Hi everyone, who struggles with hip rotation in their downswing?
I have started to check it every time now and have to admit I’m really poor with this.
I have too much hip rotation or they rotate too fast compared to my upper body.
In practicing hip rotation I find myself falling to my left and not towards the target . Especially almost always with driver . Do you have a drill to get my weight towards my target . Thanks . DC
Giles you are the Ken Griffey Jr of golf instruction!
I cannot give you a higher compliment than that! Ty and appreciate you.
Wow, thanks!
It’s my number 1 problem. Thanks for the video.
Glad to help!
Yet another nice one, Giles..!
Thanks,
William
No problem! Glad you liked it
Excellent advice. Totally consistent with that from Shaun and Mike at Athletic Motion Golf who are using thousands of dollars of GEARS equipment to pinpoint the exact movements of amateurs vs pros. Also consistent with teaching of Dr. Kwon, director of the biomechanics lab at Texas Woman’s University. They all show and prove that it is the lead hip that pulls back away from the target line, not the trail hip pushing toward the target line as so many amateurs do. If the trail hip does that, it forces you to come over the top, or if you try to avoid that, to stand up and early extend. So your advice is right on. But not sure I want to practice with some guy grabbing my left cheek and pushing, and my pro says no way Jose!! 🙈🤣
Haha you’ll have to get creative and rig something up. Or ask someone you trust 😂
Giles, I like your KISS comment! I also like your simplified suggestion of the "right leg controls the weight shift and the left leg controls the rotation!" Well Done Giles! I always learn or validate from your lessons!!!
Glad it was helpful!
You explained how to get left and rotate very well. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Instead of a foam roll behind the left leg I use a roll of paper towels. Works in a pinch. Thanks Giles!
Good alternative
Great video Giles. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the top tips you keep putting out 👍 Hip rotation is something I’m working on with my pro although he hasn’t given me any of the top drills that you put on here. Keep up the fantastic teaching 🏌️
Happy to help! Will keep them coming!
Good video Giles. I think of my left leg as I’m hitting against it. Sort of a temporary brake that propels the club in the last, most important part of the downswing…. What’s your thoughts?
Golfers who do that tend to just side bend and don’t get open. Often causes you to get dumped under, low point moves back & can get you into some physical pain too after awhile
Hi Gilles, thanks for this great video, it is something I really have to work on. Can I suggest an other topic? As a beginner and senior golfer I still hit all my irons about the same distance. Is this due to not enough speed? How to improve this?
That is lack of speed, strike & often not launching the ball high enough
For me at least, I think the problem is I cast and swing the arms forward before the turn is able to complete. I’m not sure how to slow the arms down. It seems like missing lag and casting is the crux of the problem, because I’m fully rotated pretty close after impact, but I just can’t get there early enough to beat my hands (without just spinning out).
Arms don’t slow. Biggest lie in golf coaching. Best players in the world have the fast hands and they accelerate them to their peak speed earlier than amateurs
@@Gilesgillgolf well then I just have no idea what I need to do 😭

Can you talk about movement of left knee during downswing? I put pressure into inside of my left foot before starting downswing, and i keep getting stuck and my hip isn't rotating. Then i opened my kneecap towards target to start my downswing, and that led to over the top swing. That also isn't putting enough pressure into my left foot. I do have right posture and backswing. Please help!
Left knee moves as a by product of your foot work. No good golfer is independent working the knee. If you’re opening the knee cap towards the target (or leaving the knee in) you’re putting your leg into an unnatural position and won’t be able to put force through that leg any more
@@Gilesgillgolf if you're putting pressure on inside of your foot, wouldn't it naturally have your knee in?

I have submitted request for your lesson plans but in the last month, despite trying several times do not receive anything - can you help please??
Have you done them via Skillest? That’s the only way you can submit the lesson request. The Skillest link is in the video description
@@Gilesgillgolf No, I have clicked on the "Click here for Free Practise Guide" - takes me to mailchi which in turn requests email. I complete the address and submit but do not receive the Practise Guide.
@@brianlesslie4018 check your junk. I’ve just checked and it’s sent multiple times
@@Gilesgillgolf I have checked my "junk" folder - it is empty. I am using gmail, I did receive one of the lesson plans over a month ago but nothing since
Can you please show me how to swing 3 wood in fair way
Already have videos on that
