel clips I used stainless steel safety wire. No problems with cuts afterwards. It also looks more period correct to my eyes. That is the reason I didn't have them ceramic coated. Keep up the good work.

    Another informative video. I’m sure there are those out there whose glass is always half empty and get their jollies by trying to make everybody else’s glass the same as theirs. Ignore them, carry on with what you’re doing.

    Steve;
    When I wrapped the headers on my MGB, I did wet down the wrap material and I locked the headers in a vise so I could really pull on the material to get it to conform to the piping. I have to agree with the comments below about the stainless steel straps. Even though all the wrap suppliers provide these straps, I have also cut myself on the ends when I work around the headers. I like the idea of using jubilee clips instead.

    Nice job with the warp. Warping exhaust pipes causes the pipes to rust faster. Check out videos about it.

    • @D3Sshooter
      @D3Sshooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      txs for the comments, I have not such experience and have not seen such effect. of course i do not wrap outside the engine bay and always use wrap that breaths, no or almost no water can get to it. A bike that is another story as the wrap get wet/humid when it rains and will keep some off that

    Very nice. Looking good. Also very interesting car.
    Would you recommend polyester wrap over glassfiber?
    What are your experience when it comes to the risk of the exhaust rusting due to moisture getting in under the wrap?
    Some people say the exhaust can rust very quickly when wrapped.

    • @D3Sshooter
      @D3Sshooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      titanium is the better option versus the polyester with fibre enforcement
      IMO rust is a none issue, I have not seen more or less rust. After all wrapping lets vapor pass through

    I was told that before installation of wrap, soak the wrap in water.
    So that it will expand and when its dry and it will shrink for tight fit.

    hi, next time wet the wrap and be carefull because i had a car fire due to exhaust wrap...i had 2 webers dco/sp 50 wich due to a pointy camshaft often spew a little bit of gasoline ( cam overlap does that)...that gasoline droplets ended up soaking the wrap after some hard track driving and the wrap caught fire

    • @D3Sshooter
      @D3Sshooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip! That might be because the wrap ( polyester based) was made to wet . That can take the protection of the fibres away. That is why this type of wraps is better without making it wet... Damp is ok , but wet is not recommended to me by the producers of the wrap material. Of course in your case that was due the gasoline spill..

    • @D3Sshooter
      @D3Sshooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comments, although I have been told by the makers of the wrap that its ok to make it humid but not soaking as that takes some of the protection away that is on the fibres, not sure if is true or not...

    • @D3Sshooter
      @D3Sshooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @D3Sshooter
      @D3Sshooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but that can take the coating away on the fibres... Much depends on the type, and as these had no instructions, I avoided the risk

    I would suggest a double crimp as you would with a sheet metal edge on the end of those ties, I have a large scar from one of those right in the crook of my arm, they will cut you badly.

    • @norfolkhall
      @norfolkhall 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, even plastic ties cut that way can be extremely sharp, the metal ones must be like razors. As Greg suggests you can cut to length and using long nose pliers twist it underneath its self to tension and hide the sharp edges, Please look up "How to Install Stainless Steel Locking Ties without Special Tools"
