If there’s one Bhutanese food restaurant you have to eat at when you’re in Bhutan it’s the Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant. This was probably the best Bhutanese food meal that I had in all of Bhutan. The food and the knowledge of Bhutanese culture was amazing.
Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant - They also have a museum, but the best reason to come here is for their restaurant. They aim to really preserve traditional Bhutan culture and food. Even though I had been in Bhutan for almost two weeks already, I tried some very unique Bhutanese dishes at Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant and also got a lesson on how to eat traditional Bhutanese food. This is one of the world’s greatest Bhutanese restaurants and preservations of Bhutanese culture in Thimphu.
Here are some of the main Bhutanese dishes we ate:
    Suja - herbal butter tea
    Sweet buckwheat
    Bitter buckwheat noodles
    Dried fiddlehead ferns
    Roasted barley dough
    Bamboo shoots and fermented beans
Dried beef with fermented yak cheese
Sikam paa - dried pork with chilies
    Chanterelle mushrooms
Ema datshi - chillies and cheese
    Bhutanese chicken curry
Kewa datshi - potatoes and cheese
After our huge Bhutanese food lunch we had some Indian food with Matt including some momos and paratha for dinner.
It was a great day of food in Thimphu, Bhutan!
    Disclosure:
It was an honor to be invited by MyBhutan to visit Bhutan to explore Bhutanese food and culture. Thank you to MyBhutan Productions for making my trip and this video possible!

« The whole world loves Bhutan »... like “The whole world loves Canada” -which is why so MANY *White* Americans travel with the maple leaf somewhere on their clothes... because they were told most people don’t like Americans ?
PS: I wrote “told” but sometimes, too often it is actually “taught”.
PPS: To those who think “It’s just about food, get out with your political opinions”, I just want to say: food is culture. *Food IS political* . You just took the time to think about it, or not. Same with racism. Same with equal rights (male / female). Anthony Bourdain was a master in that. Just read the reactions when someone dared criticizing American burgers (Mark had a burger in Bhutan).

well mark doesnt ever say anything negative about his food in general - in the presence of the chef or not. can't really say that 'woody' is a negative comment when people, especially mark, love to use 'earthy' to describe food. it might be a mature taste, and, at the very least, he might appreciate it.

I would like to go to Bhutan but from my research you have to go on guided tours costing $200+ dollars a day. It is a pity. Apart from that I love your videos

I love the owner shirt. That's a typical Hmong shirt black and blue.

Fiddleheads are so good... I'm here in Vermont and really happy that spring (and fiddlehead season) is just around the corner. Funny, but the scenery reminds me of Vermont, too...
