I've watched my grandma make that many times on a wood stove. I couldn't wait for her to get it ready to eat. She would give me the 22 rifle and tell me to go get us a chicken, now at six years old I had a gun and would go hunting a chicken. She could fix the best fried chicken on that old wood stove. It had a warmer over the top and she kelp it full of good things to eat. I miss that little old woman to this day so much.
I don't recall I ever had red eye gravy, and I've been in Texas most of my life. As a kid, I remember Jethro on the "Beverly Hillbillies" having a craving for biscuits and red eye gravy.
We always cooked the ham in about a tablespoons of lard then after the ham was done put about one fourth cup of sugar then your coffee bring to boil and serve over grits and ham and eggs delicious
I can remember my granny would go to the smoke house with a butcher knife come back with a hunk of ham fry it up make red eye gravy biscuits half dozen country eggs man that was eating I sure miss her.
My mother in Wisconsin made a red gravy that we put over potatoes and biscuits. I don't remember if we had ham with it, but it likely had coffee in it. It was colored RED, and had kind of a rich greasy taste. I have never found a recipe like it, although my late husband remembered it from his childhood in Southern Illinois, so I didn't imagine it! I wonder if its a Wisconsin-Illinois thing?
Never heard that before,I’m like Susie I don’t understand any of that.lol It’s interesting.I thank God every morning for giving me another day.No flour ? Show us how you eat it.

Use some scissors and just cut slits in that fat on the ham and it’ll lay down for ya! ❤️❤️❤️

It's difficult to get use to gravy being made without first making a rieaux.
so straight to the skillet without drawing the salt?
Thank you for the recipe and the Scripture. Reminds me of watching my Grandma cook while she sang old hymns!

Well, that wouldn't be real red eye gravy.

Ms. Suzy you must now be from the south if you don't know what red-eye-gravy is......just like my momma made.
