Interior Union and TORUS Land Crabs were definitely more dangerous. It sucks if you don't kill the TORUS one quickly as those balls are far more annoying to kill. The Land Crab could have been a far greater threat if TORUS had gotten a chance to manufacture more of its design.

Tell me about it. The amount of footage i have of me getting owned by these cannons is silly. But it was still good fun and yes i think if they did even the league may have taken them a little more seriously.

Such a simplistic and easy to make design, yet some small upgrades like the Sol Dios cannons make it a powerhouse. Shows how good GA design doctrine is.
I think it’s about time you do this, how about a lore video on May Greenfield?

Everyone's favourite kind and friendly GA support lynx. You'll see her next week as I've already given the lynx lore video to another this week. But yes it will be short as sadly not a lot of lynxs got that much story to dive into.

Warning: very long comment. Read at your own risk.
Nice work on the testing, to show us the weapon damage these Arms Forts do against Nexts. The Land Crabs are one of the Arms Forts that don't get a lot of attention, since they aren't very dramatic, and quite frankly, their allergy to blades makes them barely more dangerous than Normals.
Head canon - the battle against the Sol Dios Land Crabs was definitely meant to get you killed. That's why you're required to destroy the Sol Dios Orbit spheres. In plenty of other missions - Attack on Arteria Ulna is an example - you destroy the key target, and mission accomplished. No need to take down every last enemy. In this case, with the Land Crab disabled, those FREAKISHLY DANGEROUS Sol Dios Orbits PRObably only have enough internal power to last a few minutes or hours. Why not take out the Land Crab and leave? The Orbits will lose power in a few hours and deactivate/crash into the ground. There's no need to risk the lives of Nexts just to take out the Sol Dios Orbits, unless you're trying to get the pilot killed [unless maybe those orbits could spread a LOT of Kojima contamination in the few hours they were active - refer to my Kojima rambling below].
The Land Crabs seem like failed Arms Forts, or maybe prototypes. The basic idea behind the Arms Forts was to create a weapon that would nullify the power of an individual Next. But you can not only take out these Land Crabs, but you can take on two at once! Imagine having to try to take out two Motherwills or two Stigros at once. Hahaha, not gonna happen. The only other Arms Fort that really seems to have little chance against a Next is that flying Omer AF from the mission Defend Megalis.
On the other had, Land Crab might have been nerfed by hardware limitation. Imagine the thing with Giga Base guns and 9 Normals in each bay. Giga Base Land Crab + 36 normals sounds like it'd be a match for most Nexts.
This makes me think about potential unseen Arms Forts. I think the only GA manufactured AFs we see are Land Crab, Giga Base, and Great Wall. Giga Base is called a relic (somehow, even though the pilot who took out Rayleonard is still active), and Land Crab and Great Wall don't have the punch to destroy a Next. Any sensible pilot who took too much damage would be more likely to retreat. But from the opening cutscene, we're told that most Nexts that fight Arms Forts end up dying. That makes me wonder: were there other, scarier Arms Forts the corporations were using against each other, and we, as a mercenary, were mostly tasked with cleaning up the old, ineffective models? Or maybe, did they use formations of AFs against each other in gigantic, destructive battles? Hypothetically, who's to say GA didn't send 3 Land Crabs and 5 Giga Bases to try to take out Spirit Class Arms Forts? [Actually, they were allies, so no, that probably never happened. Now that I think about it, those scatter guns would be really good at taking out the lightly armored flying units that Omer preferred to use. Maybe Land Crab was a hard-counter to Omer's design philosophy?] Consider also Big Box, GA's old HQ, in the mission where you have to take out Malzel (3:53:39 in this video shows the briefing th-cam.com/video/KeZ14fq4R1U/w-d-xo.html ). They have 3 big guns on the building, and 4? other buildings, each with 3 nasty guns and looks like 5 smaller guns. This is a tall building and those guns can't point down. What was Big Box designed to defend against? Answerer? Big Box could take out Eclipses (Omer's other flying Arms Fort) and flying Normals for days. No missile batteries either. Dunno why not. Anyhow, when Malzel takes over Big Box, he doesn't expect to survive against Wynne D Fanchion, so those defenses certainly aren't anti-Next. Motherwill would rip the place a new one, so I'm guessing Big Box predates the Spirit Class of Arms Forts, and I think lore-wise, it was designed to defend agaisnt something we never got to see.
My best guess is our career starts shortly after an even more massive period of strife, where Kojima Arms Forts are running rampant and THAT is what destroyed the environment. A few dozen Nexts using Primal Armor every once in a while probably wouldn't cause pollution so bad it's threatening to make the upper atmosphere toxic. Answerer might actually be from that era. That'd explain why Otsdarva/Thermidor knows about it, and he knows nobody else but the player can take it on. Because many have tried, and they all died. An effort to rein in Kojima contamination might explain why Arms Forts don't have Primal Armor, even though the technology exists to do so. Think of AC4 where that weapon attacks Anatolia through the tunnels. Its Primal Armor makes it invincible until you destroy those 4 bulbs on it. That also explains why you don't see any of those scary Interior Arms Forts! You know, the floaty one in Armored Core 4 that shot missiles at you and had a Kojima cannon? Oh, and! Even the Procyon cannons were decommissioned!
Ok, so I know the video was about the Land Crab Arms Fort, and I'm getting VERY off topic, but the idea of a Kojima ban is something new to me, and sounds really plausible in-universe. How many things in AC:4A use Kojima technology? Sphere, B7 (both contained, and possibly not causing outside contamination), Answerer, the Anti-Satellite cannons, the Arteria facilities (maybe polluting, maybe not), maybe Stigro (Kojima particles might allow its fast boosting and hovering), and Nexts. As far as I recall, GA, BFF, Algebra, Technocrat, Aldra, THE Interior Union (reference to a local university, OSU, that teaches its students to be pricks...) and Rosenthal only use uncontained Kojima tech for Nexts; all other uses being arguably non-polluting. Only Torus and Omer still deploy military weapons that use Kojima Technology. And for all we know, Answerer might have been decomissioned until it was needed against Orca. That puts the ENTIRE timeline into a different light. So we have nations, then the National Dismantlement war, which was won 100% by Kojima technology/Nexts. Kojima is polluting the planet and now the corporations newest weapons have a conspicuous lack of Kojima tech. Heck, some of them are impervious to Next-grade weaponry, and the corporations have all but stopped development of more powerful Next weapons. A different interpretation of all those suicide missions against Arms Forts isn't that they're personally trying to get the player killed. They're trying to test their Arms Forts' capabilities, because they're colleectively trying to abandon Kojima technology, but they need something to ensure some party can't simply go rogue and use Nexts to essentially repeat the National Dismantlement war. The corporations are still making new Nexts and weapons, but stopping development would only cripple them agaisnt other corporations, since mercs like Roy Saaland and Francois Nereis were able to get fully kitted out units, and there are independent groups able to maintain and repair Nexts, Line Ark being the biggest that comes to mind. So they need Arms Forts to make Nexts obsolete before they go cold turkey and stop supporting Nexts. This whole economic war is a fight against Kojima technology, similar to how Vertex declared war against Alliance in Last Raven, but Jack-O's only real goal was to stop the Pulverizer weapons.
An additional piece of supporting info re: people's attitude toward Kojima tech is in the briefing for fighting the Sol Dios AF: armoredcore.fandom.com/wiki/Defeat_Unidentified_AF . Your operator says the creators of the modified AF are "Sick twisted batards... Unleashing those monsters". Her first statement isn't something like "you're going to be in a fight for your life", or something that cites the difficulty; instead, she's disGUSted that the thing was even made. If she's like a lot of people, most people HATE Kojima weapons and what they've done to the environment. The fight against Sol Dios in AC4 was probably particularly devastating to the environment.
Looked at the length of this thing in MS Word - looks like it'd be a 3 1/2 page college essay. Sorry not sorry.

Never be sorry as I m very glad to read all this. It's wonderful to see someone dive deep into ac lore and really get their teeth in. You make some good points and I admit I did have to reach for my tea to get through.
But again this is great. We know as you stated strayed was sent on some suicide missions and to be honest it really is either his skills pass that of being super or him being very lucky that he survives them.
As for the lynx part it does makes you wonder since most flee as strayed consort. But the lore is very much held back by the fact we experience these machines of war through the limits of consoles as I am sure the real arms-forts would be terrifying with more guns, normals and firepower it really would be like one man taking on a Fortress.
I expect most lynx did not return from these fights and what we experience is being this super elite lynx that can do anything they put their mind too.

Oo the lancel is next, that thing head look really similar to last raven mascot AC in the opening and cover. As for the land crab, i kinda wonder why they arent deployed en mass as the smaller mobile fotress, which imo are more effective as single pile bunker wont one punch bonk them.
Speaking of which can you do the mobile fotresses that are smaller than armsfort from ac4 ?
imo while smaller they are more effective especially the omer saucer which i think mix a good balance of laser canon damage and being hard to hit while flying. Plus the fight with them is more challenging i think when supported with a next and normals. A really good case for this is line of defense and defend anti satellite battery.

True this and the giga base are the two most mass produced arms-forts as we see in game apart from the jet (But that got some Orca and Omer working togther going on there) but why do all that when you can steal them. Honestly GA how did an armsfort get stolen.
