  • Ema Datshi (ཨེ་མ་དར་ཚིལ་) is a type of datshi, cheese based soups eaten all over Bhutan, and also some parts of North eastern India. Ema Datshi comes from Ema which means chili pepper, and Datshi meaning cheese. This dish is so popular in Bhutan that it has earned the status of a national dish in the country. In Bhutan Ema Datshi is served with red rice that is mostly grown in the Paro valley. Besides Ema datshi, people also eat Kewa Datshi (potato datshi), Shamu Datshi (mushroom datshi).
    In Calcutta we were introduced to Ema Datshi at The Blue Poppy, Sikkim House Calcutta (they also have a two more branches in Lake Town and Sector 3) by our friend food and travel blogger, Poorna (check out her blog at www.presentedbyp.com/).

    I am a south indian who grew up in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad for most of my life before moving to America and have had absolutely no exposure to bengali food. I am absolutely fascinated by almost every recipe of yours. In the past month, I must have watched close to 50 videos on this channel. So far I've tried phulkopir data chorchori, bengali egg tadka and omelette curry and my wife & I enjoyed every bit of it. This dish looks completely different from anything I must have tasted in my life and I am eager to try it next. Thanks for all the beautiful videos you post and I hope you continue doing it.

    Can we use bell pepper or capsicum as well?

      Just capsicum is not hot enough. Please read the recipe page on our website for more ideas for substitution.

    Which cheese u have added?

    • @BongEats
      @BongEats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We have used a combination of monterey jack, comte, and a little bit of blue cheese for flavour. See 0:56 for more details.

      Search for Blue Poppy Thakali. It is near the Maidan metro.

    What cheese did you guys buy in San Francisco?

    • @BongEats
      @BongEats  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't remember exactly now, but I think it was cheddar, fontina and a little bit of blue cheese (probably stilton).

      I would say no to Blue Cheese, since that might be a bit overwhelming. I made it with a combination of blue and cheddar, and I found the blue to be too powerful. My favorite combination is equal parts of cheddar and plain processed cheese/fresh chhurpi.

      There's another dish called kewa datshi that's made with potatoes. You can have a mix of potato and chillies too. Even mushrooms are used, as are dried red chillies, dried meat, etc.

    ওহ.... এটা দারুণ দিলে তো। সত্যি বলতে প্রথম দেখলাম এটা, এককথায় আসাধারন। আর নিজস্থ একটু টাচ দিয়ে ওর মধ্যে ছোট ছোট চিকেনের টুকরো এড করে দেব, মনে হয় জমে যাবে, আর পরিবেশন করার সময় ওপরে একটা ডিমের পোচ। আহা.....
