My mom was super tidy growing up. I rebelled and was a slob. When I moved out I realized how much she did for me (every kids story right? Haha thanks Mom!!) and I knew I’d need to learn to keep house, the right way. Teaching myself to clean was a long process for me. It did not come naturally. I would leave scum behind in showers and I couldn’t figure out why my kitchen window was so dirty even after wiping and wiping. I spent some time researching the idea of housekeeping in the 1950s. Yes things were different then but I feel like my grandparents generation certainly knew how to keep things clean! From there I kept researching online and finding TH-cam videos like these. After that I just learned by doing! Nowadays my house is spotless and my mom is shocked ;)
There can be a lot of emotional baggage blocking the surprising joy of keeping your environment clean and appealing. That baggage is invariably handed down through the generations by harried and struggling parents. Thank God for YT - people who know what they're doing and aren't yelling and swearing while they're doing it.

I’m a professional window cleaner. Dawn dish soap, window mop, and squeegee. No windex, vinegar, newspaper nonsense. Hire a professional window cleaner to be honest. It’s a bit of an art

I was house sitting for my friend, and I decided to practice cleaning on her house. I got a little discouraged because I didn’t feel like I was making a difference, but when she got home she noticed and thanked me for leaving the house cleaner than she left it. 😃

My wife and I have a small business doing house cleaning, handy man work and overall maintenance for people at their homes or places of work. We come from a house cleaning business background and have more experience than most people. 30 years worth.
Word of advice reguarding money in this line of work. Don't always go for the extremely rich people. The more rich a client is the more weary you should be. (Not all rich people are bad, there's a few golden ones out there, I'm just generally speaking).
The only clients that roll their eyes/debate/make a fuss over the price are the extremely rich ones.
The smaller fish clients value our work, pay what we charge them with no complaints and call us back again if by chance we don't already have them down in our schedule before leaving.
The track record doesn't lie, extremely rich people are greedy and just about always have a hard time valuing what you do for them.
Work hard, work smart, know your worth and keep clean folks! 👍

yes, I agree with you. also people that have tried other cleaning servicdes and had bad experiences are very bad to work with. also very nasty houses, customers have never clean their houses, they wont appreciate your work. and if you take longer than 2 hours cleaning there, they wouldnt understand why in the wold you took that long, and always complaining about the price.... ugh, I get those all the time.
@@kirstieb8025 Rich people are often cheap. I was a hair stylist in an expensive and exclusive neighborhood. Most clients didn't tip.
I had an adopted mom that taught me and had me cleaning from the age of 4 and she was an awesome cleaner like you. I hated it as growing up but I thank the Lord for it now...it has truly came in handy in many different ways. Your way is more advanced and up to date. Thanks Angela for everything!!!

I started cleaning since I was 5. I love my parents so much and feel like I can help them as much too. Because my family and us farm. So I decided to clean the house so my mom dont have to clean the house. And I cook so when they come they can just eat and go shower and rest for bed. And in the weekends I would go help my parents with farm. Then on Monday and all those 5 days I clean. And I would go water my plants. I feel proud of myself. Now I'm 11 and I am still cleaning my house. Although my hands are dying from those clean. But still going for my helpful parents.
It sounds to me like you are a real blessing to your parents, because you appreciate all that they do for you and you want to step up and do what you can to make their life easier. Keep it up, and I believe someday you will be rewarded.

My best learning tip was vinegar and baking soda clean also. I grew up with a mom that use those. The house would sparkle. I now use them myself cuz they work great. They're cheaper than buying the other chemicals when you're on a budget.

I use this same combo to unclog the kitchen sink and remove stains from carpet. Also, I just read that baking soda and vinegar is used by pros to clean stained sheet/baking pans. Way to go Ashley.
@@Jennifer-fo2vf Use baking soda for scrubbing off stuff - like grime, chunks of stuff etc. Vinegar is good for getting things to shine. However, both together neutralize each other so not a good combo. However, using baking soda and basic Dawn dishwashing soap will give you a great clean for floors, bathrooms, counters, switch and plug plates - everything in your house. This also won't leave a film like most cleaners. I hope this helps. Btw, vinegar for unclogging/cleaning sink taps, shower heads etc. getting stainless steel appliances to SHINE. To clean a sink tap or shower head, put vinegar in a plastic bag and then put over the faucet head and secure with a rubber band - let soak for 20 min or more. I hope this helps, you'll be surprised with the results. Happy Cleaning
I love that you understand that your way may not be the best way for someone else with bad knees. I am retired and looked into cleaning houses, something more active than sitting at a desk all day like I did for years. When I found a company hiring I was excited until I read their requirements. They said you have to able to be on your knees most of the day scrubbing floors because they only do them by hand. There was no way I could do that with my knees, but I am able to work in the garden and heat all day so I know I could do the job just not their way.
Everyone cleans differently and you have to chose the way that works best for you. good luck on your job search. Hope you find the perfect one for you.

I love your videos. My mom has multiple sclerosis, but due to having a strict upbringing she always wanted to do the cleaning instead of us to save us from it... so the house was always messy (adding my dads hoarding tendencies and 3 kids didn't help) and i had no one to learn from. I struggle with mental illness and trauma which makes keeping my house clean feel impossible. Your kind yet direct approach to videos is so helpful and it really means a lot. I'm a total beginner in cleaning a house(my own house) let alone professionally. I also have a thing against contamination.
I have no idea what all cleaning supplies I need to use, what kind of cleaning cloths, scrubs, paper, wipes, brushes, sponges (how many of the above should be disposable and how many not), and other tools and how many to use them. I don't what the right chemicals, the right approach needed for cleaning. I don't even know where to start let alone planning a routine for daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal and yearly cleaning. I end up wasting time, energy and resources. I also am worried about cross-contamination during cleaning and also of the cloths and other tools used for cleaning.
Even if I have started cleaning, it is very slow and I realise I haven't even achieved half of what I'm supposed to for the day and it's already evening when I had started by mid-morning.
I really need a complete, ultimate, step-by-step guide series for total beginners like me with every detail, trips and tricks, etc.

I have a “back saving” tip that I found by accident. I had what I thought was uncleanable tile grout. I wet a Magic Eraser and applied Soft Scrub the grout. The filth practically wiped up! The grout was placed in 1993 and was practically black. Now it is the original tan color. Try it!

Grew up with a control freak (not quite free of their grasp yet) who would never let me do a single chore because I'd 'mess it up'... I legitimately have to SNEAK around emptying the dishwasher or brushing because if they hear, they BARGE in. Going to Uni in September and I'm way too old (I'm a mature student :( ) not to know how to clean things properly, really grateful that there are videos out there like this!
Same here except in my case they'd complain I didn't do chores after not letting me do them... It makes adjusting to uni harder but better late than never :)

Thanks for the feedback! I've heard that some companies have a zero tolerance for the 1st 60 days. I've always given more grace, but I obviously have a lot to learn since I am still in the field cleaning and not just running my business due to not being able to hire and keep enough employees to keep up. Great advice! Clean a friends house for free a couple of times. One of my friends had a cleaning business and so me and my wife worked with her for awhile which was a real advantage. She taught us how to price, clean etc.. I can't thank her enough. As far as vacuum cleaners its your biggest expense buy a cheap one first and use your customers and you will find a brand you prefer. For ex, I learned that I hate dyson's and love shark's that kinda stuff is personal to each individual. You do not want to spend 4-500 bucks on a vacuum that you hate. That would be a real bummer!

I ask customer if they have vacuum I can use or would they rather I bring mine, I have 9 clients and none of them have a problem with me using their vacuum.

In Germany we have two types of jobs for people who cleaning houses. We believe in learning for two and a half year to do a very professional job. They learn a lot chemistry and about using cleaning machines and on and on.
First the "Gebäudereiniger". It's a person who does nothing else than cleaning houses. If you want a specialist in cleaning floors, carpets, windows, furnitures... you will choose a Gebäudereiniger.
The next is a "Hauswirtschafter". This is a kind of a person who takes care of people and their living spaces. They can clean, cook, doing the laundry and so on in a professional way. Like a professional housewife.
Are there similar jobs in the USA?
In the USA we have lots of independent cleaning companies who offer different types of packages. Some do the "personal housewife" chores like dishes, laundry, cooking etc. But most just come in once every other week as an outside service to clean for a few hours.

Thank you. I appreciate your candidness. I keep watching videos where the person tells their way of doing the cleaning as if it is the only way. I run a cleaning service. I train my employees to clean my way, but sometimes they come in knowing and preferring to clean the way they already clean their home. So many videos say that as an employer we need to set up systems that everybody follows. While I agree with that wholeheartedly, I also feel the work will eventually get done better and faster if they have tools more accustomed to their style and habits they've already formed. I want to grow my business, so I can get out of the field and just run it. Do you think I should make everyone clean a certain way or is it better to not be a perfectionist in this area?
All excellent advice, I used to clean homes many years ago, I used Murphy oil soap for a lot, but as years go by, things change & it’s not always still the best for everything. Thanks for the tips!

Hi Angela!! What is the best most efficient way of cleaning crusty rusty BBQ grills? Mine have rust and are embedded with gump. Thank you! I heard ammonia is good.
When it comes to cleaning a crusty and rusty BBQ grill, there are several efficient methods you can use. One option is to create a paste using equal parts baking soda and water, which can be applied to the rusted areas of the grill, left for a few hours, and then scrubbed away. Another method is to soak the grill grates in a solution of equal parts vinegar and water. While ammonia can also be effective, it's important to take safety precautions when using it. Regular maintenance of your grill can help prevent rust and grime buildup.
The hope chest smells better, following your cleaning advice...ty. So far no moth ball smell, now I can place blankets in there.

When it comes to what solution to use sometimes the surface your cleaning comes in to play. For instance, Some of the solutions that you use to clean a porcelain tub or tile wall will damage a fiberglass insert. One piece of advice that as former professional I would offer is to always clean from top to bottom.
+patrick Wall Yes you’re correct the solution or detergents you use is dependent 100% of the time on the surface your cleaning, and the soil you are removing. Thank you for bringing this up this is super important information. 👍👍👍
Porcelain vs fiberglass. What do you use for each? I use CLR Calcium Rust Lime for porcelain and comet for everything else. Unless its a tough stain, then I use baking soda and vinegar to soak said offender. Thanks for letting us know. Jennifer
Angela, I used my cats brush on my stairs it picked up the cat fur. Then I vacuumed. Just wanted to pass on something that helped me out. Also what is a good steam cleaner to use as I want to buy one.
Thanks for sharing this tip. Cat brushes are awesome for picking up hair, especially the silicone ones. As for a steamer - are you looking for a hand held steamer for showers? Or a floor steamer for the bathroom tile on the floors?

Hi Angela! Great advice...... and speaking of mopping the floors I prefer to do it on my hands and knees but like you said it’s not something that’s for every house cleaner depending on the individual. What I like to do is when I go do an estimate for cleaning, I like to let the owners know that if they have their own mop that I will be using theirs or on my hands and knees. There’s just something about taking a mop from house to house that just seems very unsanitary to me. I personally would not like a mop that was used in someone else’s home or many other homes used in my home on my floors. What are your thoughts?

1021freestyle I really like using the mops where you can change out the heads and launder the dirty ones at the end of each day. Having a laundry basket or bag for dirty mop heads rags, etc in your car is a great way to keep your dirty stuff from clean and from cross contaminating to other houses. But each house cleaner will find their own way of doing things 😊

Lol of COURSE you're the better driver! Lol. I'm just getting started so lots of trial & error. 1 thing I noticed is what works great in 1 clients home doesn't work so well in another. I live in Northern NJ so lots of hard water & I've been cleaning in some older homes w/ no water softener. Omg what HELL! This is a LOT of work & requires different chemicals & techniques than in newer homes or ones w/ water softeners. Also some some people maintain their home & some don't. So again big difference in time, effort, solutions, & techniques.

I started with researching what cleaners and disinfectants were actually effective, and went from there. There are so many popular cleaners that aren't very effective, but people are brand loyal. Every brand you've shared so far that I've watched have passed that initial test. 😁

Angela, I have started cleaning on my own recently, and have cleaned through a cleaning company and worked with a friend for housekeeping. I am doing this on my own and wanted to know, it is possible to clean a 2000 sq. foot home alone in one day. It will need a deep clean the first time. Thanks, Wendy
Trial and error has been the way I've learned. Mops... oh if I could find a reliable mop...
Trial and error has been the learning path for many. And mops, oh boy...you are not alone when it comes to that.
@@AskAngelaBrown I use a steam mop from Costco. It cleans and sanitizes without chemicals. I bought it when the kids were little as I didn't want chems on floors they would be bare feet on. Also, the purple Swiffer has known to damage pets kidneys, so just hot water for me.
The zero tolerance I was referring to was for absences during the 1st 60 days, no matter the reason.

I’m a very inefficient cleaner and looking this up after I spent most of today cleaning and it only looks a little bit better. I’m ready to throw everything out!
Cleaning can sometimes feel overwhelming, and it's normal to experience frustration when it doesn't yield the desired results. Before considering throwing things out, take a breather, and perhaps try a different cleaning approach or break the task into smaller, manageable steps

@@AskAngelaBrown Oh I'm the host. The bath mats we are plastic so we have to hand wash them. But once we do that should we put them inside the tub or drape them over the tub?

1. How to start spray solution?
2. Scrub with sponge or with cloth?
3. Do i need to dry or will it dry on its own?
4. How to pick up hairs from floor after you mopped ?
We dont have a tining housekeeping i was just partnered up with 5 different girls each day and they all clean very different and i just dont wanna go on my knees and scrub floors or floor showers there haves to be a tool that will help me clean shower floor with and wall tiles with bending or strainin so hard
Do high schools still teach how to clean house in home economics class? Do they still have home ec class? Has it gone the way of cursive penmanship? I have seen people do the strangest, most ineffectual things when cleaning. For instance, my husband thought you could handwash dishes in cold water. His reasoning was that the soap caused a chemical reaction and would clean just as well regardless of temperature. As you can imagine the dishes were greasy and slimy when he was done. And this man has an IQ of 145 and is an engineer! Oh, but if you do have raw egg on a dish, I did find out that this particular item should be rinsed off first with cold water, if you use hot water it can actually cook the egg onto the surface.

My grandparents taught me how to clean. Not necessarily how to remove stains but they taught me that you don't just clean what you can see. They told me real cleaning is getting under tables, behind couches, behind refrigerators. I think they were always afraid of mice... LOL
I have seven aunts and uncles and they said that my grandparents taught them how to clean also. Their houses are immaculate. By the way my grandparents weren't house cleaners. My grandfather was a minister and my grandmother was a teacher but their parents taught them how it clean and now I'm teaching my child. I'm am proud of my attention to detail and hope that I can pass it on to my employees.

You got me at moldy - because if they are moldy it's going to be tough, but vacuuming them with a brush attachment tool with soft bristles may be your best bet to get off the dust. So you don't break them, consider placing a bowl about the same size as the basket inside the basket (so the basket is wrapped around the outside of the bowl - the bowl is like a basket liner.) This will give you some stability when vacuuming the basket so it doesn't bend or break. Does that make sense?

Hopefully the soap you are using does the trick. There is no real way that I know of to guarantee your clothes are sanitized but at lease they will be clean.
How to shine granite counter tops.
Granite countertops have a glaze on them that can be shined with a damp microfiber cloth. If you are going to really clean them, do so with a stone cleaner designed for porous stone. I use Weiman Granite and Stone Cleaner amzn.to/2wpSo4g and then I maintain them with a damp cloth.

Hospitals use biological odor eliminator. I actually removes the odor rather than masking it with perfume. Check out the one by MedChoice. Also, PooPourri is all-natural and gets rid of feces odor, so I’m sure it would effective. It does have a strong scent, but it’s not irritating because it contains no synthetic chemicals. I prefer the original, which is lemon.
