The BIGGEST COMET in decades

  • This new comet will outshine all the brightest stars in the night sky. This comet was first found in 2023 by Atlas Robotic Early Warning System.
    This system is designed to detect NEOs - Near Earth Objects and provide us with an early warning system.
    Later we discovered that the Chinese Observatory Tsuchinshan took pictures of this comet. So they named
    Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS with a designation C/2023 A3. That means it is a non-periodic 3rd Comet found in 2023 in the first half of January.
    This comet may visit our Earth every 80,000 years based on initial observations.
    It is fast approaching our Earth despite being quite far from us. At this moment, it is 6.3 astronomical units from the Sun. An astronomical unit means the distance from Sun to Earth 150 million kilometers or 93 million miles. At this time, light takes 52 minutes and 27.0362 seconds to reach us from the Comet.
    On Sunday, October 13th, 2024, it reaches the closest point to the Earth, 0.47 Astronomical units or 44,258,636 miles from the Earth.
    The current Magnitude of this comet is 17.71 - only highly powerful telescopes can see it. It is approaching at a speed of 80.74 kilometers per second towards Earth. By the time it reaches October 2024, it will become as bright as 0.30 magnitude, which might outshine any shining star in the night sky.
    Comets are unpredictable. We had our fair share of excitements and disappointments from the recent comets. I hope this comet, by October 2024, will outshine the morning sky and give us some dazzling views.

    When Halley's Comet passed earth in 1986 it was visible most nights without a telescope, it's magnitude back then was 2, so it's fairly safe to say that a magnitude of 0.3 will make this comet very easy to see.

    Even if it’s a new comet, never been to the inner solar system, it could still be very bright. Comet Arend Roland in 1957 was a new comet and was pretty bright, as well as comet Mcnaught in 2007 which reached a -5 magnitude. So there always a chance

    I will speak now: this comet might actually get much brighter than even expected. I'm not saying this bc of data but for another reason, the solar maximum. The maximum is next year, and the solar winds will be very strong.

    • @Mr.Volcanoes22
      @Mr.Volcanoes22 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unpredictable presumably refers to the brightness, not the orbits. A few days of observation is enough for its orbit to be determined. Comets are unpredictable in the sense that they could break up and not give us a show, or on the other hand be wonders of a lifetime.

    Caption for video says "comet WILL outshine all the brightest stars in the night sky."
    Narrator says "which MIGHT outshine any shining star in the night sky."
    Which is it? I always follow this channel for Ray's wonderful factual information. This seems to be quite speculative.

    • @RaysAstrophotography
      @RaysAstrophotography  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I tried to statistically look it at Doug! We don't know yet since these are still based on predictions. We are talking 80,000 years which is also a prediction. If this comet never came close to Sun before and this is the first time, it might not get as bright as we predict. If this is infact a periodic comet, it will get much brighter. That's what we DON'T KNOW

    Ray, I've been following your channel since you started more or less. But I have to say this auto voiceover thing is a step backwards. Just my opinion & feedback. The voice saying "If you click the like & subscribe buttons I guarantee you will see the comet with the naked eye", etc, I think gives your great channel a tacky, cheap feel. I'm not being crticial, more concerened really that your really good channel could be taking a step backwards.
