    The truck was made to fit between a 1500 and 2500, it doesn't need an exhaust brake. I think the purpose was to be more efficient at towing smaller loads with the option to pull bigger loads with no issues. Just my opinion.

      It needs a trailer weight of 10k and it needed a trailer brake needed a plug inside the bed for trailers and it needs to be in a price range of 50k all day along with a 35 gallon tank and 7 gallon def so almost 600 miles and towing the 6500 lbs you can get 300 miles on a tank

    Got an XD S model. This thing is a beast. Took it hunting in north idaho mountain logging trails last October and it handled it like a champ. You can keep your lumber wagon 3/4 trucks, they ride like a steaming pile. The XD rides like a 1/2 ton, pulls like a 3/4 ton and is super spacious for all my gear and crew. Awesome value! I am really impressed with the V8 turbo diesel and Asin tranny. The brakes are simply awesome at full load coming down a 7% grade! Sianara Chevy, Ford, Ram hello Nissan XD.

    4:25 This is one of the most amazingly well thought out ideas I've ever seen, for a consumer base who doesn't even realize if their high beams are on, if their headlights are on at all. Doug Demuro needs to see this.

    • @Bradamsmx5
      @Bradamsmx5 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the idea of adjustable headlights on trucks. They should all come with this feature as standard. European cars had this as a feature in the late 80's and early 90's with projector beam headlights. No idea why American manufacturers haven't adopted this yet. Even today, brand new Chevy, Ford, Ram, and Toyota trucks will blind you with their low beams when they are towing even a moderate load or have just a couple hundred pounds in the bed. It is insane that the manufacturers don't put more effort into this safety aspect of their trucks.

    Why don't you use the same trailers for all of your tests? You let some trucks tow closed, rectangular trailers with water reservoirs inside while others tow open trailers with a car or ATVS on it. Design of the trailer affects the drag coefficient a lot and on a 10 minute uphill run at 60MP/h it will have a significant effect on the final results

    • @AdamSandLTD
      @AdamSandLTD 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Demetre Gvaramia I actually agree on this one. Standard closed trailers would make a little more sense, while this is more real world, its not consistent.
      As a Nissan Dealer I am excited for this truck to show up. I really feel like Nissan isnt playing all their cards on their first hand. It seems as though they have used components that are more than capable of providing higher payload and towing numbers, and have under-rated the truck for the first year.
      Kind of like how Ram has a 3500 w/ Aisin that tows 30,000 lbs with 850 lb ft of torque. They change NOTHING but some engine tuning when ford goes up a notch, and boom, now it tows 31,500 with 900 lb ft of torque.
      Same tranny, same diff, same engine, same exhaust brake, same frame, brakes....

    I just bought a Titan XD diesel after watching your reviews. Sure the payload and towing capacity is similar to most modern half tons but it is a MUCH MUCH more stable towing platform than a 1/2 ton. Pulling my camper with an F150 in any sort of a cross wind was a little nerve racking resulting in some sway. Went to an F250, much better (obviously) but for a daily driver it was way to thirsty and rough riding. The Titan XD that I have now seems to be the sweet spot. Rides really nice (better than my wife's Rogue in some ways), gets "quasi" reasonable fuel economy empty (I've seen 22 mpg), and is very stable pulling.

    Finally were able to test this XD on the Ike Gauntlet as many truck guys were waiting for. Great Job again to all you guys. The payload is much less than the F150. For a 5/8's ton truck you would think that the payload and towing capacity would be a little higher. I think the only benefit of this truck would be maybe, having a stable platform while towing 11,500 lbs and maybe having the longevity of a diesel. But given its a diesel, maintenance, repair, and upkeep costs will be more than the average 1/2 ton gas truck. For $60,000, many diesel owners may opt to invest in a 3/4 ton with much more capability.

      Decibel meter is an arguable test, because you need different types, for different environments. For example, using a standard ambient noise meter, will be a totally different measurement, for the same sound, going outdoor to indoor. When you measure inside of a vehicle, you want to measure the changes in atmospheric pressure and not the ambient noise itself, for an accurate reading, which is why dbdra doesn't use ambient noise meters and uses sound pressure level meters.

    @The Fast Lane Truck:
    First of all - thanks for all the fun videos.
    I want to note though, that I absolutely don't see the point in a scoring system that comes down to one number. Considering the fact that "good" or "bad", suitable or not depend to a very big extend on the NEEDS of the user, this "one number" doesn't make sense at all. Especially not, since we are talking about very (!) expensive gear. Don't try to make something complex easy, if it simply is NOT. You will fail. If it would be that easy, there would be only be one truck for sale right now.
    Break it down into sections, show what the strong and weak points of the vehicles are, that way, you give the users some orientation what trucks COULD be suitable for their specific needs. If you can make that happen, this would be a great contribution indeed! Thanks! :)

    I will say this. For all the people saying you can get a 2500 (or 250) U.S. version for less money that pulls more, that truck will be a mildly equipped 4X2 version & probably a previous model year if it is a diesel. A well equipped 1500 Chevy Silverado 4X4 with a gas V8 is in the $50k-$60k range. This is a well equipped 1/2 ton HD with a diesel for the same price. So many people say this truck should be in the mid $30k range. Mid $30k is what you will pay for a well equipped Honda Accord with a 4cyl in 2016. I'm assuming none of you have bought a truck since 2005 when my dad paid $40k for his 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 CUMMINS dually at dealer cost. & his truck is mildly equipped & was one of the last 2005's left late in 2006. I urge you all to go look at new trucks & see what works for you. Most of you will be disappointed at what you find. Also, most U.S. based manufactures build their trucks in Mexico or overseas these days. This truck was built in the U.S.

You did a overweight video before with it loaded to 10k pounds with other trucks. I know normally, tests on 3/4 tons are done closer to their max trailer weight, but that doesn't offer a good way to compare it's capability or fuel economy. I'd love to see if a 6.7 gets better or worse fuel economy pulling the same load as that Titan.

    At least one of the Engine Brake aftermarket suppliers is pledging to have a product on the market by this summer for the 5.0L Cummins. That will be about $1,100 upgrade. One of the turbocharger repair shops claimed that they can upgrade the wheel on the compressor. And Banks Power has a video on TH-cam of a prototype air-inlet they have installed on a pre-production model. There is a company that installs gooseneck products that can install an in-bed connection in the wall of the bed for $ 200. In my city, the Titan XD 4x4 Platinum Reserve has a sticker price of $ 64,150. So you are looking at $ 70,000 to get the truck up to par, here in south Texas. I test drove the new Titan XD and it was a pretty great experience. I never had to use the service brakes - just manually downshifted to come to a stop. Its a heavy truck - around 7,000 LBS and that really helps in Alaska for winter traction and when strong crosswinds try to throw you into the other lane. I would like to see Consumer Reports do a long term test. Maybe in 3 years we will know what the reliability is like. The engine and transmission are solid...but will the electronics and all the components prove reliable(?)... as reliable as a Toyota Tundra with a perfect CR reliability history? Gotta wait and see.
    Side Note: The new large disc brakes stop this in 120 feet from 60MPH (that's only 21 feet more than a Cadillac CTS VSport).

    Love your reviews, they're a very fair comparison. Youguys do a great job at leveling the playing field; at least to the best of your abilities... I'd like to see you only review the max-capability trims (ex. the longest wheelbase F150: extended cab 8ft box; has highest tow rating, yet you reviewed a quad cab) although I understand you're limited by whatever you can get your hands on.
    Why is using the brakes a negative? Their sole purpose is to slow and stop the vehicle. The engines main purpose is to accelerate the vehicle, so why ask it to do the brake's job? Unless, of course, it's absolutely necessary, for example: your trailer brakes have begun to overheat and are significantly loosing power, the truck is accelerating and you're on the edge of over heating the truck's brakes. At this moment, engine breaking is required. A good driver would have analyzed the road conditions and downshifted already. In this video you never mentioned brake fade or uncontrolled acceleration, so what's wrong with continuing to use that brake pedal?
    Moreover, brakes are much cheaper and easier to service than engine internals or exhaust brake components. So why put the wear on the engine if the brakes could safely take the wear? My $0.02

    • @jessaphillips2846
      @jessaphillips2846 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you have never towed in the mountains... if you ride your brakes going down a mountain like the Ike gauntlet you won't have any brakes left by the time you get about halfway down the hill, you will literally burn brand new brake pads off the truck. that's why semi trucks and more recently most diesel pickups come with an exhaust brake or "Jake brake".

    • @jjjrickey
      @jjjrickey 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well of course you can't ride the brakes, you need to pulse them so they get a chance to cool off. But the driver in this video never mentioned anything about his brakes getting hot, so why spin the engine if your brakes can take the load just fine. I'm basically questioning the grounds of his complaint about lack of engine braking. I think in this case the truck was right, the thing isn't supposed to do the brakes job, its only supposed to take part of the load off them. You're still required to use the brakes, the guy in this video thinks its a negative that he had to move his foot a few times to maintain speed.
      I'm not just a troll, I do know my way around a pickup truck. All I'm saying is use the brakes first, save the engine if you can. Obviously on a 7-10% grade you're probably going to want to use some engine braking. But a smart driver would be conservative and use the brakes before using the engine, unlike in this video where they'd rather ware the engine instead of using their right foot.

    I am enjoying watching all the new Titan XD videos. I live along the Gulf Coast in a county with 5 million drivers. We need trucks here that use less fuel and are more comfortable to drive while sitting in horrendous traffic jams. Bio-diesel fuel is hard to find here, so that is not a real concern. Many people tow campers, horse-trailers, products for home construction. There is no snow, mountain slopes, or cold weather. Cold-starts is not an issue, but idling in 100 degree weather is an issue. Only reason most of the city folks here buy 4WD as just a status symbol. I am just saying that the Titan XD will sell here. There are lots of Nissan truck fans here and some can afford a new truck. I think this the Titan XD sounds better than the 2015 RAM EcoDiesel. I am curious how long the turbo seal will last before needing a new seal. How hard will it be to replace the drive chain ?? Is it possible to add an engine brake. It sounds like the Holset compressor wheel could be upgraded. I am guessing the tuner hackers will find a tweet to get a few more hp and ft-lbs. But that cost money. I bet the 2017 model advertises higher numbers. Will this transmission last 300,000 miles ?? I want this truck, and would put a slide-in camper in the bed.

I would've bought it and put all my money on the truck BUT I personally think Nissan could've gone full blown Heavy Duty with this XD, I think it will look even better with 8-lug wheels and beefy highway/ all-terrain/ off-road tires. Why I didn't bought it? The 5.6 Endurance was way too late in the party, I always wanted an extended cab but again the model is delayed, it has just too much tech features I don't need for a daily driver (I don't like small vehicles). The Cummins V-8 is unique for this truck that thinks its a 3/4-ton but its a 1/2-ton, BUT not being a towing guy I couldn't justify owning a diesel truck. I don't really if its American built or Mexican built, it's still a truck, you take care of it it'll take care of you.

      Saddest part is - the trailer alone already weighs dam near 7000 lbs. so it couldn't even handle a STUFFED TEDDY BEAR over what's already loaded with those 4wheelers and blocks given the Titan's towing limits😩😵

    I love my RAM 2500 Cummins Cummins diesel engines are amazing I know that the inline Ram engine is an engine you can buy for many trucks generators and all kinds of vehicles this new v8 for Nissan is a Pacific engine for them this engine was brought to dodge first that did not meet the requirements but I love to see Cummins engines in other vehicles you will see this a lot more because no one can build a good diesel engine it's not about power it's about reliability and this new Nissan has got the right idea

    Could you guys take a half ton Silverado 6.2L or Ford EcoBoost 3.5L and do another tow test with 10,000lb?
    So the Titan XD is designed to be in-between a 3/4 ton and a 1/2 ton right? But it only has the capability of a 1/2 while getting the Fuel Economy of a 3/4 Ton. The only way I can see people buying this truck over a 1/2 ton is if it absolutely destroys them by a wide margin on your tow test.
    like how the Cummins 6.7L Ram 2500 took 7 minutes on your Ike Gauntlet but the 6.4L Ram 2500 took 10 minutes towing the same weight but really struggled going up hill (I remember you guys could only hit 35mph going uphill in the gas truck).

      We will be doing more half-ton truck testing.
      The Titan XD is also about comfort, longevity, and durability. The heavy frame and other components should improve longevity when doing work. We know it is comfortable. However, we cannot test for longevity and durability during our short time with the truck.

      +xXBurntBaconXx The reason people will buy it is because they want to show off, it really isn't any better than running a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck down the road as far as economy. The price of the Titan XD is completely ridiculous and you could jump into a 3/4 ton pickup for less.

      +xXBurntBaconXx Price is the deciding factor. There's no reason to buy a Titan XD when it doesn't do anything better than a half-ton does, and it costs more.

      @@wildbill23c You're crazy, I got the 5.0 Cummins with it and it was only 27k brand new!

      LOL you must have missed a few numbers there, you didn't get a Titan for 27k with a cummins, sorry there's no way I'd believe that, especially when the 4.6L V8 is more than that.
