I find it easier to do gifs on final cut pro but I notice the rendering of effects and stuff like that is faster in resolve. I edit in resolve and I enjoy it. It's new and I'm getting the hang of it. I stay away from premiere because of the subcription.

Basically, yes. Everything is correct. In addition, if you buy a camera from BMD, like I did- You'll get Davinci Resolve Studio for FREE for lifetime! That's insane!
I got it with my BMCC and knew it would be popular years later. The GPU acceleration was so refreshing and RAW color grading capabilities too. Adobe has been sleeping.

I think a big part of it (besides popularity) is that people are just fatigued by seemingly every company switching to a subscription model. I loved premiere, but switched to a mix-use of Resolve & FCP because I don't want another monthly bill.

Literally the reason I’m gonna switch. My college is paying for my Adobe but my degree is coming to an end and even my lecturer is motivating us to use da Vinci
they are getting greedy .. first their CEOs want a mercedez bennz .. now all the staffs down to the janitor want a BMWs .. something like that
300$ for DR studio is cheap, and the free version has a lot of capability in it, so I'm guessing they are simply waiting for the critical mass to build up before switching over to subscription model also

Years ago I bought two legal copies of Photoshop, one for Mac and one for Windows. Then Adobe stopped offering the ability to read new RAW files from newer cameras unless we paid more, and then they transitioned to a subscription only model. That was it, I switched to FCPX. Presently I'm happy with Final Cut, and I can't justify another learning curve for new software. It is so nice to see DaVinci is cutting off predatory pricing by competitors. It sounds like they have raised the bar!
As a composite, I used them all, including Avid and Combustion.
DaVinci has all three, but I still prefer After Effects over Fusion. As of right now and DaVinci render is so fast.
Now you are part of predatory pricing of Apple for forcing you to have to only use Apple OS and hardware. ;-) *LAUGH* When Apple bought final cut pro (the company) they immediately terminated all other version for other operating systems, so transparent in what they wanted to do, their typically rip off.
When you said "You don't have to switch, this is TH-cam, always remember that, it's a distorted view on reality," I instantly subscribed.

02:30 It crashes because of some edge cases like memory leak etc. In the past, Adobe used to complete 80 percent of testing in house. So they needed many employees. Now they make customers do 80% of testing. So they save money so salary. And to incentivise all of us to do the testing, they also increased the charges manifold but now the packaging is much better, so we are pacified. Adobe Managements is just awesome in making money, cutting costs.....
the sound library is just amazing, you can store all your audio file and than any of project files you can find your audio there, no need to constantly create bins of where to store your audios😍😍😍

I also made the switch from Premier Pro to Davinci Resolve about 3 years ago. Like you, much of it had to do with the feature set and the fact that the free version was so capable. Also like you, I had those annoying moments where the program would crash for no apparent reason. I also had some difficulties switching work between machines at different locations.
I also like the way they've put all the functionality in tabs rather than in separate programs.
I started using Premiere back in the late 90s. I bought various versions from Premiere v5 to Premiere Pro 1.5 to 2.0 to CS4, CS5 and CS6. Now I bought Resolve Studio. Not easy to change after 24 years.

Me too. CS6 was the last. Once Adobe prevented me from buying it and forced me to rent it, I switched to alternatives as soon as possible. Resolve was an easy choice at the time, and is now a much better choice.
I switched from Premiere Pro after 10 years. Been using Davinci for 3 months now and I'm loving it. The switch was much easier than I thought. Don't even open premiere anymore. I'm forcing myself to do as most as possible inside Davinci, especially things FUSION that usually I would do in AE.
I use both final cut pro and Davinci resolve. Love both. I think final cut pro is not as popular because of it's lack of collaboration tools, where as BMD is cracking down on it. I love the magnetic time line n Final Cut Pro.

With the Studio version you also get a reduction in render time as it uses the GPU more to do the render as appose to the CPU or that’s the way it was back in version 16.
If you are going to buy the Studio version save your pennies and buy a bit of Black Magic gear like the Speed Editor keyboard. A Studio Licence comes with it beware tho there are versions of the speed editor where it doesn’t.

Like I say save your pennies and see if you can get Studio bundled with some Black Magic hardware you might want.
Also just for shits and giggle my last project I left the video files on my home server instead of copying them to my local pc and to be honest I didn’t notice any difference and I could start editing straight away. It worked perfectly.

The GPU render was the main reason why I decided to upgrade to the Studio version after a few months, especially useful if you have a powerful gaming GPU sitting in your PC. I got the speed editor with the license which has been really useful and great value even though I only use it for hobby projects, editing home and electric scooter videos.
GPU render has been included for 2 full years now on the free edition. If you want multiple GPU support you will need studio
As a beginner to the video editing world i just wanna say that your skills and video are AMAZING, and thank you so much for the honestly and showing how good DaVinci can be, I was starting with the iMovie editor but it was so basic, I'm glad I've found about DaVince before diving deep into learning all this!
Been on the DaVinci train for years. Once I got past the (very short) learning curve from PP, it was smooth sailing and goodbye crashes. And the color correction? Mmmm, delicious. Now, thanks to one-time payments for DaVinci and Affinity, I don't have to *Pay-Adobe-Every-Single-Month-Forever.* 👊🤑

@@ridiOn the video side, it's a no brainer. It's not entirely the same for the rest of the suite, depending on your needs as Affinity isn't 100% on par with Adobe. In my case, the differences are totally worth it. I refuse to ever RENT software again!

I purchased DaVinci Studio in 2013. It had great potential and it was slow as molasses. Its components were barely integrated. Each release was a considerable improvement on the previous one. What we have now is a great product and I m happy I stuck with it. Relight is crashing Resolve for me too. Right now I am working on 180 VR videos and Ambisonic sound. Resolve is a great software for VR as well. It accommodates any new video technology very well.
Good video. FYI - very rare for me to experience a crash on Premiere or After Effects - there's still the odd weird bug in PP but it doesn't crash. Been a while since I used Resolve but there are two things I wish they'd change/update. 1. Multicam - compared to Premiere, multicam is really inflexible in Resolve (or at least it was in the last version I used). 2. I hate the way the Resolve interface takes over my screen. I multitask all the time and I much prefer an interface that allows floating windows that I can customise to my workflow. I also love the way Adobe has Media Encoder as a separate application. The captions were a problem for me as well but it looks like that's been fixed. One other thing - can you work on more than one project at once in Resolve or is it still one at a time? I have a number of client graphics that I use in a diverse range of videos and being able to just open that project and drag an animation or a breaker into the current project is a real timesaver. I think I will bite the bullet and start using it on simpler projects to get my speed up.
I've been using Photoshop since v4 and going into DaVinci was almost to easy and so much fun to learn. Been using it for a month and already getting the hang of it :)
Same here. It's true, if you've been using a decent photo editor, the learning curve is a lot less steep. A lot of concepts are the same or similar.
The color page. That's it. Its so powerful yet so intuitive, there is no comparison. It was common to edit in FCPX or Premiere then "rountrip" to Davinci to color. But the Edit page became just as good (better in my opinion) as its competitors. So why would I take the trouble of "roundtripping". Far more simple to do everything in Davinci.
Another great reason is the Blackmagic Proxy Generator. Struggling with 8K footage on an old computer? Add your folder of 8K (or 6K 0r 4K or whatever you're struggling with) to the BPG, click start and walk away, go get a coffee. Come back and start editing & color grading seamlessly. No reconnecting files and all that trouble. Saved me from upgrading my old Macbook Pro.
Watched to the end. Best conclusion ever, and very well explained on the part with TH-cam’s algorithms and the effect it makes on people that have been using FCP for decades. In fact, I almost started to think I needed to make the switch a few months ago because of this. Personally I love the workflow and timeline in FCPX, and it works very well for me.
But if I was going to make the switch, Resolve is definitely my second choice! Thanks man!

I am an editor for public television and have been using Adobe Premiere since the release of version 4.2. That is much time. I know the ills of Premiere and I'm used to them. I try not to use functions that may cause unstable operation of the software. Over the years of work, I also got to know Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composser as well as had an episode with DaVinci, but old trees are not replanted. I'll stay with Premiere until he dies, or mine :)
I also use both Premiere Pro & DaVinci Resolve.
They Have Each Own Pro & Con.
( With the Same PC Spec, the DVR Run Smoother. )
And if you're a new editor,
I suggest you to start with
the Free Version of DaVinci Resolve.
That gonna be the Best & No-Cost Decision.
( Even the Studio Version still cost less in long term. )

One month in using Resolve. Along with the black magic. And I am happy with it. I still use Final Cut Pro sometimes. I don't have resolve down completely. But I like it a lot.
I’m looking to jump from FCP to Davinci Studio. I’m frustrated with the lack of feature updates with FCP. The iPad app is also a bad omen of Final Cut being “consumerized”.
I'm having trouble with the free version. Some of my videos audio and video do not sync up properly. Free version is also crashing at times. I have a laptop running a core i7 processor with 16 gigs of RAM and an Nvidia graphics card. So, I should have more than enough resources to run the free version. But, I think the free version doesn't take full advantage of the full processing power that I have. Am I correct?

Yes, I have tried both DaVinci and Premiere Pro. So far, I favors Premiere, because I KNOW it -- and I hate the DaVinci nodes. Premiere has crashed only once during last years -- because I was directly clumsy.
Still, Adobe milks my money -- and my daughter likes DaVinci. Means: Because we are editing together, it will be DaVinci soon.
Nodes are just the same as layers in Pr or Ps. Adobe had a bug we’re it generated addition files every time I opened a simple jpg and littered my drive with these files. Adobe Pr is horrible with any long video footage that is compressed, frequently move media head in the time line and Pr would either crash or just show black screen in edit window, playback was jerky. On the very same PC with the very same footage and Resolve has no problem working with the compression.
Adobe fell behind on one of their most important apps and have been outpaced by the industry. They need to offer some serious incentives for people have been paying for their product for years if they want to retain their market share.

I have been using the free version of DaVinci Resolve for a few months for our channel. I have loved its ease of use and good features so far… but I am curious. The tracking text, and voice isolation you mentioned. Are those only available on the studio version?
I have tried watching videos on how to do those as I had so much wind noise in some of our golf videos I had to nearly mute the original audio and just put music over it… but I haven’t found how to do isolation in free version. I did find some stuff you can do with the audio to help cut the wind noise some, but it’s definitely still present. Also was never able to figure out tracking for free version. Also a few other things not in free that I can find, smart reframe, and a bunch of the transitions. (Hopefully I’m just missing them and you can point out where they are).
Any help or advice you can offer is very much appreciated.
Btw I’m using a 2014 IMac 5k and I’m still able to edit and render decently. Every now and then it will fail the render if I use too many graphic/texts that move around.

It's so funny because I started on DaVinci Resolve, then I switched to Premiere Pro but after years of abuse from Premiere Pro being glitchy and crashing, I finally went back to DaVinci Resolve and love it. Extremely stable. I love aspects of both PP and DR and wish they could merge together to make the best video editing program.
Side note: I saw on your timeline you have an adjustment clip over all of your footage which I'm guessing is for the color grade. The way I do it that saves real estate on the timeline is to color grade your main long a-roll talking head footage first before cutting it up.
I bought the Studio version for the Magic Mask because I do motion graphics and VFX. I also enjoy the auto-captions, which are in the Studio version. I left Premiere Pro and After Effects because of Fusion.
do you think davinci is better now because im not sure yet if i should switch to davinci
@@Constans_Genta I've used premiere pro and learned video editing using Final Cut Pro. I'm certified in After Effects. I say all this to say that I can do what I need to in Davinci Resolve (editing, 2d and 3d motion graphics, etc).

i switched because a free physical editing keyboard is worth more than all the money in the world. all i do is color and cut anyway
I switched to DVR from PR about 8 months ago. What got me to switch was the cost.
Only reason I stayed with PR so long because of the student plan (19.99/month for creative cloud) . But after I finished school no more student plan (29.99/month). So in a year that's about $360. DVR at $295 is kind of a no Brainer long term.
What got me to stay was complete control and flexibility of color grading. After all it was made for colorist initially and then they built the editing ecosystem over time to what it is now.
Every person that I meet who edits I always recommend DVR. Have not looked back since the switch. Best $300 investment 🙂
Bot sure if it's been mentioned yet in the comments, but maybe the issue you're having with the relighting is down to the fact that, as of this writing, 18.5 is still in beta, so there's bound to be a few issues that need to be addressed, and it's likely that you've hit upon a specific combination of footage, hardware, and system software that it fails with. Hopefully it will be identified and, if you'll pardon the pun, resolved, by the time it's officially released.

You hooked me to this software. I’ve been using Premiere since high school and starting to hate it as an adult. I’m finally going to make the switch and teaching myself Resolve.
Extremely excited to see what this Adobe fireflies is going to be like
I only edit my gameplay videos and such for my own use and my friends. I used Adobe Premiere and it was easy to learn for someone who does not work normally with film and I had "access" to it. 😉
But about 8-9 years ago I started to make my own music and I decided to make some videos for it. Unfortunately my version of Premiere didn't support anything above 1080p. I decided to buy a full version and I hit the wall. There was none! You either subscribe (a payment model which I don't support and encourage everyone to not support it either) or have to find another software.
Everything seemed to expensive and then after a couple of years I found DaVinci Resolve 15. And it was FREE. That was it. I stayed since.
I even bought a Studio version when Resolve 16 had its full release cause I found out that it's a one time purchase and free updates for life.
I'm old and have used a lot of software over the years, starting in 1984. DaVinci Resolve is hands down the best value of any software I've ever used. It's powerful, well supported, stable and *FREE*. As a value proposition, the mathematics of "divide by zero" just blows everything else out of the water. Thank you Blackmagic Design. And Adobe - don't let that door hit you in the backside on the way out!
Ive had it for years and as a Christmas preset to myself i bought the full version and im learning to color grade with an actual color grading course
Future proof is such a good reason that not a lot of people talk about. Currently I don't have any confidence that Premiere will last another 5 years. While I do love Resolve, I'm still frustrated that I had to switch in the first place. Even if my life is 100% better because of it. I think that leads me to have a lot of resentment towards Adobe. Hopefully they get a new team to fix their program because it seems with every new update, Premiere gets worse and Adobe keeps lying about the issues.

Yeah you described my feelings exactly. I just switched to the free version of Resolve yesterday and I already love it, but I’m still pissed that I even had to switch in the first place lol. I love Premiere but it just runs like utter garbage on my system. It’s a shame, really.
I both use Pr Pro and Davinci Resolve and the latter is such a breeze to work on. The UI is responsive compared to premiere. I've had constant BSODS with premiere working on vertical videos with light Ae comps. Also, DR uses your GPU while working on H.264 footage. This is very helpful when you are on an AMD processor like me.

I've just started the switch from Premiere to Resolve, something i've wanted to do for litterally a few years now
The main reason is that Premiere is becoming worse and worse for every update, and no, staying on old versions is not an option when they sneak enable auto-updates automatically as often as they can
Premiere pro chugs, takes forever to load things, render & sometimes just forgets my NAS exists, something which becomes even worse with After effects comps, having to re-link every file atleast once a week is annoying to say the least
Resolve, so far, seems like it is much more well thought out, intuitive and significantly more stable & snappy
Oh and also, Resolve imported 400 of my 2 minute video clips in about 20 seconds or so
It takes 2+ hours with premiere, and runs a huge chance of crashing or locking up entirely while it's doing it, so i end up leaving my PC on overnight to import files...

A couple of additional reasons why I switched and will never go back to Premiere, Final Cut, Vegas, etc.
I only have the free version.
- Fusion : what a workhorse
- Fairlight : getting better every release
- Good performance & stability on Mac
- Straight learning curve, I’m not a power user, but I still remember things everytime I use it. Because everything in every tab is really very consistent and logical. I develop a muscle memory like I rarely did with other softwares.
And of course, the free version is already incredibly complete.
How does it compare to Vegas? I use Vegas, but coudn't find anyone who could compare DR against it.
I loved Vegas a lot, but then switched to Mac and it was not available on Mac. Being more a music guy, I found Vegas to be pretty close to DAWs which made the learning curve pretty smooth and easy for me. It's been many years since then and I'm afraid I'm not very knowledgeable in Vegas anymore.
I moved from Sony vegas pro to DaVinic and I agree it is much better but everything was new to me, even though I have been editing in it for a month I still do not understand the other "sections" but I am slowly learning so far every new video I experiment with the "colors" section and I am starting to understand something but it is starting to overwhelm me that every tutorial I watch everyone is moving in these sections as if they have been sitting in these sections since childhood, or I'm just too stupid to learn at a "normal" that fast like others :>

Honest. I liked it. I like many things about DR. Same with PP although PP will be too expensive of the long run. On my hardware PP runs smoother and more stable. It's why I'm still on PP for the moment and I'm used it. I'm also waiting for DR to add an auto remix feature as PP has. 😊
If you are using the free version of Davinci Resolve it uses software decoding. The Studio version allows for hardware decoding. I first started with the free version on my laptop and was disappointed on how slowly it ran. I did some research and found out that buying the Studio version would boost my performance because of hardware accelerated decoding. I was skeptical but bought the Studio version hoping for the best. The performance difference was night and day. So glad I paid the one time fee of $295 for the Studio.

Older video editors will remember when Adobe Premiere came free with computer digital capture cards. The problem with dumping Adobe is simple. Where's a product as incredible as Photoshop that's either free or can be purchased outright? But why you choose a video editor tends to be about workflow speed and stability. With Premiere I can throw just about anything at it and it adjusts.
yeah that's pretty and all but you know, paying every second of use for an outdated and unstable editor that can break anytime is no bueno

@@CubeInspector I use Affinity Photo, it's almost a clone of PS but is an easy one time price of around $100 US. Watch for half price sales around the major holidays.

I have always wanted to learn how to edit videos, but I never had a computer, so I started (and still use) Kine master and I edit in my phone. But now that I recently got a new PC and monitor, I searched up Premier pro, but the price was INSANE, and I don't even know how to use it and the more I learned about adobes business practices I just ended up not being interested in Premier Pro since I decided that I would not fall for their trap even if the editor is good. While I have seen videos on my recommendations of Davinci resolve I never clicked on them. But your video showed up and I am very happy that this was the video that introduced me to resolve. It looks very reliable and while Premier Pro may be very advanced you can still make high quality content with the free version of resolve so who knows what you can do with the Pro version, you might not even need Premier Pro after all to create good content. Thank you and I hope to learn fast since I am very limited with editing in Kine master.
I've switched to DVR because PP crashed on me on a important project. And also because of the pricing and because everyone was switching (stupid reason, I know). But now I'm back to PP. I found I can work faster and better on PP. I believe the main reason for that is the similarities between PP and the other adobe programs I use for photography (color grading controls for example). The difference is that now I do more backups 🙂
Yeah, I think the decision isn’t quite as clear if you are using the other Creative Cloud products as well. Because you’d have to learn a lot of new programs at once to replace all the components of that suite.
I think more people have fully switched from premier to resolve because of the similar track workflow, but those who use fcpx will use both because of the simplicity and speed of Final Cut and magnetic timeline.

I believe that the biggest reason why many are switching over is because all other services are turning into subscriptions based on platforms and DR is free for use and a one time payment to unlock everything.
To be fair mate, I can only agree about parts of it actually give you a powerful tools in your hands for free. Color grading is the heart of Davinci Resolve and this is why it was widely used by many content creators, at this point it's only a growing community and the Blackmagic design it self is a competitor to Adobe, but seriously, this is where we may stop. By the end of the day I still wonder when will I see the first ever video editor that will make a good tutorial on how things are done, no but just think about it. All of the tutorials that were made for Davinci Resolve were either most simplified effects you can make that states as ( THESE COOL EFFECTS YOU SHOULD USE ) or other masking stuff and adding to them a different kind of effects. What I am trying to say is that Davinci is only a color grading tool, it doesn't really impress you with the VFX part, it seriously is not good at it. And now matter how hard will you try to prove me wrong, I will always tell you that After Effects is just much better at VFX. All these videos with insane visuals masked out skies, edited faces, animated faces, insanely looking good visuals they are mostly done on After effects, not only those incredible looking visuals, all of those gaming video edits that are actively done, none of those popular editors use Davinci Resolve because they are better known with AE and it's beginner routine for most of the people will always be easier due to the fact that people that make tutorials for After Effects they actually show something good instead of hundred nodes to be done to obtain a choppy looking images from other people. No of course there is people that make good tutorials, on stuff that you should know, and further more it can help you in future since that can help you evolve in that program in future. Don't get me wrong, but all those popular youtubers that make tutorials with Davinci Resolve are simply color grading professionals, and all the VFX tutorials they make, they simply look like you should put more effort in it and it could look a lot better uk what I mean.. And it doesn't make any sense if you say that Davinci can do most of what AE can, then simply show me how. My friend, he is VFX artis and CC specialist, he used AE for most of the time. He said that his colleagues used Davinci only for CC, nothing else.
Editing in 4K in after effects really shows off adobe's ability to hustle. It cleans up footage fast but you have to have 32g of ram available. I upgraded to 128 so my new computer just rocks through after affects.
Great one again! But not quite sure that it's only because it gets a lot of hype that people are switching. I've been using Premier Pro and After Effects, and after only starting to grasp a bit of Resolve, it was clear that it was better, well, more complete, a one stop shop that I can push further some aspects that I couldn't in others, and why I'm switching to Resolve and probably why I'll do a video over why I switch too 😅. I know that I'll have a lot to learn over, specially with animation, but it worts it. If after watching videos about it that makes me want to give it a try I find out that it doesn't worth the switch, end of story, so no video about it from me, neither from a lot of other ones like me, so less videos on the subject and less trends going on, imo. If everybody is switching from a software that they put so many hours to learn and that they know on the tips of their fingers, it's not only because of trends, it's because it's gooooood! 😊😅
I'm using Vegas 17 2-3 years now but my friends said that I should start playing with DaVinci and you kinda helped me with my decision.

I said this and have always said this - youtube is a mirage. If your decisions are based on people's opinion via youtube, you're in for a real treat.. I knew this whole DaVinci thing had been a Fad ( granted I have been using DR for some time and not because of any of all the reasons you highlighted but because of DaVinci's foundation - built for LINUX .. as a linux user, PR/FC don't care about us but DaVinci was first built for only Linux and expanded their reach to Mac then windows.. ) Even if it's no longer the fad, I have no where else to go other than DaVinci or Kdeinlive or blender vfx..

really liked the way u explained things in this viy .. honest. i hv been a premier user fr years now , and apart frm few fustrations .. its fine. In between tried FCPX, but went back to premier. But i hv DaVinci installed in my Mac as i want to learn the colour grading feature there. I hv worked in film production houses and they use DaVinci fr colour grading, abd i love the Audio feature they offer too.. much better then premiere or fcpx. So make the use of the best of all. Maybe i will edit in premiere and colour grade or di my audio work in DaVinci .. use the tools 🛠️.
I have been using davinci the last 10 years, and premiere from 1995.
Premiere is hard to beat, everyone is using it with other products, if subscription is too expensive for you, you are in wrong business.
Davinci is King of color grading. But editing is still premiere/Avid thing and motion graphic is After effects.
Love resolve but there alot of small things never fixed the last many years. They just keep adding functions. Making it monster heavy.
Truth! I work post in LA and 99% of jobs I encounter are either Avid Media Composer and Premiere Pro for offline editing. I'll admit color is amazing in Resolve but that was it's original focus.

I've been using premiere Pro since version 1 - so very long and was also been instructor to other editors in my area.
I have been sick of Adobe soon after 2013 CC because of numerous bugs that prevent current version to be used. They fixed the version when next was released. Since 2013 to 2019 they added GUI changes (round buttons, color change from amber to blue), reducing graphic interface to less intuitive, removing multiple layers of visual cues from several to one (a 3D button just bacome a box with title, which change color from light grey to light blue on dark grey, and color accents of buttons are ON only AFTER they are angaged not before to easy locating) and changing shortcuts and how function works (they flipped when ALT or nor ALT is used, or changed defaults). Generally make Premiere more cumbersome and demanding more clicks than before (pay attention what is highlighted, always click on empty space, to get proper tool function, adding dissolves to both sides of clip and than need to delete one side, sometimes adding dissolve/transition to some remote clip and you do not see it until video exported, etc). On top of this they broke compatibility with old plugins and filters, removed functions and features - ADDING NONE - at leas no relevant, not fixing any problems from VERSION ONE (like sticky SLIDERS and controls!! or the problem of keyframes going out from clip and you need to expand it to get keyfram) and than adding so many bugs ... and on top of it - ENDLESS paying for subscription and finally removing old version that WORKED (only allow 2 version now) and also perfomance was worse from version to version ...
... 5 years after I ditched Adobe I had to edit a 3 hour long feature event on premiere 2023 (latest at the July of 2023). I already chunked the event into small parts, knowing Premiere works best if timeline is short. High end Ryzen computer (all NVME SSD's, top line GPU, almost best CPU possible, everything fresh and new and updated). Well I never WORSE experience with Premiere. If I used to be able to playback timeline and edit in the fly (moving clips, adding keyframes, changing audio levels, make fades with curves, adding transition effects) ALL in real time while being played back (on a MUCH older and slower hardware), this time Premiere had already problem to just play ... timeline head line sticky, jerky, not moving, not refreshing, not smooth ... I instantly seek solution on internet (make reset workspace often, switch to project windows and make sure there is "preview area" turned ON). COME ON Adobe!!! Why I need so many workarounds to make it barely usable? Especially playback was choppy when in "effect controls" window, so I had to remember to switch to "project" every time I had to playback and review the effect. Nuts. And than using warp stabiliser which is exactly the same since 1st version still bulk the project and it saves for ages. The reason I edited small chunks of video at a time in SEPARATE projects and than glued all together.
In 2023 on high end hardware Premiere performed WORSE than Premiere CS6 used to perform on Pentium DualCore and plain HDD. Fun is I edited 10 years old event that was shot with HDV footage (1440x1080) converted to PRORES and was exactly the same kind of footage I used to edit all the time back in 2012 on CS6 ... I really regret I opt for CC ever. Premiere is JOKE and PUNISHMENT to operate. It was fun and revolutionary software when Version 1 was released .. .today it is GROSE. They kicked out TITLER in 2023 version ... but scubbing on 5GBps NVME is really fun and exporting is lightning years faster ... only editing is useless. Fiddly, stupid, complicated ... I hate PREMIERE and I was in love with it.
PS: Premiere 2023 crashed A LOT LESS than my last everyday version 2017 (used up to 2019). It crashed only 3 times in a week! And this is ONLY improvement over old versions. Everything else as described.
(Editor since 1994, started to use CoolEdit as my 1st NLE, worked later on Avid, Incite, Fast, Liquid, and what not professonal systems).
The real reason I'm switching to is because I can ask someone else's help on the project without requiring them to make an annual agreement on Adobe.
The only problem is that Davinci has very strict project version requirements. It's almost mandatory for all to require and compound to a certain version for the project files to be able to be moved from one computer to next.
It's an issue, for example in libraries, when there's no possibility to upgrade software. So the only option is to run something like 18.0 and upgrade as seldom as possible and fetch old versions from blackmagic.
People switch to Resolve, because people like to suffer. Lol. Don't get me wrong, I use resolve and it's great, lots of features... but it is not a smooth editing experience. You need a tutorial to learn to do every single thing. It's the world we live in.
I haven’t had any issues editing on DR. It’s like butter.
The node system is only good for compositing. It is terrible for any sort of motion graphics and handling animations. Though I’m happy it’s more stable than adobe
I couldn't disagree more. Tried Adobe Rush and Premiere Pro, and used them a little but they are not intuitive nor simple. DR is simple and I learned over 2 days and have been editing and publishing videos MUCH faster.

Apparently it's a codec thing. Lumix 10-bit is not problem apparently, but most Sony 10-bit doesn't work...

I've been using the free version since the first lockdown. A great time to sit and learn it. I'm still on the free version but I will buy the studio version next year along with a better spec pc

I just started a big project in Final Cut Pro. I'm sure resolve would be fantastic but I just didn't have the time to figure it all out when I needed zero time for final cut. And a lot of my work is really just putting clips together - pretty much cuts only. Yes there's color grading and maybe a few effects, but it's mainly handling about 5000 files and distilling it down into an Engaging program. Almost any of the editors can do that…

I am a light user and made the switch because I didn't want a subscription based product. I tried Davinci Resolve (free version) for a month and paid for the studio version in order to support the company, no other reason.. & I have it for life.

I switched to DaVinci 5 days ago. I postponed for years becasue I was affraid I wouldn't understand it as I was used to Premiere. Now I am sad I used Premiere so long. DaVinci is soooo much better on so many levels. So intuitive, u can learn it fast, visually easy. Can't wait I'll put a few months of learning behind it so I will really start understanding it. I was primarly photo editor and photographer and I did not like video because it was so complicated with grading and finishing the look I wanted in clips. Da Vinci is hands down INCREDIBLE in color grading. So easy to make it look good if you have an idea.

I'd love to incorporate Resolve into more of my projects. Currently I use it for color grading when it is required, but don't hardly touch it otherwise. I like the software, but I'm sort of stuck where I'm at for now.
The big thing holding me back is lack of Fusion support from the content creation companies I use for things like motion graphics. I don't have the time or interest to create them myself, but I love to incorporate After Effects animations into my videos, and the integration with Premiere Pro, especially for MOGRTs, is a real plus and the biggest reason I still do most of my work in Premiere. Once more of those are available for Fusion I'll probably do more in Resolve. And a full audio editor would be nice.
This is my problem too. I want to go to Davinci, but I got like A LOT OF PLUGINS and WORK FLOW TRICKS that will vanish in Davinci Resolve.
I don't mindlearning it.
Especially my best tricks and effects are still not comptiable with davinci. And having to learn to recreate them in Davinci would take too much time.
THAT SAID! Some of these plugins have been breaking down in premiere lately... they either break rendering, break effects, do something differently each boot up and such.
