This is why I love GA's doctrine and design philosophy of making NEXTs that low AMS LYNX can pilot. Ultimately LYNX are still humans and susceptible to dumb trivial things like fatigue, stress, sickness and death. It doesnt matter when you have the second coming of Berlioz, Strayed, Joshua O'Brien and the Raven put together when they get taken out of the fight because of food poisoning. Even if your larger pool of LYNX suffer casualties, those that survive and gain tremendous combat experience can train new LYNX and so on
I actually clapped when first time i played ACFA, i checked the Collared Ranking and Roadie name is on the top 5 ranking there, from the joke of an Next in AC4 to become a well respected and a freaking baddass pilot in ACFA is just amazing for me and he deserved it
He may be ranked low and described as such but he spanked me harder then any other NEXT in 4 (Red Rum comes close but that's in FA). I have to wonder if that was common with players and his promotion in FA was an acknowledgment of that.
@@InternetHydra i have to thank roadie for the idea of using arm bazookas, they carried my ac4 playthrough until vero nork gave me the idea of using her as missile arms. I was suprised roadie was able to be top 5 in 4A
I always consider Roadie to be a good showcase of the way FS tells their stories. He isn't even a Lynx we would meet in AC4, yet the mere fact he somehow managed to become the top-dog in ACFA is enough to intrigue us to no end about the man and his stories. It's one of the better minimalism storytelling we see out there and it's way before the collective infection, for which the symptom is the incapability of shut-up about Dark Souls.
I'll add that From Software repeat themes in their series. The nobody > champ theme was prevalent between Nexus > Last Raven. Some stayed at the top, Like Jack-O and Crow, while others rose up quite a lot in the rankings and challenge, like Bolt, Omega, and Caspian.
I'll be honest, I did remember that he was in the orginal AC4, but I never realised how high he had climbed in the ranks. Though definitely humble, and knowledgeable. Knowing your limits and fighting within them are definitely not what many lynx were known for.
One of the better Dudes in AC FA world. I think the lack of info on satelite cannon made him a bit more neutral stanced afterwards towards the orca vs league war. The fact He didn't join up with otsdarva, roy and wynne d kinda makes me wonder whats going on as he could've help the league on the Orca ending being one of the last in collard top 5 after lillium and gerald passed but somehow didn't. but he shows up on the destruction path, which imo kinda proof that Collared top 5 club are ussually in touch with each other for major events and further proof that Wynne D could've contacted him than roy but somehow he might have decided not to show up. If his emblem is actually based on himself irl, would hang out with him, as he seems like the anime cool uncle equivalent of Kasumi that will train you like a shonen anime mentor. Plus who better to teach you to climb the rank than the dude that survived all the way from rank 36 to 5.
Roadie is definitely one of the 'good guys' if you can say that. Still its my belief that looking over roadie that his loyalty to GA is what made him stay put and out the battle in the orca ending. As you say he seems to take a more neutral stance on the war so i think if Wynne D did call him the older lynx had an idea about what would happen to her and anyone who joined her. That or he knew his life style of being a corporation lynx would be at risk if he helped Wynne and did not want to lose that.
@@armoredcorelore i think he probably understood a few thing going this far: Don't be a hero, and No matter how good you are Age is going to kill you. He know this better than anyone since he lived long enought to witness the rise and fall White Glint 1st and 2nd, thus he understood that if he intervene he will just be another kill count stencil, but he also understand that even the best pilot fall to their age and corporate interest. And he knows his place, the fact he made it to the top is not because the amount he kills, but the amount of pilot that survived the Lynx War him being one of the few that survived when all the Top Ranker Lynxs clashed with each other. But still him showing up in destruction path is proof he can give a damn when he needs to, where as the Orca Vs League war isn't it.
i will have to say. Roadie in AC4 wasnt a joke of a pilot to fight at all for me as i decided to start at AC4. I tired just bumrushing like i did in the last fights in the arena with no avail as i got stunlocked by his cannons and avoided. That was how it went until i noticed that if i keep circling him i could react intime of his cannon shot by quick boosting in the other direction befor continuing my barrage of attack. Roadie was my first Aha moment in a Armored Core Game of realizing something that was just amazing and satisfying to pull off
And its memories like this that make armored core special. Roadie certainly was quite the wall for a few lynxs and in for answer came out as a real pain in the last mission, but i am happy to read how this encounter made you feel as in know i have felt the same with other lynxs.
Feedback could really sent you to a world of hurt, for start his arms has a huge knockback effect and can stun lock you if you’re not careful, secondly Roadie likes to flank the put his side boost to good use, thirdly he’s a midweight and surprisingly fast for a GA next

I actually bought his model kit and had to paint it cuz it didn't look as matte as it does in-game. I love the design so much! I wish they would remaster these games
I never understood how Roadie jumped up in ranks so fast, when an Original (Ms. Theresia, IIRC) actually fell in rank, especially since he was reported to have such a low AMS aptitude. And how does tuning work? Not sure if it's a sign of AMS aptitude, or was it never explained in game? Also, headcanon: I sometimes wondered what'd happen if there was some type of ultra-low AMS program, similar to New Sunshine, that would fully bridge the link between Normals and Nexts. Imagine having to face off against elite squads of semi-standardized machines or enhanced Normals that were piloted by people who had AMS aptitude just below what it takes to pilot a Next. There was something like that, with the Bharat Squadron from Eqbal, or BFF's Silent Avalanche. I think it would have been more dramatic to have to fight such groups (or receive their aid) in certain missions. It would have fit in with the lore; Irbis Ornstein was in the Bharat Squadron before piloting a Next.
Your pretty much on the money there with Tuning as for Roadies rise to power, call it skill and being able to outlive the better GA pilots. Taking the use of schematics in ac4, a lynx would require a certain amount of frs to be able to even use a next like White Glint. The Lynxs with high AMS basically can be more in tune with thier next parts unlike say roadie who may have struggled to move a next arms smoothly as such give him weapon arm bazookas and he can focus more on the other parts. Oh see now i like that head cannon because as you said we had the Bharat Squad who managed to pump out two lynx Irbis Ornstein and Anil Hassan. Silent Avalanche is said to have repelled almost all attacks so far on them but I think however that the corporations would have gone this route but with more nexts like the sunshine.
I loved this guy. He was my favorite Lynx to work with by far. He also kinda reminds me of the Autobot Ironhide. And the Next's stocky shape and cannon arms definitely resemble Ironhide as well.
As much as Roadie was my nemesis in Occupation of Arteria Carpals, I like his honesty in spite of my felling of the cradles. I wish you were able to take him on more missions besides Destroy Anti-Satellite Batteries, so much wasted potential...
Hey, I was thinking while watching this (and forgive me if this is something you’ve already done, I’ve had kind of a long day on little sleep so I’m a bit spacey) that it would be cool if you did a video on…common AC lore terms. Stuff like Ravens, Lynxes, NEXTs, etc etc. Just to help contextualise and clear up some of the stuff your content is covering for those of us who, while being AC fans in general, may not have played an AC game in quite a while. Just a thought :) As always, great video - I think your editing is getting a lot better, too. Not to say that it was ever bad, but it’s definitely gotten smoother and both clearer and more concise.
Hmm i have never thought about to be honest. But i like the idea =) Might have to chew it over a bit to see how i would like to present it. And thank you but i believe i still have much to learn too.
Had one of those on most AC builds I made, unless it was PVP. I think their best moment was in 'Support the Red Beret Assault', where you escort implicitly suicidal transports through a sprawling GA-held highway network. The enemies were clumped up close enough that 2 Ogoto shots could down groups of 3-5 normals/vehicles.
Dude, your videos are amazing. I really hope the project that FromSoftware is working on really is another addition to the AC series.
